  • You can hear every single word. Karen was pure class. With Richard's lush arrangements they so entertained us and we miss Karen very much...

  • @silverstartrucker yea finally i dont need lyrics

  • amen...

  • god damn better than whitney houston and she was white!!

  • Whose tony peluso?

  • @fas852 He is the guy playing the amazing guitar solo.

  • the best voice l've ever heard ...more than 30 years after her death there's still no one can match her wonderful voice.

  • Karen still has the most striking voice I've ever heard (closely followed by Judith Durham of The Seekers, sorry Judith!) and this is one of her most iconic songs, beautiful.

  • This has been my favourite song since 1972. I like many songs but none make me feel the way this one does. God bless you, Karen.

  • RIP Tony Peluso, Karen C.

  • Hear this thru headphones. It's as if she's come back from the dead, singing in your ear.

  • I'm almost 50 now and still the most beautiful voice i've ever heard

  • A "heavenly choir" with a fuzz guitar-- it SHOULDN'T have worked, but by God it did! Whatever else you might think of Richard Carpenter, with this record if not any others he entered the ranks of classic record producer. Of course, having Karen do the song couldn't hurt!

  • As one who sings and who loves music of various kinds, I recognize Karen's voice as very good and emotionally nuanced. I sort of couldn't see the "voice for the shmaltz" at the time, growing up in the '70s. Now, I truly appreciate her voice, and the music has the sheen of nostalgia.

  • So i guess this officially proves that for every 1233 people, there are 12 morons...well, only in regards to the Carpenters that is.

  • As a huge rock and metal fan, you'd think I hate this song. Actually, it's very good. The melody is incredible and that solo is from the soul...

  • Btw, I remember an excellent history of the Carpenters which came out in the later 1990's... Very well done, with various interviews, and in it Richard speaks of how this song came into existence.

  • This was the ironic 'conclusion' to the the Carpenters long series of hits...Some came after, but this was a nice representative to stand for the rest. A synecdoche, iyw.

  • bittersweet...beautiful one of a kind voice ...

  • Do Crystal Lullaby Too. BSide. Fabulous. Always Fabulous Carpenters.

  • The beauty of her voice, emotion and bird song will never be replaced.

God protect and God Send Karen.

  • Just one of the most beautiful voices ever.

  • Does anyone have the original video to this song? I have seen it before but not on youtube? It was a colorful film. If so please post this!

  • It amazes me how Karen hid such unhappiness and loneliness behind such a beautiful voice, and only when we lost her, we all really start to "listen" xxx God Bless Karen :)

  • @ricocchet she had an angel's voice

  • @sandragail1 I was listening to her since 1970.

since my sister listened to her - so not recently

  • r i p... tony peluso

  • Karen your song speaks to my lonely heart. I hope someday I finally find someone. I'm so lonely. I hurting inside. I hope I'm not saying good bye to love. bless your sweet soul.

  • @rekoonsghjkl Maybe this new year will bring someone very special into your life! You just can never know what will happen from one day to the next! Greg

  • @gburrer thank you :) well I haven't given up yet. just I'm longing so much. bless you take care :)

  • Karen sings the way it is for many people. Sad that was her life too.GOD BLESS RIP

  • great song + awesome bit of guitar playing + karen's voice = superb

  • GOODBYE FOREVER...... GOODBYE MY HEART....

  • Wowww,,,what a great description of this fenomenal interpretation and solo guitar i'm agree in everything,,,so intence...

  • I know how she felt..

  • bless karen. she has all the miracles

  • karen querida.... te extraño mucho, tu voz acaricia...¡¡¡¡

  • A wonderful and beautiful Love song for all of us who lost but did love someone once! Karen Had the voice of an Angel!

  • Tony Peluso's guitar just pure class!.

  • I was six years old when I first heard the Carpenters on the radio, in 1970. I've always liked them, but wouldn't admit it, for fear of being made fun of by the other boys. I'm grown up....now I can admit it. Now I don't care what anyone thinks. They're collaboration had great melody, harmony, and emotion, packed into many songs. I didn't care for that "alien" song, but it was great arrangements and a distinctive voice by Karen that made it memorable and listenable. It's yesterday, once more....

