@cutepolish14 There's some comments on other vids that there'll be a London one coming out in MArch 2012, but I'm not quite sure if that's true :/ Would be great if they did though.
I'm totally with Sierra! One of the things I love about LND is that I always get caught up in the beauty of the music and the music itself sometimes moves me to tears.
I hate that I missed it. I love the Phantom and I love Ramin. I'd love to see him reprise the Phantom for the UK Tour in 2012, but I read that 25th was his very last performance as the Phantom. I'd be so sad if that's really true :(
I don't know how the ending to this sequel will go but maybe this can be a trilogy? i personally think this can end on a good note if maybe the phantom falls in love with a new singer who he falls in love with but the singer is blind and the conflict would be the phantom still needs to fill that void of being wanted, needed, loves from within not based on outer beauty. Remember that the phantom wasnt first excepted because of his physically flaws.
The thing I don't like about 'Love Never Dies' is how the Phantom runs a carnival. Why? Why would he willingly choose to run something and endorse 'freak-shows' and the like if it gave him so much pain in the past. It just seems really out of character and rather stupid to me.
I have to admit watching the curtain call brings tears to my eyes, remembering that I was there, one of those people on one of those nights, having the time of my life, crying my eyes out and clapping till I couldn't clap any more as I had lost all feeling in my hands! And then there's the fact I was wooping and cheering at the end so much I had a VERY sore throat the next morning... :D
@kirstylou142 Indeed, Tam Mutu plays the Phantom on those days, Ramins contract was due to end September the 3rd but it's now closing early on the 27th August ;[ It's so unfair, this show is the most amazing, spectacular thing I have ever seen and yet it's closing, whilst other shows that should have ended a long time ago, are still running... xx
Ouch, what a shame that it isn't doing well! Would love to see it, but alas, I too live far away! Nothing can touch the original Phantom, but I love that Love Never Dies shows us what could have been and doesn't end like a fairy tale. There are some beautiful songs from this show that a lot of people will enjoy if they give it a shot.
Ramin isnt doing it anymore. He hasnt be doing in for ages. I'm going on Saturday, second time, had to go and see it again before it closed. This will be the fourth time for my mum. Its a shame all the best ones close, Woman in White was amazing too and that didn't last for long, probably because the tickets are ridiculously overpriced...
@trixiness101 That's strange, Karimloo was definitely there last Saturday, 30/07/11. I don't know where you get your information from, but I'm afraid you might have misunderstood it.
Amazing show! Great performances by all on some very demanding roles... Shame they decided to kill it. Will try to go again before closing night. Hope they come to their senses and let it live or bring it back bigger and brighter during the winter or next year.
@ErikaGiry i dont know, apparently it's picking up again :) im going to see it in august and we got the last two tickets for the wednesday matinee. i think people's curiosity is starting to win over their initial love for the original :)
I love Sierra and Ramin -- but that's the only thing. They act wonderfully and sing with such amazing talent; But ALW kind of killed it because of the way the characters end up. I mean, the Phantom goes from being a haunting, beautiful, insane, murderous, seductive outcast to a rich, young, in love, totally sane Carny. I mean, who goes from writing "Don Juan triumphant" to bathing beauty? I still love the music, its just a little weird...
The Phantom is pining&yearning for Christine so badly that his passion & love for life &music starts to fade so without his muse, has lost his genius, gets 'writers block' & can only write cheap Vaudeville music.
Then once he knows Christine is coming back, he gets inspired again, and writes 'Love Never Dies', this incredible and earth shattering aria, that ignites both their mutual love for musicla and also each other?
@RaindropsAndRooftops he didn't write bathing beauty :) but i totally see what you mean. then again these are just two halves of a really good novel!!
@repboy1 I think the australian one was brilliant! They should use our sets and direction everywhere, I think the original phantom was all the one type of set.
Seen the Australian production. ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE production. The most amazing combination of set, costumes, lighting and overall design I have seen on an Australian stage. Even more than Wicked. Not a massive fan of the show itself bar a few numbers (Til' I Hear You Sing which now opens the show blew me away) but it didn't stop me adoring the production itself.
its sad to know that what a beautiful production this was that ALW did not like it and started over. All that hard work for nothing! It happens--that's the show biz!
I've seen the show, it's absolutely beautiful but you appreciate it so much more once you go away and listen to the soundtrack again. But, one thing that me and my mum disagree on is the legs during the 'Beauty Underneath' scene. I think they are machine automated but my mum thinks they're real but I think the person would have to be anorexic to fit in that box. What do people think? x
HAHAHA! Few weeks and it comes out in Australia. I'm gloating because how often does a new musical hit Australia before it hits Broadway... Can't wait to see it! Apparantly A. L. Webber is slightly tweaking the set and design of the stage in the Aussie production as he wasn't completely happy with the one in West End.
@91music4life more than slightly tweaking the set and design, almost complete re design bar a few key elements - the australian one is entirely an australian design and if successful will be the design that transfers to broadway!
