It seems to me that Majestic is mostly responsible for the destruction of this boat in the name of corporate greed.
Are there sprinklers on board the vessel? Perhaps that would allow an exemption towards getting SOLAS and USCG approval to allow passenger use under exemption that it is an historic structure.

It like the only tradition still left is at college football games, I hate to see this happen. The same thing happened to the Texas Queen riverboat on lake Ray hubbard. I went on it as a kid and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. But it never had many customers starting in the year 2000 and went bankrupt. It just docked now. I hate to see history be forgotten.

The Delta Queen is one of the few gems of living history in the United States, and the only one to represent the grand times of the Steamboat era. She is irreplaceable - the new boats are NOT the same. To have her closed down due to political shenanigans is a scandal.

Bela, the passengers are actually disembarking from the DQ. I don't have much footage from the MQ, as she hasn't made a lot of stops on the Upper Mississippi in the past few years. My late husband & I took 3 week-long trips on the DQ. She is the most remarkable steamboat ever. I'm originally from Cincinnati & I signed the first petition in 1970 to keep her on the river. I do feel our government should take time for her. They should be taking time to say what do we as Americans need to do to preserve her and allow Americans to live the days of the past. Fred Way, Jr. She has survived the Great Depression, World War II, near bankruptcy, inept owners, uncaring owners but she has been loved by river people through all of this. I come from Glasgow in Scotland where the Delta Queen was built. I think the US is government is crazy for stopping this boat! It's also a tourist attraction as well as boat!
The Save the DELTA QUEEN Campaign recognizes that Inouye and Oberstar are Democrats, but please don't turn this into a partisan issue. If the DELTA QUEEN is granted the exemption, it will be a joint move in Congress between Democrats and Republicans.

The arguments about employment and economic activity should be dropped for obvious reasons. However, a remodel of non combustible materials and upgraded sprinklers and smoke detectors may fly.

She needs to be given an exemption to SOLAS so she can continue in her present role & not become some tourist attraction or hotel tied up to a pier like her sister the Delta King.
You Must forward this to the Dubuque Cuty Council, and the mayor. They are wavering on providing a resolution on behalf of the Queen. Seeing that good portion of this was shot in and around the Key City, maybe when they see it with the City in the background it will hit home!

My wife and I walk by the Delta Queen all the time. She's bolted to the shore and used a hotel now. You can see her in downtown Chattanooga.
