Look at all angles of the hit before generalizing it a head-shot or not. The angle from behind Gonchar looks as though he made little to not contact with the head. The helmet flew off as a result of force from the hit. And for those who say it was an elbow, you must be watching a completely different hit because his elbow never came up until after contact was made.
Watching the video slower, it is clear that the shoulder hits the head and takes the helmet off. How does a shoulder to shoulder result in the helmet coming off - thus the head shot. It seems like an intent to injure as Adam's was quite aware of Alfy's positioning and probably went for it because he could blame Alfy for having his head down. It shouldn't be, we still give majors to players boarding other players who are blamed for having their back to them.
if it was a head-shot that was hard enough to take his helmet off i doubt he would have managed to get straight up to go off the ice and have his shoulder seen to, only way he would hav got off the ice is on a stretcher
ALFIE HAS A SHOULDER INJURY. How does a "head shot" result in a shoulder injury? Adam's hit his shoulder first, but since Alfie dropped his head, Adam's made contact with the head, very little contact, because his SHOULDER took most of the hit. Thus the shoulder injury.

I prefer the video of Matt Carkner punching out Craig Adams later on in the game (3rd period).
Too bad the stupid refs interfered too soon though.

Looks like a cheap shot to me. Adams could have used his body to angle Alfie into the boards and slow his play.
That's the problem in the NHL ..Good Checks vs No Respect

As long as you don't generalize you're cool