just got back from seeing it and... wow! Nothing like Phantom 1 - this has far much more depth and to be honest we follow Meg shed loads more than anyone would think! This is 3D writing at its best. We came away knowing so much more of the original characters than we could ever have learnt from Phantom 1! We travelled from North West UK to watch and the Adelphi theatre is the place to watch it! Special effects (garphics etc) amazing - the works! I'm going to bed humming the works!
@barnabyfox Actually, Phantom was first popularized with the 1925 silent film starring Lon Chaney and Mary Philbin. Since then, there have been multiple film adaptations and stage versions. The Lloyd Webber version is just one of the more popular versions. But he got the idea for writing Phantom because then girlfriend Sarah Brightman had recently auditioned for another stage production.
But I agree with you that the book only gets recognition in hindsight.
Since when do people HAVE to do what others have done?
Have you ever heard of 'interpretation'? It's sad that there is so many 'phans' out there that revolve their life around POTO and a lot of these moaners write or have written fan fiction that contradicts their whole argument anyway!
Seriously if every writer just wrote the same story over and over again then this would be a very boring World!
Why is it that anything that is a hit just HAS to have a poorly written sequel? It's just unfortunate. Much of the magic of the ending was the ambiguousness, similar to a lot of Phantom's tricks. Showing how the magic trick works ruins the effect.
@MaskedPhantomX yes, he is aware the phantom died in the book. But remember, his plays are only based on the book, not exact replicas. HIs play ended with the phantom disappearing, not necessarily dying.
Love never dies isn't scientifically correct because it was based on another book written by Frederick Forsyth, not Gaston Leroux who was the original author of the Phantom of the Opera, and his ending was THE ending of Phantom of the Opera. It was also written after Gaston Leroux died and after POTO came out, so it's not the correct ending because it's not from the original and true genius and author who wrote POTO. Seriously, Andrew, This wasn't nessersary. NOT CORRECT OR REAL! IGNORE IT!
@lossie101 are you trying to tell people not to see this play just because YOU think it ruins poto? I can understand you don't like it, that's no reason to be rude about it. If you don't agree with it, just ignore it and don't listen or watch it. posting that comment you did on several videos is just going to make people mad. Many sequels are not necessary but they are created anyway. just deal with it and watch videos you like
Even though I haven't seen it yet, I read about the ending and it made me soo sad. Then I listened to the last song and cried. If I am going to go to NYC (if it ever comes to Bway), then the ending better be changed to where Christine doesn't die and it's a happy ending! I'm so glad I listened to the soundtrack! I can see why some people don't like it. Except for the ending, it has some of the best music!
@lilsisasu yeah, i hope they change the ending as well to where its still tragic but not like that. We may be out of luck though, christine's death still happened in the rewrite...
This was totally amazing...just wish I'd been in the stalls, as I was for Phantom, as opposed to the Dress Circle; you definitely feel more 'connected' down there..but the visuals were certainly stunning from DC. There were murmurs at the ending...Phantom Three please (somehow!) :) x
sorry can you tell me where one can find an image of Phantom's distorted scull and face? i liked it when i saw 'love never dies' but it seems impossible to find anything in the internate except some stupid sexy seducer posters ((
@Jamiestest I really like Gerard and Emmy, but I prefer Ramin and Sierra. Either one in a film would be awesome (preferably Ramin & Emmy). The thing I like the best is the music- so as long as they don't change that, I'm happy :-)
@Jamiestest Except for the fact that neither of them really can sing the roles.... She was talented, but too young, and he sounded like he had an Arnold Schwartzeneger accent......
@PartyInTheUK of course you should! seriously... dont hesitate to see it. its a beautiful piece of theatre. lovely story, great sets, and an amazing score. dont listen to all the 'anti love never dies' people who keep complaining about how there should never have been a sequel blah blah. if you like ALW's music, loved phantom, and are interested to see a great show, then go see it :) definitely worth the money. i'm a big phantom of the opera fan, but i still loved love never dies a lot!
@Sam4G0d Agreed!!! GORGEOUS MUSIC!!! ALW's still got it, and the London cast was incredible!!! The book was a little weak, as were the lyrics, but the overall production = spectacular!!!!
katherine jenkins doesn't suit christine AT ALL. She has a dark deep voice and wouldnt be able to approach the notes! Christine has to have a light high voice, you can feel through the music that she is.
Sierra i think is very goood and her voice suits the music :).
The recent rewrite of the book doesn't cure the fatal defects. ALW should stop wasting money on this and just release a decent video of ANY stage production of POTO - poll fans for their favorite Phantom. The movie's disappointing box office and critical reviews should have taught ALW that you don't mess with success. I almost dread thinking of what he's going to do with Wizard of Oz.
Am I the only one who was kinda ticked off at Christine and how she ran off on the Phantom? I mean, she picked Raoul and ditched the Phantom. Meanwhile, Meg worked as a prostitute to fund the Phantom and his Phantasma, but he was too obsessed with Christine to even notice her. No wonder Meg snaps at the end...
Honestly... I don't like Sierra's opera voice. And I am a professional singer, so I can say that. It's an opinion, people need to get over themselves.
