s spreading like this? Half of Life On Mars I didn't understand, the other half I just got and it triggered off distant memories. Avin oops - delicious!
Got to agree, I have seen both versions, and the UK wipes the floor with the US version. And yes I'm british, and slightly biased, but I think the british version was a lot more tightly scripted than the US, and a lot more laughs.
I have been able to find series 1 of this at best buy and it was a very good series I need to get the second series sometime to see the conclusion of it. It cost me like 50 dollars for the first series/season
I was able to get the US version of it for 4 dollars at a closing video rental store.
I guess we were so used to seeing 70's / 80's cop shows from that time.. is part of it.
they are doing a US version of the sweeney at the moment.
Have you notice the reference to food though? Were the sweeney and we haven't had our dinner and Gene Genie having hoops for tea.. haha..ashes to ashes starts tomorrow , BUT I still prefer LOM.. maybe it has something to do the year the thing was set in.. Although they show the UK version of spooks in the US.. a few people REALLY like that.
yer I only saw a trailer for it on the web, I mean to me it just looked like yet another US cop show that we had from the 70's / 80's. there are some clips of it on here and a trailer if memory serves.
I have never seen the british version of Life on Mars is it any good, how long did it last cause it is one of my favorite shows here in th U.S. it takes place in New york city in our version where does it take place in the British version
Ok thank you I am going to try to find it, The only thing hard for me to watch British shows is the slang and different terms that British use from the slang and words that we use in the U.S. I just have a hard time sometimes trying to understand what they are trying to say , But i know that americans speak some of the worst english but i just dont realize it because Im always around it.
well thank you for that I will probably try and watch it because i love the US version so much and I just herd that it got canceled so i will need my fill for life on mars somehow
There is also Ashes To Ashes, same idea and there is still Gene, Ray, and Chris it's different though because it is set in the 80's with a female protationist, called Alex Drake, I would really recomend it!
ok thank you i want to check it out the last episode of Life On Mars (US) just ended and i am going to need to watch something like it if not better because i loved that show
Really wether you prefer it or not depends on your preference of the 70's or 80's because a massive 70's fan will prefer Life On Mars and vice verca for an 80's fan! Also A2A second series is coming on soon in the UK and there has even been rumours of a 3rd series! Plus there's 2 series of our version of LOM with, in my opinion, a slightly better ending, not that im biased or anything as I do LOVE American TV shows, I just didn't warm to that version... If you need anymore info feel free to mail
I would say Ashes isn't as good as LOM.. but maybe more think that way.. they could have EASILY made a 3rd series of LOM, and it'd been still fresh.. maybe one they will revisit it.. what happened to Sam after.. they better hurry up before John Simm gets older.. it wouldn't be so good if it was 10 years later.
never say never.. remember after he was in Doctor who? I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought "sam" .. the master?!?! wtf..hehe... Although we know he carked it from A 2 A.. well they could still do something I guess. Although it'd be funny to see Gene Genie go back to 88 / 89 to the madchester etc. rave scene
It lasted one series or season as you say. It was set in manchester, with a great soundtrack, there is a follow up series called Ashes to Ashes set in '81.
@rampage2019 seriously, the UK original is considerably better... and Gene (Phillip Glennister) much more offensive! hehe The US version is very waterered down!
@rampage2019 Life on Mars is set in Manchester in the early 1970s. It is awesome telly but lots depends on nostalgia. It's a show that rings true with old farts like me who grew up with these people in charge and this music in the background. It's also a good example of what the BBC can do when HBO tells 'em to get their act together and Kudos happens to be around!
i dont know if anyone can help me but season one episode 4 (steven warren episode, sam see's his mum for the first team issue over bent cops e.t.c) when warren is about to be arrested at the club there is a song with a riff that sounds a bit like the jean genie and it has this 'oo ahhhhhhhhh, oo ahhhhhhhh' in the backround then toward the end i remmber it going 'rock faster faster. rock faster faster faster' again and again, if anyone knows it id be grateful for them to let me know. =]
13 fekin ratings! youve got to be jokin! i bought all three seirese, in a 1onna, and loved every single one of um, the best thing ive seen in.......well...eva! cheack your asses guys, my god a cloud just went past!!! really wierd for me due to the fact i live in the desert! no i really do!

The reason LOM ended was because John Simm didn't want to reprise his role, so unfortunately I doubt there will be a series 3... : (