  • @MrChrispy777 I am French.....in 70 i have 14 years.....and first time it's one great émotion....also radio .....it's ok with you.....Carpentres it's SUPER ....bye...

  • @MrLinoventura Bonjour. In 1970 I was 7 years old. I was very emotional when I listened. My friend and I would sing it and cry. Do you like Emerson Lake and Palmer - "C'est La Vie" ? Beautiful. Listen

  • Argumentably the BEST SONG SINCE SGT. PEPPER!!

  • They don't come any better than this. Period.

  • as good as there ever was

  • The solo no doubt gave rock fans the perfect excuse to be listening to the Carpenters

  • Her true life story movie The Karen Carpenter Story (1989) (TV) shown on television a long time ago, I can still remember it. Karen was played by Cynthia Gib, it was very good.

  • So this is what angels sound like when they sing !!!

  • The best voice in pop history. Karen just make it look and sound so easy. What range. Love you karen

  • My tears are flowing..........this is just perfectly beautiful.

  • Cheers to those who's only real friend in the world is Loneliness.

  • @Lynnianaa Yeah! I am in that club too. Though I live with someone, it's like living alone or worse. So I have made my loneliness my best friend. Like we say in Spain: better alone that in bad company. Cheers to you also, my friend!

  • Maybe they were too close.I remember that she couldn't bear richard having a girlfriend.

  • @rrdab1 hey!!!!! think about the other side of the coin when karen became sick thru anorexria peter woz always there for his lil sister peter only carried on coz karen would want him to

  • @whitefoot2009 Peter? - this wasn't the Brady Bunch. Karen's brother is Richard

  • @whitefoot2009 Who the HELLLLL is Peter?????

  • Simple - it's beautiful

    Mikey xx

  • As of today, I gave up looking for someone...

    This is now my song!

  • @eeeeeeclapclap Same here. I'm in my 40s, and women have never wanted to even touch me, so I expect to grow old and die alone. To me, "love", "romance" & such are just B.S....lies. This song sums it up.

  • @lenf67 I'm a member of the club. In my 40s too and have never been in a relationship. Sucks but I'm almost to the point where I don't pine for it anymore. I've accepted that there's no love me for and I just live the best I can. I do ok in other areas of my life but just can't find anyone to share love with.

  • @a32tl that's what happens when lust preceeds love

  • @magovenor Mighty big presumption you're making there magovenor. When did I ever mention that I was wrapped up in lust prior to now? Not only is it a mistaken assumption, it's also insulting.

  • Keep giving it your all RF

  • Don't give up

  • Barbra Striesand said that Karen Carpenter had one of the greatest voice in the world. That says it all. RIP, Karen.

  • @taypar11 karen was pro-american at least

  • oh yeah Karens voice, I agree one of the greatest female voices ever.

  • HOLY SHIT, I was playing air guitar to this at 15 and still doing it at 54, just cannot help myself, awesome sound. And of course what a gorgeous voice she had and harmony with her brother, bless her.

  • How do you not like Karen's voice??

  • Tony Peluso played the solo! Brilliant!

  • timeless.goodbye for now.

  • ...The Carpenters... me traen al RECUERDO... mis !!! Muy gratos TIEMPOS de la Universidad !!!!, alla en mi ciudad del Cusco... en La SAN ANTONIO...

saludos para todos desde el Peru...

  • @carpentersfan2010 hardly.... this was one of the few songs of the Carpenters I like to see redone, remixed..

  • This was one of the hottest guitar solos ever laid down, the beginning at 2:46, it just gives you chills. I wonder who the artist is?

  • @boc234 Tony Peluso played the guitar solo, which was known as the fuzz gutiar, but it is such an amazing solo and as you say sends chills down you. RIP Karen

  • *-*

  • Cest domage..Karen was such a beautiful artist

  • favorite groups in the 1970's were electric light orchestra, queen, elton john band, but for ballads have to include karen carpenter her ballads are outstanding..just a new fan here 40 years too late.

  • @polyestersuits4ever OUI ...i am French ..Karen and Richard fabulous .....great familly ..i like for ever ...