You know, everybody, you can quit badmouthing Sierra as Christine...honestly, if they didn't think that she was the best, they wouldn't have picked her...
I think the music's pretty, the cast is excellent, the story is great, and I love that Christine finally ends up with the phantom... I also think it unlikely that Andrew Lloyd Webber is trying to cash in on anything because he's as rich as hell already and could buy and sell all your asses a million times. Why do you feel the need to deride it? I love Phantom of the Opera the book and the movie, I can sing all the songs by heart but I was able to look at LND with an open mind and I like it too
I totally agree. Maybe he did it because dark romance has taken a comeback, and he knew it would sell. it doesnt ring true to the original premise behind the story which was forgiveness and love . And its not like the original book in which the phantom dies of a broken heart. the charm of the original was in the way it ended that Christine's kiss broke the Phantom's core, and he could show love to her in the best possible way by letting her be with the one who she truly loved.
There is no denying that the music is beautiful and that the cast is wonderful...but its just too strange to think of a sequel to Phantom...its almost like its in a class of its own and no matter how good this is, Love Never Dies won't ever touch the original.
saw this on saturday and i travled 6 hours to see it . i have to say i have never seen any thing like it! it was incredibal and the new gustav was amazing! :)
@KarisAshpoleDorgan Who played Gustav when you saw it? I looked at the Cast List on the Love Never Dies site and saw that 6 different boys play the role...
Going to see it this saturday!!!! Sooooooo excited!!! I do have the soundtrack a long time for love never dies, but i can't WAIT to see it come to life!!! Hope the original cast is going to be in it,
I absolutely fell in love with Sierra. Not only does she look like an angel, she also sings like one. I cried like a baby when she sang the final aria, even though I'm not usually very emotional. :* :* :* :*
@AndrewScheve Oh, i don't want to spoil it for others, but all the scenes were fabulous. The actors are top class, and the sets... well i've never seen anything like it. Just look at the promo vids, and photos. But in my mind, Sierra just ruled on the stage. I can just say, that after the final scene there was a very loooong ovation. And you could actually see that she was very emotional as well. Amazing experience.
i am a HUGE fan of phantom of the opera..so i am interested in seeing this but i am kind of afraid to because if it's not what i imagine then i don't want it to ruin my love for the phantom...idk what to think of this.. =\ i hope it's fabulous!!!!!! =D
@LiLPOET143 It is a completely stand alone piece (even though it is the continued story of Phantom.) Think of it as a follow up rather than a sequel. It is absolutely stunning - visually, auditory...it's just immence. Do go and see it if you can, you won't regret it :D
@LiLPOET143 i was of a similar opinion, absolutely loved the original and the alw film version.but believe me this sequel is absolutely brilliant.the more you can hear some of the songs before you go its obviously better.you have to go with an open mind and try not to relate it too much to the original phantom.if you can do that you will love it.me and the mrs are going again tonight, friday, for our second viewing. cant wait. go watch it, im sure you will love it.ramin and sierra are fantastic
@LiLPOET143 I'm a huge Phantom fan, seen it 4 times, and saw Love Never Dies last week - I was no disappointed at all! It was fascinating how the characters had developed and I adored the music and production.
Oblivion - She is wearing 'like' a coat..... I think you'll find she is wearing a coat. You like totally like didn't need the word like in that sentence. You like get what I mean?
I wasn't sure if there was a more proper term for what she is wearing. I said like a coat because it looks like a coat to me but at the same time didn't want the fashion police crawling down my throat telling me it's called something else. So, thank you for the jerky comment. It really brightened my day.
Andrew Lolyd webber said it wasnt supposed to be exactly like the POTO because then he's just kinda making it over again!!! when i saw it i cried soo much!!! it was amazing, there is way more effects, and the humour is less dark than the POTO, you also see different sides to many characters and you would normally think that they dont fit with the first one, but when you really think about it you can really understand their characters. GO ANDREW!!!! :D
I saw the musical in spring and will see it again in november. It is the a masterpiece of Andrew Lloyd Webber and I think it is a perfect sequel! Both are so different though! I am listening to the CD everyday and already look forward to see it again!
saw this with my boyfriend a few nights ago when i was visiting him in london....we managed to get last minute tickets and now whenever we listen to the soundtrack it makes us both nostalgic!! ahhh such an entertaining show, the better if you just let go of the fact that it's a sequel so you don't worry about all the logistical bits
The new musical is very beautiful. Sir Webber did it again! And anyway, where does the first part, Webber is not corrected it. Webber creates wonderful music, and colorful performances with the correct and logical subject in all its musicals.
I respect Webber and its creativity in the history of the theater.
I saw this last week, the plot was ridiculous, i think they completely ruined the story of Erik. But they put on a good performance and Ramin did a very good job.
@TheCamoTurtle sorry to say LND is not even in the states. its the Original Phantom of the Opera thats coming to Hollywood...and btw it got extended two weeks so its from Sept 27th to Oct 31st!!! hehehe.
Ramin reminds me of when he played Chris in Miss Saigon.

