  • It's amazing how much you can learn of the character's backstory in the theme. What's even more amazing is how well their stories are told and how it feels much longer than the 1 minute 32 seconds.

If only there were more shows like this one on TV today.....

  • @journeysoflifevlogs I'm amazed they cast over a dozen people you probably never see again to play family members just for the opening credits! Network shows don't even do real opening credits anymore, only HBO comes close to putting this much effort into an opening sequence.

  • Where is Mark Baker?

  • @Dfgarcia16 Still acting.

  • I just saw Balki (Bronson)on my kids show Shake it up! i am glad to see they didn't forget about him!Whatever happened to Mark Baker?

  • @Aimee51570 Still acting. Recently on Law & Order, Electric Company, and the movie How Do You Know?

  • @StoogeWatcher Thanks that's good to know!

  • @StoogeWatcher Thanks for the info!

  • This is utopian great. Back when America was the greatest nation on earth. I still love the USA, but most people don't.

  • I miss the show!! It was Awesome!

  • Thumbs up if modern warfare 3 brought you here.

  • Thumbs up if you were brought here by The Simpsons :)

  • When TGIF was still good.

  • Mark Lin-Baker is so molesty looking.

  • SCARING THE LITTLE GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @BiWinningAssKicker You must have been a child then to not know there was serious inflation and double digit interest on home loans, then the Savings and Loan crisis that caused a deep recession and cost the taxpayers over $100 billion dollars, not to mention the worldwide problems of that era. Educate yourself. Foul language is no substitute for thought and knowledge when you get out of school.

  • Delusional nitwit below.

  • Balky has his own YouTube channel: user/probesford.

  • @BiWinningAssKicker

In my opinion, Kenny Rogers said it best in his song "Let's Go Out". "All Good Things Must End"!

  • 0:46, is that guy in the turtleneck Howard from "The Big Bang Theory"?

  • America Or Burst

  • Scaring the little GIRL?!?!

  • Man this song brings back memories of childhood, I wonder if this was filmed in chicago. Wow amazing

  • the three people who disliked this video were stopped

  • thumbs up if "the simpsons (treehouse of horror XV )" brought you here!

  • @bublyification Lol, can't believe i'm not alone on this one. It was driving me mad when i heard it. I was, like, where do i know that theme from? Then it came to me in a majestic flash of brilliance. Childhood memories!!

  • thumbs up if "the simpsons (treehouse of horror XV )" brought you here!

  • As much as I love the 80's and 90's, The veiw of reality they posited was a lie, it is unreasonable to claim that the 80's were perfect.

  • SCARING THE LITTLE GIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRL!!!

  • Too bad Bronson Pinchot was eaten by giant mutated meatballs....

  • I have no problem with people having nostalgia for the past, I myself have occasionally been prone to it, but when it means that you sacrifce the future for the past, well, Langoliers, you get stuck in a world that is dead, rather than one waiting to be born.

  • @ariandynas The world of the 80s and 90s looked more alive than the one we've been living in the last decade.

  • @CombatSportFan Ha. Let's look at the 80's shall we? Rampant drug abuse, crime at all time highs, dropout rate too, the inner cities rotting like the cores of apples, don't give me that bullshit about how much better the past was.

  • @ariandynas Every era is going to have its issues, the problem is not with how well things are or are not today, it's with the overall mood and the general negativity and pessimism in society. Even with all that had gone wrong in the United States going into the 1980s, as the decade went on and into the 90s optimism began to grow and things began to improve across all of the U.S. Right now, things look a lot more like the 70s as far as general mode and feeling in the country.

  • @ariandynas

Let's look at the present, shall we? Rampant drug abuse, crime at all time highs, education system in ruins, inner cities rotting like the cores of apples, almost nothing left of the justice system, massive unemployment, value of the dollar plummeting, crippling overpopulation, cataclysmic global warfare on the horizon, realilty scripted and sold to media congolmerates, horrible TV, horrible movies, horrible music.

At least in the '80's, we had TV, movies, and REAL rock 'n roll.

  • @CDenic Lets look at the past shall we? We see... my god the EXACT same thing! Imagine that!

  • @CDenic A-freakin-MEN to that!!! I was born in 1979 and had the absolute best time growing up in the 80's. Hell, even the 90's were excellent even though I was going through puberty, lol. The new millenium so far has been, for a lack of a better term, F*CKED!! If this decade doesn't show any improvment, hopefully the next one will be a welcome return to everything that great and whole when I was a kid.

  • The people who being nostalgic here, no offense, but you make me sick with that. The world today is no better or worse than it used to be. Our perception has changed, the world is diffrent, it's no longer the world you knew, does that make it worse? To you, yes, to everyone else who didn't experience what you did? No. In 20 years we will be saying the same things about "kids today" and it will be no diffrent. So don't tell me how good things used to be. I'll look to the future thanks.

