  • lovely...keep it up :)

  • Exquisite.

  • Great cover, well done.

  • It's all right except one bum note in there

  • something sounds off, I think you're doing it wrong.

  • Wow. lovely job. THIS is why I love Johnny Marr.

  • very very well done - sounds sooo much better on a Rik 330-12 though :)

  • Beautiful....... simply beautiful.

  • SWEET guitar bra........!

  • PERFECTION!!

  • Beautiful.

  • Awesome cover, and that guitar is class, good job man

  • @Lamborghini652 yeah, i love them! i've got a cover on my channel, check it out if you can be bothered haha

  • @Lamborghini652 perhaps! i am for some reason struggling on trying to figure out which part is played where?

  • @Lamborghini652 im 12. :')

  • Really good mate. Keep up the good work.

  • I can't learn this at all aha

  • Classic!!!

  • wow amazing cover. a little bit rushed but still awesome job!

  • You play this very well, sounds great! thanks for sharing :-D

  • I like Marr's work, but not such a fan of Morrissey's melodies, but they both worked really well on this track

  • loved it, really cool

  • Brilliant. Tell me something... ¿standard tunning?

  • @rodhoces2, yes, standard tuning, capo at 2nd fret.

  • That's lovely. Thanks for posting. Nice guitar - looks like an Epi pickguard - what is it?

  • Thanks, it's an Epiphone Broadway. Not a typical "Smiths guitar" by any stretch, but works for me. :)

  • Such a haunting song if you know the story behind it--Marr was showing his genius when he wrote this moving riff. You played it very nicely--thanks for sharing!

  • As always, the best Smiths melody ever. After hearing this clip, though, after many years , I spent lots on a guitar and amp to just to feel the thrill of repeating this riff. Magnificent.

  • ha, totally agree.

  • easily one of the best marr riffs, awesome! well played

  • well done mate sounds amazing! thats probably my favourite rift from JM

just beats reel around the fountain

  • My favorite Johnny Mar guitar riff ever.

Congratulations on the playing. It sounds very good.

  • cheers!

  • do you have tablature?

  • yep, you can d/l the tabs from the "smiths on guitar" site

  • Lovely!

    I'm going to listen again!

  • thats awesome man, been trying to learn this for years and now i reckon youve showed me the parts that were missing, cheers man!

  • thanks! if you need the tabs, you know u can d/l them from "smiths on guitar"

  • It sounds great, but it sounds too cheerful. Not that that's a bad thing, but I think the original is a bit more sombre. Very nice :)

  • Thanks. I think Morrissey's style of singing and especially the lyrics make this song a very somber one (besides, Marr had the tune composed already before he first met Morrissey.) I also play it a little too fast.

  • This is a ibanez?

  • Nope, it's an Epiphone.

  • Fine! Cool guitar)

  • over the moor

    take me to the moor

dig a shallow grave and i'll lay me down

    love your guitar..

do you think you could email me the tabs?

  • Thanks, you can d/l my tabs from the "smiths on guitar" blogsite (google it or search smithsonguitar on youtube). I highly recommed that site to everyone.

  • nice!

  • Makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.

    Marrzipan, I commend you.

  • Fantastic !

  • this is amazing, I keep coming back to it.

    Well done.

  • The Smiths are my all time favourite band....great shout there...a lovely rendition of an early masterpiece...Nice One !

  • Wow that sounds great. Good rendition of a really powerful line.

  • thanks, man!

  • Very very nice. can you send me the tabs please. thanks

  • Thanks, in case I haven't sent u the tabs, pm me with your email.

  • Love this song, nice rendition I forgot how technical it was. Nice work

  • This is very very beautiful, through your own talent you have evoked more sentiments from me of how much of a genius Marr was and that is the highest credit to yourself.

  • Thank you, totally appreciated.

  • Beautiful, Johnny would be proud.

This is a superb Smiths song.

  • Thanks, great compliment.

  • hi great version, could you send me the tab, i kind of know it, but it wasn't a very good tab i learnt.

  • sure, what's the email?

  • really good have you heard Daniel earwicker

  • I'd really like to hear a version of 'The Hand That Rocks the Cradle'... do you know it?

  • Don't know how far you've got since recording this, but for the bass notes on "Leslie Ann..." etc wrap your thumb on to the bass E string.

    Still sounds great!

  • Thanks a lot! Please can you tell me what notes you play there? I can send you my tabs if you want to compare.

  • Thumb 2nd fret on E string > little finger on 4th fret D string > open b string.

Thumb 1st fret E string, little finger 3rd fret D string, ring finger 3rd fret A string, first finger 1st fret B string pulloff to open B string.