Why is it that anything that is a hit just HAS to have a poorly written sequel? It's just unfortunate. Much of the magic of the ending was the ambiguousness, similar to a lot of Phantom's tricks. Showing how the magic trick works ruins the effect.

The music is good but is Webber aware the phantom died in the book?
MaskedPhantomX 1 year ago
@MaskedPhantomX yes, he is aware the phantom died in the book. But remember, his plays are only based on the book, not exact replicas. HIs play ended with the phantom disappearing, not necessarily dying.
kendrarussell 1 year ago
@TheGreatPumpkin79 It's been indefinitely postponed, although there are both Canadian and Austrailian versions opening in the near future.
grnday11700 1 year ago
Love never dies isn't scientifically correct because it was based on another book written by Frederick Forsyth, not Gaston Leroux who was the original author of the Phantom of the Opera, and his ending was THE ending of Phantom of the Opera. It was also written after Gaston Leroux died and after POTO came out, so it's not the correct ending because it's not from the original and true genius and author who wrote POTO. Seriously, Andrew, This wasn't nessersary. NOT CORRECT OR REAL! IGNORE IT!
lossie101 1 year ago
@lossie101 are you trying to tell people not to see this play just because YOU think it ruins poto? I can understand you don't like it, that's no reason to be rude about it. If you don't agree with it, just ignore it and don't listen or watch it. posting that comment you did on several videos is just going to make people mad. Many sequels are not necessary but they are created anyway. just deal with it and watch videos you like