  • @ariandynas you sound like a typical young asshole kid. Just let us kids that happened to have been grown up in the late 80s and 90s to have nostalgia memories of classic tv that does not compare at all to today's mainstream tv shows. Look to the future all you want. Why do you gotta ruin it for the rest of us?

  • @ComePlayVelouria I'll thank you to know I DID grow up in the late nineties. And for the record, my statement of my opinion does not require you to call me an asshole. I grew up watching Transformers and G.I.Joe and He-Man, guess what? Looking back now, alot of those shows dont measure up like the used to. But if you like "old lady" then i'll leave you to your meanderings in the past where everything was soft edges unable to hurt you. Nostalgia is a lie we tell ourselves to feel better.

  • @ariandynas Calm down man and chill out. You know I somewhat agree with you. Certainly human behavior didn't magically change in the last 15-25 years and go from paradise and brotherhood to a cess pool of evil. No way, all kinds of bad stuff happened in the 80s and 90s as well. In those decades "the adults" then wanted to remember the 50s and 60s and to a lesser extent the 70s. People want to remember the good times of the past, even though we know it really wasn't that much better at all.

  • @ariandynas

Go ahead and look to the future, because in 20 years, this planet will be a smoking wasteland...if we're lucky.

You know what nostalgia REALLY is? Realizing that you have a past worth remembering, because if you don't, your future will be just as empty and miserable. When I look back at where I came from, it reminds me of where I'm going and why I'm going there, even with the end of humanity's reign VERY near. I'm havin' a good time anyway, and anyone with a problem can die.

  • Thumbs up if The Nostalgia Critic and/or "The Langoliers" brought you here.

  • @tvnutboy YUPPPPP!!!!

  • Television is absolutely ridiculous in this day and age. Now it's all about this reality tv nonsense...I mean WHO CARES...? We're living reality! Perfect Strangers was one of my most favourite shows growing up and I'll never forget it.

  • This was the time in which you didn't have to cover your kids ears in order to watch television. I miss those days where you didn't have to curse in order to be "edgy" on television.

  • 80's theme song got to love it

  • Because of this video, we are so happy we do the dance of joy.

  • I miss opening credits that are longer than 5 seconds. One of the saddest developments in TV over the past years: the whittling down or virtual elimination of opening credit sequences in order to squeeze in even more commercials.

  • The 3 thumbs down must really hate the Dance of Joy.

  • I remember this intro from the premiere. They had an abridged version in later episodes.

This is a nice remaster. Better than I remember it when it first aired. Was it this clear when it aired on the O&O's?

  • This was one of the most famous tv series in Bulgaria 10 years ago. I was great fan as a kid and now I am rewatching them. And yes, I feel nostalgic. Very nostalgic actually...

  • indeed

  • This show was almost like the male version of the "Mary Tyler Moore" show. Two people starting over and living their dreams.

  • thumbs up if a dragon transformation vid brought u here xD

  • Thumbs up if The Simpsons brought you here

  • This should have made billboard top 10, no bullshit. Classic and extremely meaningful song. Something you don't get very often anymore. Brings me back to those childhood days.

  • haha the 3 dislikes weren't born then LOL

  • @Dieseldemen no three dislikes are icarly/hanna montana loving fags.

  • @mrprettyricky3000 haha sad isn't it!!

  • @Dieseldemen SAD BUT TRUE!LOL!

  • On 0:31 the on guy leaning on the fence almost looks like Bob Saget from Full House doesn't he?

  • Someone said: the sitcoms of these era made sense unlike the shows of today.... i totally agree! Even the themes songs made sense in my opinion the top 4 theme songs (with Lyrics) of sitcoms those times were 1. Perfect Strangers 2. Punky Brewster 3. Growing Pains 4. Family Ties Instrumental theme songs 1. Cosby Show 2. Benson 3. ALF hahahaha! I just miss the days when these sitcoms were showing, you really had to make time to watch unlike now you can tivo almost any show.
  • I will ALWAYS love this... my family used to get together... and it was our FAMILY QUALITY TIME

  • Another great song from back in the day. Most millenium shows can't compare to this time period. These shows made you feel good about things. You could just unwind at the end of the week. These days you watch shows and they either piss you off or you feel like mankind is just getting worse and worse. What happened? Bring shows like this back.

  • @adel78ify I so totally agree!!!

  • i like this song really it brings feeling of stepping out and being on ur own for the very first time. where u can say finally i'm now on my own. wow!! thanks robby

  • one of my fav show damn i miss the 80's

  • Did you guys here about the Perfect Strangers movie that Paramount is making?

