Thanks. I think Morrissey's style of singing and especially the lyrics make this song a very somber one (besides, Marr had the tune composed already before he first met Morrissey.) I also play it a little too fast.

Don't know how far you've got since recording this, but for the bass notes on "Leslie Ann..." etc wrap your thumb on to the bass E string.

I see what you mean. The root note at that moment is indeed the G (or F if u play without capo). But I believe Marr does not play the root there (but Rourke does on bass), only the fifth.