  • if only Karen Carpenter had more 'friends' like John Lennon

maybe things might've been quite different

when asking my mother was there 'ANY AT ALL' pop singers she liked

her reply was 'who's that american girl - you could hear every word she said............

    '

  • My favorite Carp song. RIP Tony Peluso.

  • I never tire of this song or Karen's voice- and the guitar solo,-- eat your heart out Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler.

  • Whatever song she sang, that mournful, melancholy cry in her voice was ever present. Exquisite. This is my song.

  • Goodbye .my love .....you are the best ..Au revoir mon amour ...tu es la meilleur .

  • Love the guitar, it fits the song perfectly, arrangements and the whole thing just embodies the 70s and the great pop music and sound of the time.

  • @reclaimerReclaimer Spot on.

  • Musical purity at its best...full of feeling and yes, pain. God bless you Karen...you were already an angel on the earth!!!

  • @BeckyLMC Beautiful comment Becky,i guess Angels belong in Heaven.

  • Excellent !

  • Just named in Guitar Player Magazine as one of the top guitar solos using a fuzzbox!!!

  • What guitarist is that sounds like thin lizzy!

  • @bungle56 Tony Peluso. This was the first thing he ever did with them, and (as you can imagine) they hired him on permanently after that. He was a record producer after Karen died.

  • This music was blasted in chicago housing years ago. Those voices were great. We couldn't believe it when Karen died. It's hard to compare the perfect voices of Karen and Ella. Both were so, so good. But i still want to sing with both of them if it were possible, but... Introducing this music to my family and friends wasn't hard, they couldn't help but to love the sound.

  • KAREN CARPENTER! Like millions of others worldwide, I simply love Karen Carpenter's voice. It is pure, lovely, and natural and truly unique. Karen was a singer who if she had lived a deservedly longer life might have become "The First Lady of American Song," a title that Ella Fitzgerald was given. In my heart, I think of her as being exactly that despite her shortened life. God Bless You Karen!

  • The fuzzed out guitar solo is the dirtiest rockinest thing since helter skelter. This is rock and roll. Anyone who thinks The Carpenters were not heavy is crazy.

  • karen carpenter - one of the best females singers ever to grace my generation. i hope everyone can remember where you were when you first heard this song.

  • ƫℎવຖ✃ƴດƲ

  • Grande chanson et douceur ......................

  • anyone giving this song thumbs down, just showed their total ignorance as to what it takes to make a great song

  • Classic guitar mixed with the sultry yet mellow voice of Karen Carpenter, this song was pure genius...& beautiful!!!!

  • I Love her voice AND the guitar.........

  • 好きです!カーペンターズ~愛にさようなら"GOODBYE TO LOVE"香燐なカレン、兄さんの曲だったネ!~大袈裟そうなギターソロも悪くない!

  • @blackandtanful ƫℎવຖ✃ƴດƲ

  • As near perfect as it is possible to get.

  • The dominating guitar solo makes this song work for me. Beautiful arrangement, but Richard is a genius for taking the risk of allowing a guitar genius to do his thing. This is one of my favorite pop songs.

  • I dislike the havy metal feel of the song but again I admire the beauty of the voice of Karen.

  • I guess I forgot about recording studios and mixing. Nevermind

  • Boutdonow14 Me too. It's funny because she is either there with her head down or walked off or playing the air guitar during that solo! It is so out of place for the song! Still, I have to listen.

  • This song has the most bizarre guitar solo of it itme. Karen Carpenters beautiful churchlike voice, then wham, here comes the fuzz box!

  • How can anybody dislike this??

  • Such a sad beautiful song

  • From this day love is forgotten

I’ll go on as best I can

  • I would like to put this one out there & roll the Dice for the world to read & see what they think of this idea. I would Love more than anything in the world for Richard Carpenter to get the Carpenter band together (including Herb, & Burt who were a Big part) & do a tribute show for Karen &Tony. Why not one more time, for the good old times. Everyones getting older each & every year, I really believe in my heart that this would be special & Karen could be included on a Big Screen with Pictures

  • #1 woman singer of her time...karen carpenter!