  • *sigh* So much just happened to my brain in one minute. :')

  • 1:02 :)

  • I wish this show lasted as long as Family Matters. it's one of those things where the Spin-off made more seasons. I thought this show was cool and is still one of my favorite shows! maybe they should've made more characters than just focus on Larry, Balky,Jennifer and stuff.....maybe that's why Family Matters lasted as long as they did cause you had a lot of characters!

  • Is that guy supposed to be Cousin Larry's mom?!

  • We're still laughing to death Larry and Balki!

We have a DVD of their.

  • balki played a gay guy on beverly hills cops!

  • seems that the opening of the show has led some persons to think that the show is about gay men who meet each other after each moves to chicago. in truth, the 2 men weren't gay. furthermore, 1 of the men eventually marries a woman, and the other man marries a different woman, and children are produced.

  • THESE WERE THE TIMES WHEN THE WORLD STILL LOVES AMERICA !!!

  • @salmanpakipaki really ?

  • Balki is herding sheeps with SUIT ON??

The people who directed the intro video are seemingly never seen sheep herding in real life. There are many jobs you can do in fancy suit but sadly herding sheeps is not one of them.

Maybe it's ment to be as sterotype of mediterranean country folk.

  • Man, I love this show! It was supposed to take place in Chicago!!! My hometown!

  • i love when bronson pinchot appears with eddie murphy, and he's gay lol

  • Man this song goes great with about anything.

  • Oh man, what a bus ride! From Ney York to Chicago!??

  • what a happy song!!!! makes u feel so good !!

  • My god I remember this show.

  • I miss these kind of series... they have better stories than what most of our current programming are showing...

  • yes i love this song i don't even know what this show is lol

  • love this version of theme from 1:15 on wards.

  • 1980's TV sitcoms were the best. 2000's TV sitcoms only care about skimpy girls and cheap laughs.

  • this just made me vomit blood.

  • I Really like this show. i have some episodies on VHS Tape. Here in Argentina the tv is trash too...If you want good programs you have to watch Public Service TV..there you can watch a tv serie named Vientos de agua...search for it is very good is about people that come to Argentina from Europe...like my grandfathers.....in others channels only models with a lot of plastic in their asses.

  • @jeanmarcARG

i did not know that berlusconi's power even reached to argentina?

so your tv programming is the same rubbish as in italy and spain?

  • @Berialavrenti in Public service TV named here as Canal 7 La television Publica the tv programs are good. In the other channels tv is bad, only asses, models with yellow painted hair, scandals and yanki movies.

  • Whatever happened to Cousin Larry?

  • Borat is a rip off of Balki.

  • LARRY = TED MOSBY!

  • nothing gonna stop me naah~

  • that's my sister in green at :45 haha haven't seen this in years! just posted this on her facebook page. she's gonna love that LOL

  • Remem my childhood

  • I USED TO LOOK FORWARD TO FRIDAYS WHEN THIS DEBUTED ON TGIF, AND I WAS YOUNG WHEN THIS CAME OUT BUT I WATCHED ALL THE RERUNS, REMINDS YOU OF A BETTER TIME, THE WHOLE FAMILY HUDDLING AROUND THE TV, LAUGHING TOGETHER, ACTUALLY BEING TOGETHER, NOONE DOES THAT ANYMORE! WOW IM IN A MIND f#%#$ RIGHT NOW THINKIGN ABOUT THE PAST, MAN WE NEED TO GET BACK TO THAT FOR REAL

  • I agree!! Our family loved watching this and other TGIF shows on Friday evenings!! It was a great way for the family to come together after a long hard week of work and school, and a time to unite as a family with great wholesome family entertainment!! I can't say how awful tv has gotten over the years!! They don't make great wholesome family shows like this anymore!!

  • @MrCallmejoe2121 Calm down, stop shouting.

  • @MrCallmejoe2121 its called christmas and everybody hates it for the all the reasons you want it to return

  • @MrCallmejoe2121 We will get back to that one day. Remember Perfect Strangers and its cousin shows came on the heels of the 1960s and 1970s when pessimism and negativity in our country was at an all time high. Then in the 80s the optimism began to build and exploded in the 1990s creating a much happier much more relaxed and loving society. We will get back there, just have faith and buy the DVDs to tide ya over. =)

  • MEMORIES!!!!!

television today is absolute garbage. Even shows that i enjoy like lost and 24 cannot compare to gems like

Perfect Strangers....they are classics that can be enjoyed by the whole family.

  • yeah, but the good part of television today is that you can actually watch a show about pratically everything you have interest... Action, horror, thriller, comedy, super-heroes, homossexuals, etc.

