The text of Send the Fire was written by General William Booth, founder of The Salvation Army. He has written a lot of great hymns for The Salvation Army. This is one of my favorites. This tune to Send the Fire was written by Lex Loizides.
Other songs written by William Booth are:
O' Boundless Salvation (sung to the tune My Jesus I Love Thee)
One of the best Lindell has done, but not the best. I like I Need You More; Take A Little Time as much as this but this is one of his all time greats...if only other denominations would realize how much contemporary spirit/soul music can mean to the youth of our decadent U.S. Donn Hoganson
This song is over 100 years old. It is a Methodist song. The Pentecostal church came from Methodists, believe it or not. The Pentecostals took this song with them but I wish to give credit where it is due. The original tune is actually HARDER. Sounded like "Dreams" by Van Hagar. The Methodist "black stocking gang" used to sing it on the streets. This is one anomolous song that I love to hear.
@G4331 this song was writen by william booth whilst yes he was a methodist at first please rember this pretty much what the salvation army is bassed upon and his biggest belief along with taking religon onto the street to the ordinary working ppl something the world is still in dieing need for today over 125yrs later.
