I noticed when you went half way with the volume, the treble dropped off and a much nicer, fuller tone came through because (I am assuming here) the bright capacitor gets by passed as the volume is stepped up.
well, a tube amp sounds best when you can turn it up. But if you don't have a place where you can turn it up, the amp is way too loud. An attenuator helps to get that cranked tone at a lower volume

The chassis is the all the working parts of the amp without the box in which it sits. Basically all the guts mounted to the board.

its like a pedal that you plug between your cab and head or in the fx-loop and it helps you to crank the amp without getting to much volume!!!