way to ruin Phantom of the opera Andrew Lloyd webber
lossie101 1 year ago
People, please stop ruining the ending. I've already seen it, but it is one of those endings that shouldn't really be talked about.
grnday11700 1 year ago
Even though I haven't seen it yet, I read about the ending and it made me soo sad. Then I listened to the last song and cried. If I am going to go to NYC (if it ever comes to Bway), then the ending better be changed to where Christine doesn't die and it's a happy ending! I'm so glad I listened to the soundtrack! I can see why some people don't like it. Except for the ending, it has some of the best music!
lilsisasu 1 year ago
@lilsisasu yeah, i hope they change the ending as well to where its still tragic but not like that. We may be out of luck though, christine's death still happened in the rewrite...
kendrarussell 1 year ago
This was totally amazing...just wish I'd been in the stalls, as I was for Phantom, as opposed to the Dress Circle; you definitely feel more 'connected' down there..but the visuals were certainly stunning from DC. There were murmurs at the ending...Phantom Three please (somehow!) :) x

@Jamiestest I really like Gerard and Emmy, but I prefer Ramin and Sierra. Either one in a film would be awesome (preferably Ramin & Emmy). The thing I like the best is the music- so as long as they don't change that, I'm happy :-)

@PartyInTheUK of course you should! seriously... dont hesitate to see it. its a beautiful piece of theatre. lovely story, great sets, and an amazing score. dont listen to all the 'anti love never dies' people who keep complaining about how there should never have been a sequel blah blah. if you like ALW's music, loved phantom, and are interested to see a great show, then go see it :) definitely worth the money. i'm a big phantom of the opera fan, but i still loved love never dies a lot!

katherine jenkins doesn't suit christine AT ALL. She has a dark deep voice and wouldnt be able to approach the notes! Christine has to have a light high voice, you can feel through the music that she is.
Sierra i think is very goood and her voice suits the music :).
tessface28 1 year ago

If LND ever goes to the silver screen, I hope to see Hayley Westenra playing Christine...
wincipoet 1 year ago
I think the music's pretty, the cast is excellent, the story is great, and I love that Christine finally ends up with the phantom... I also think it unlikely that Andrew Lloyd Webber is trying to cash in on anything because he's as rich as hell already and could buy and sell all your asses a million times. Why do you feel the need to deride it? I love Phantom of the Opera the book and the movie, I can sing all the songs by heart but I was able to look at LND with an open mind and I like it too
Indubidubly4 1 year ago
@Indubidubly4 I agree completely :)
abbyrocks100 1 year ago
@NicoleHalsey13

Is the mask different??? because it looks shorter and with a blend of the original and the movie mask... and did the phantoms disfigurement change??

There is no denying that the music is beautiful and that the cast is wonderful...but its just too strange to think of a sequel to Phantom...its almost like its in a class of its own and no matter how good this is, Love Never Dies won't ever touch the original.

I absolutely fell in love with Sierra. Not only does she look like an angel, she also sings like one. I cried like a baby when she sang the final aria, even though I'm not usually very emotional. :* :* :* :*

@sheekorah you saw LND! What was the scenes like? what did the final scene look like?
AndrewScheve 1 year ago
@AndrewScheve Oh, i don't want to spoil it for others, but all the scenes were fabulous. The actors are top class, and the sets... well i've never seen anything like it. Just look at the promo vids, and photos. But in my mind, Sierra just ruled on the stage. I can just say, that after the final scene there was a very loooong ovation. And you could actually see that she was very emotional as well. Amazing experience.

@LiLPOET143 It is a completely stand alone piece (even though it is the continued story of Phantom.) Think of it as a follow up rather than a sequel. It is absolutely stunning - visually, auditory...it's just immence. Do go and see it if you can, you won't regret it :D
GottaLoveShowbiz 1 year ago
@LiLPOET143 i was of a similar opinion, absolutely loved the original and the alw film version.but believe me this sequel is absolutely brilliant.the more you can hear some of the songs before you go its obviously better.you have to go with an open mind and try not to relate it too much to the original phantom.if you can do that you will love it.me and the mrs are going again tonight, friday, for our second viewing. cant wait. go watch it, im sure you will love it.ramin and sierra are fantastic

I wasn't sure if there was a more proper term for what she is wearing.

The new musical is very beautiful. Sir Webber did it again! And anyway, where does the first part, Webber is not corrected it. Webber creates wonderful music, and colorful performances with the correct and logical subject in all its musicals.
I respect Webber and its creativity in the history of the theater.
the musical and the "POM" are different works))
