Gustav sucked in a lot of dry air as he was approaching the coast and this is what weakened him. But you are right, there were times there where the winds were howling pretty good! Then again, the difference between Gustav's max winds at the time of land fall, and a low end major hurricane (111 mph) were only about 6 mph. So yes, there really wasn't much of a difference. Glad you enjoyed my video!! Thanks for watching :) I'll be posting a lot more over the coming days/weeks
Incredible video, I love that high wind and severe, dragging everything with power and speed I have never been in a situation like that, outside my body feeling winds over 100km/h. Of course it must be something great, fantastic for a living, you have been brave to go out amid the intense wind to film, in my case I certainly would have done just that and I love severe weather :D.
@supercellstorm Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. Hurricanes are the most intense experiences for me, there's so much going on around you every single second, you have to be 100% focused at all times. The experience is truly incredible.
Thanks for watching :) Experiencing hurricanes and documenting them is so much different than chasing storm in the midwest. You're a lot wetter, lol....and you have to put yourself in the worst of the storm, as opposed to driving around the edge of it like when chasing storms on the plains
Absolutely awesome footage, Scott!!! I had forgot that you guys lost your car window in Gustav! I'm glad you guys were OK, but that must've made for a pretty humid ride back...lol.
Yeah losing the window definitely stunk big time! lol...it wasn't so much the humidity on the way back, it was the deafening roar of the wind rattling the plastic! Oh wow was it LOUD! lol....for a while there both Dave and I were concerned about our hearing. Glad you enjoyed Michael!

Gustav wasn't a major hurricane, but man each video I've seen seen of his of his landfall shows the area FULL of flying debris! Any Idea why?
This is some of the best Gustav Footage I've seen yet, up there with Jim Edds and Brandon Ivey's footage. Awesome work!