I mean, back there the shows could be enjoyed by the whole family, and now the tendency is to slip the family: everyone watches whatever they want, one apart from the other.

And I mean it: I love 24, my sister loves The OC, my dad, Lost; and so on. But we never watch TV series together.

  • But the old stuff is still gold. family shows nowadays are on the disney channel which are for tweens....shows in the 80's and 90's were made for both adults and children.

i enjoy today's serialized shows, but the old stuff is just so nostalgic.

  • No arguing on that... Nowadays we have the advantadge of watching whatever you like, but the old stuff could be enjoyed by everyne, keeping the family together...

  • totally agree!

  • @mbanwait02 To be completely honest, this is the 80s version of Two and a Half Men. It's just as cammy. The only good thing is the theme. Trust me I watched it again, and I cringed.

  • My wife (years before she became my wife) & sister used to be close to tears at this opening. I suppose it was the bittersweet "goodbyes" & start of new beginnings. It really can grab you actually.

  • all i can say is "what a fucking show" the best ever!

  • I agree it's a great show. I've watched every episode here on youtube. The only thing I have to say is that towards the end, prob season 7 and 8, the show really went downhill. It seemed to routine, I dunno maybe it's just me. When I started with season 1, I was absolutely hooked. Love this show, most epic theme song ever to.

  • One of my favorite shows.

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Man, do I remember watching this, the dance of joy, all the antics... anyone know if this has come to DVD?

  • yes, season 1 and 2 are in a dvd set available now.

  • dont know man, im trying to find out the same thing. I want the whole box set.

  • Oh boy!this brings back so much memories, where did the time all go!Cousin Balki use 2 crack me up.They don't make them like they use 2.Great show!

  • @zaidx24

it is it is! I think Balki is H-O-T HOT!

  • Watched this on TGIF every Friday night back in the day. Good television shows are not made anymore.

  • amen to that most tv is crap these days.

  • I agree. I loved this when It first came out. Such a shame they dont make comedies like this.

  • Who is the guy in the sunglasses that is too cool for everything? Why did he bother to see Larry off if he was gonna be a d-bag about it?lol

  • Lmao, I always see people saying that's Bob Saget. It's def. not but, he definitely looks like a d-bag.

  • @blkplaguelmc i dont know how much you watched the show but that must be larrys bigger cooler and overall much better at everything big brother...in the show he always cries about how his brother was the most loved by his parents and the most talented of all the kids lol.

  • pretty sure that was a Jeffrey Dahmer cameo.

  • When I was a kid, I used to think Mypos was somewhere in Canada because I always thought Balki rode a ferry on Lake Michigan into Chicago! Hahaha! I rarely saw the extended intro where it shows the Statue of Liberty!

  • So we traded in great shows like this and many others for shows about whores who want to marrry idiots and idiots who want to marry whores? Some say a lot of these shows are cheesy, but you know what I'd rather have these cheesy sitcoms than all these moronic "reality" shows.

  • I love this theme song. ^^

  • there were many great television series during the 1980s. somehow modern series cannot compare to show from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

it makes you feel...nostalgic. really, really nostalgic. makes you wish it was those times again, doesn't it?

by the way, i am 30 years old.

  • @24aaa I totally agree with you. so many great sitcoms from the 80's. today's garbage is all about cheap laughs. I am also the same age as you.

  • @24aaa . . i am only 18 years old and i agree!!!!!!

The only shows i watch are 80's and 90's

Married with children, perfect strangers, fresh prince, etc

Today's shows . . well, you rarely find a good one like two and a half men.

  • @24aaa 80S RULED!!!!! WITH TV & MUSIC!

  • @jvflexx The internet and texting rule now.

  • @CStarz608 Thats too bad, it's creating a bunch of zombies! We had fun in the 70's &80's we rocked & rolled every nite & parties every day! not brainless texting or computers.....feel sorry for this generation..

  • @CStarz608 haha is so true but without the internet we would be able to look back at our memories so quickly...how I miss the nights looking forward to these shows and how sad I was when it ended

  • @24aaa Actually shows today are better overall. You just like them because you were a lot younger ack then and you felt a different range of emotions then.

  • @24aaa Actually shows today are better overall. You just like them because you were a lot younger back then and you felt a different range of emotions then.

  • @MrAtalukdar Really? I'd love to see these mythical shows of which you speak.

  • @24aaa Yes its does your not alone on that feeling one bit that is why i dont have cable i just get the classic dvds and look up the ones that are not on dvd yet on here

  • I love the high fives Larry gets on his way out

  • q super o sea

  • one of the best of 80's TV

  • awsome show!! 80'S rule!!!!

  • Catchy song! I remember this show from way back!

  • One of the best series of all times!
