Mitch Mitchell was probably the 1st most influential rock drummer to me as he came on with that classic style. Of course there were others to follow.

Actually, the bass is being played a fair amount (certainly not blindingly fast), but youtubes' flash encoding loses a lot of motion, even at that speed.

The bass pattern here is composed of packets of triplets and these packets appear as a single stroke after the flash encoding (they can be heard in the audio, of course). You can see a little bit of what's happening in the video, though, between 2:00 and 2:14 (frame sync is just right to catch a little more of the motion).

Yup, Neil never plays anything with the original arrangement, that isn't his shtick. He likes to do his own arrangements that "sound plausible". How plausible they are varies, and if you think it sucks don't be afraid to say so (don't be afraid to say you like it either :-)

Experience Hendrix (Jimi's family's company) has released sheet music of Are You Experienced? and Axis: Bold as Love. If you can read sheet, I'd say nab them both. You can find them on Amazon for probably $20-25 each.

Not a bad attempt. Having played this one live a number of times I can tell where improvement needs to be. Sit back and listen closely to the song a few times. Fills are not as frequent. There are a lot of subtile hits Mitch used in making his sound - listen for a snare roll/cymbal crash during the chorus (beat 3 in the first measure).

It's good that you can keep up. Now study to get the song dead on and you'll be an ace.

The fewer people that are in any band or combo, the more you should expect from each musician. You get more fills and ghost notes fro ma drummer in a bebop or piano,bass, drum combo that big band jazz because you don't need a drummer to hold the beat for 20 musicians....

Anyways, mitch mitchell's "bussy-ness" only adds to Jimi's playing.
