The Tibetans don't refuse the modern global culture, what they reject is that that "modern global culture" is not, in the end, no modern but rather a dictatorial and imperialist Chinese form of "modern culture"...

That can only be explained by genocide, since even with the population growth restriction in China, in 1964 there were 694 million Chinese and now there are 1340 million Chinese people have doubled, while the Tibetan population has decreased... That means that there was a very serious genocide in Tibet. It may not only have been the Mao's genocide itself, but the final outcome denotes a dramatic situation in Tibet

Compared to other 55 ethnic groups, Tibetans are indeed living in severe conditions...that's why Chinese volunteer to help Tibetans. Thousands of Tibetans escape every year to meet Dalai Lama...they will go back when Dalai Lama is back.

Anything else left for him to do after his reirement? He can teach in Tibet and it'll help Tibet's economy.

@pathfinder756 Though I'm not saying either was good, but Tibet was absolutely terrible before the Maoists, and though they have less rights, the Chinese government has improved on a lot of things that the Tibetan Theocratic government didn't care about, like roads, infrastructure and public non-monastic schools. I'm just saying that it's not as blindly one-sided as people think. You should look up the religious-fueled laws and things that were going on before the Communists took over.

All schools and most TV stations in Tibet still talk in Tibetan, and literacy and poverty were devastating before the Maoists took over. Tibet was a poor, highly illiterate country(well over half of the population couldn't read and non-monks were almost all entirely impoverished) country that was a Feudal Theocracy. The monasteries literally controlled everything on a feudal level.