Try it and let me know what you think.

  • I see what you mean. The root note at that moment is indeed the G (or F if u play without capo). But I believe Marr does not play the root there (but Rourke does on bass), only the fifth.

  • Absolutely superb, it sounds almost note perfect. Can you please tab it for me as I am desperate to be able play such an amazing song.

  • Thanks, man. I think it is very close. But the hard part to figure out is really the second guitar. :) For the tabs, just send me your email by PM.

  • I love this song! I've been wanting to play this song for so long. You definitly did it justice here. Not many people can play Marr's riffs.

  • Thanks a lot! If you want the tabs, you can send me your email by PM.

  • love the song, you played it very well, love your guitar too haha

  • oh, thanks a lot, almost forgot to say that. :)

  • i love this riff. Nice playing! Thanks a lot!

  • Thank you! :)

  • Could I have a copy of tab please. can't quite see your fingers in parts!

  • Sure, you can PM me with your email address.

  • I think you did do it justice mate. I don't care how it "should" be played or sound for that mater as long as it's good. And that was. :)

  • Thanks, man. I think I can play it better now. :)

  • How the hell did Marr come up with such fantastic guitar riffs?, unmathced to this day imo. Well played and thanks for the upload.

  • Ha, that's exactly what I'm wondering! Thanks for your comment.

  • that was good, nice guitar and sound quality also

  • Thanks to you and everyone else for their kind comments. Much appreciated. Btw, if anyone is interested in the tabs, you can just PM me with your email and I'll send it to you.

  • nice one!

  • Really great!

  • That was cool, smooth! lol!

  • great playing! gotta love the smiths

  • Thanks and agreed. :)

  • Oh God, I thought you were brazillian... don't know why :-) Well, I've said: great ears and I want a tab for this too!

    all the best,

    Eduardo

  • haha, I understand Spanish, so that wasn't too hard to figure out. ;-) Thanks, and I'll send you the tabs. PM me with your email.

  • Muito bom! Quero a tablatura! Essa é uma das minhas favoritas também.

  • My fridge exploded with pickled squirrels once I heard this. Barbed wire teeth & terracotta tantrums wrecked my ginger fidget spoons for the Christmas chicken. Please tease my cheese said the crack attack in his shack. Don't try this at home, kids.

  • excellent haunting tune, nicely done, sounds the same as johnnies.

  • Thanks, man! I hope you enjoy the tabs. This tune is actually quite easy to play once you know which notes to play.

  • thanks , got the tab, just got to get up to speed before it sounds like your playing, tab is good, thanks again.

  • Hello friends! Upon request, I've tabbed this out. So whoever wants to have the tabs, just PM me with your email address.

  • Good job, nice guitar. I play an Epi Emperor Regent, also sounds nice. I'm waiting for someone to try "William, it was Really Nothing" - now, that's one hard song to play.

  • Thanks, man. I agree, Epiphones are nice. :)

  • Great playing. What brand guitar is that, I can not see the headstock?

  • Thanks, man. It's an Epiphone Broadway guitar.

  • Lovely - I was able to sing along, a chorus only my doggies were privy to, fortunately.

    Very nicely done.

  • Thanks. Glad you liked it. :)

  • Wow....nicely done

  • Thanks! :)

  • Too bad marrzipan isn't showing you that there is a capo on the second fret...

  • Jan, you're right, capo at 2nd fret. You can't see it well in the video, but I've noted it in the tabs.

  • hi, can i have a copy of the tab to.

    thanks

    yr

  • Fantastic work, this is one of the most difficult melodies by Marr to play, your version really sounds same as the original :P

  • Thanks, Oscar! I appreciate your compliment. :) I'll try it with a bit more reverb the next time for a more authentic sound (and hopefully with fewer mistakes).

  • very nice indeed. rumour has it this was the first smiths song written on the day Johnny met Morrissey

  • very well done to you :)

  • thanks, you're very kind. :)

  • i love this song

  • "Manchester, so much to answer for."

One of Marr's best melodies. Well played, dude. Finally old Earwicker has some competition! :)

Cheers from Telegraph Hill, San Francisco.

  • Thanks a lot for the compliment. Much appreciated.

  • Beautifully played

  • Thanks, man!

  • Thanks for your comment, tefilobraga! I realize that my version is slightly different from Daniel's. His version seems to incorporate some of the other guitar tracks that you hear on the record. I was concentrating on the main guitar track only.

  • Excellent! you seem to cover some additional subtleties of the melody line relative to the version of danielarwicker.