  • Maybe for the same reason that I do not and I repeat: do NOT like the Rolling Stones.....:-) and listen 10 against 830 is not bad at all! I mean 831!

    Greetz fr.NL.

  • Maybe for the same reason that I do not and I repeat: do NOT like the Rolling Stones.....:-) and listen 10 against 830 is not bad at all! I mean 831!

  • Sorry to sound like a broken record, cus I know alot of people say this on videos. But why the hell does this vid have 10 dislikes????

  • Love this song and I miss Karen Carpenter everyday, what a voice ! She will never be forgotten.

  • that's an interesting tidbit you gave there in the description section about the background of this song. I love the carpenters....I may not have been around yet during their time but I still love them.

  • Tony Paluso's solo put the 'Power Ballad' on the map. What a great guitarist. He took the pain in those lyrics and tore your heart out with that guitar lead. Tony Paluso is gone now,he passed away June 5, 2010, but he will live forever in this song. And I think that this may have been the greatest guitar solo of all time...because from the time I first heard it in 1972 to the present, I can't listen to it without feeling a lump in my throat. Good job Tony.

  • Tony also did a great job on Please Mr. Postman

  • great music wow

  • The solo is demonstration that their music is not just elevator music. If you don't like the guitar solo go and listen to Kenny G.

  • Mjollnir1234, ya had to be there. this solo was epic when it came out. unheard of. shocking even.

  • Karen's voice conveyed emotion like no other singer;s voice has, or probably will... Splendid song, Thank you to the one who posted it...

  • This is a haunting song. The emotion could not be captured by any other soul that ever lived other than Karen. Still one of the greatest voices of all time.

  • Beautiful song and a beautiful voice sung by a beautiful person with a sadly tourturned soul. Would be my favorite song of all time if it weren't for the teeth-chattering, unecessary (for a ballad) screeching guitar interludes.

  • 12/8/80 & 2/4/83 were the worst days of my life.

Not even my own death will be as tragic for me as these

  • @myrtlebox what are those dates. is it karen carpenter's death. i am not sure

  • @Mjollnir1234 somebody who has only heard that guitar solo

  • @HuntingForHumans No , maybe not the greatest solo ever , but you had to be there , This was the beginning of the melodic

heavy guitar solo , to do this in a soft rock Carpenters song was Epic, unheard of at the time , they took a slagging on radio for this solo, yet it is one of the tastiest, most melodic solos of all time , it rates , believe me , it rates

  • Before I could choose and buy my music, my folks supplied the tunes, and they had this one cassette, I have to say, my earliest music appreciation, it stands the REAL test of time, and testament about how music can cross over and persevere over time, however, it's volume is a bit overmodulating

  • her voice was divine

  • Interesting anecdote which I heard Karen herself convey; she was in New York City, sitting on a park bench, when someone approached her and only said this before they walked away: "Great voice, love." That someone was John Lennon.

  • @cosg9531 beautiful... love this...

  • @cosg9531 how do we know that to be true? Was Karen being video taped when she said that? Just wondering. She is my all time favorite singer and she meant so much to me and that is an understatement! Her songs represented my life in words. She meant so much to me!

  • Emocionante....até hoje....incrível.

  • That's what I think. Being on your own means you're safe and no-one can ever hurt you again.

    Leighton.

  • She would only be 61 now. Even if she retired this year, what amount of work would nearly another 30 years have given to us? The mind can't even imagine.

  • Plain and simple the greatest female voice God ever created. No one has come close to her since her passing in 1983...

  • @buffalobraves9 I was going to say this, but you already have. She has no equal.

  • @buffalobraves9 Judy Garland's up there too.

  • @thicketford I agree. Its right up there with the end of Torn (natalie imbruigla) and Like a Rock (Bob Seger)

  • One of my favourite guitar solos. So simple, yet so amazing

  • my song right now...ugh!

  • beautiful~

  • my 1st exposure to carpenters was sadly thru the todd haynes movie. hard to forget the images/themes when her beautiful voice pipes up now, it's a struggle!

  • miss Karen so much. What an incredible talent she was. R.I.P Karen. So many love you and always will!
