Why did not you do this in Chineese, Korean, Arabic, or an african dialect. That were most attrocities happen. Just a thought!
The film 1984 is actually forbidden in the mainland China cause it's so like the Communist system but i still found it in internet and watched it(I'm a Chinese lived in Mainland China) , the whole is in a gray tone and make me feel some depression. It shows how the tyranny system influence people thoroughly and showed it has a possibility to be world wide rooted. The tyranny system is a reflection of human mind which can be trapped in very limited belief which can also be very open and rational.
See - courts afraid of us now and the lawful bank - Amnesty should hook up with the British Constitution group for a few events. Thanks John, you are very much loved and appreciated
He mentions America because it's one of the only "western" countries in the world left with this disgusting, dispicable, out-dated and immoral practice. And he is right to do so.
Why is he moaning about death row without mentioning the people who were murdered raped and brutally violated by the people on death row. American courts don't just run around willy-nilly and execute people. Also, he leaves out the fact that just about every fact he states takes place in Africa or other 3rd world nations. I guess it would not be politically wise to mention that fact -- better to make it vaguely sound like this is something westerners do as a matter of daily life -- stupid,
Glaringly absent from all the remarks on this video clip...is any empathy for the victims of murderers who've been sentenced to death, for it...those who have been murdered, by those murderers we are hereby supposed to feel sorry for...countless, innocent men, women and children for whom apparently no tears are shed. I cannot feel remorse for those who've taken innocent life and now themselves face death for it.
@ericallen1000 murder for murder is revenge not justice, and vengeance shouldn't be part of any legal system. Just because of a murder is legally sanctioned doesn't make it right. It's not justice. If killing for killing is justice then why don't rapists get raped? Or drug dealers forced to become addicted to heroin? Life in prison is a punishment, and life should mean life. No one but God has the right to take a life.
@mogwai605 You are automatically calling the death penalty 'murder' when it is certainly NOT always such. All murder is killing, but not all killing is murder...there is justifiable homicide, self-defense, wartime (and yes, some wars are justified), and the death penalty for those who've taken a life, themselves. That is not murder itself, nor is it 'vengeance'; rather, it is justice. Life in prison does NOT, has NOT and will NOT compensate for the life that person has taken.
Great message, Amnety International, but there is one big issue I have with this video. You described the rights of human beings as "inalienable rights". You meant to say "unalienable". Inalienable rights can be taken away, unalienable rights cannot.

@Rachulie So you're saying that murderers, rapist, war crime criminals made a mistake? There was a guy, not long ago, who raped and killed a 13 year old girl. He killed her by putting a napkin in her mouth so she wouldn't make a sound while he was raping her. Poor girl died of suffocation during the ''process''. You want to tell me that that guy made a mistake?! I'm only sorry I wasn't there in that moment with a gun or a knife or ANYTHING... I wouldn't made a mistake, I assure you.
@ooberfantastic1 so u think it's ok to kill people who kill people? the death penalty makes those poor people who simply made a mistake suffer! they have to sit there knowing they will die or even if they have life in prison they have tho sit there knowing their life isnt in their hands. it's not right! they shouldnt suffer because they made a mistake!
@Rachulie you dont understand do you? thats why you're naive. people who are on death row are there because it wasnt 'a mistake' as you so stupidly put it. they have deliberately taken the life of another person. are you fucking dumb?!

You're probably a murderer, or just a sap that likes to protest against something that is designed for retards like you to not get involved with. And besides, if you are involved enough in such a heinous crime to be sentenced with the death penalty, then it is justly deserved. End of story.
Every year, 8 million and 16 billion units of ammunition are produced, more than two new bullets for every human on the planet; enough to kill us all, twice over [with good aim].

@iamv99 there is a difference between 'killing' a fully grown human being who has family friends and a life, than killing an unborn fetus that is dependant on the mother. I'm not in favour of late term abortion, I think that 16 weeks should be the limit, but in cases or rape, incest or when there is a danger to the mother it's unfair to say she cannot have an abortion. There is a huge difference between that and capital punishment.
script writer/s make a very common grammatical error. It should be '' one in three women IS beaten', not 'ARE.' You can check this easily by inverting the sentence: ''Out of every three women ONE IS beaten''.The subject of the sentence is singular ( one woman) so the verb must also be singular. Not even Mr Hurt picked it up. That aside, and much more importantly- it's an eloquent plea for compassion and humanity
@paulybarr I actually think that it sounds better with ARE although incorrect. ARE gives it more impact somehow since it's plural and that might actually be the case since every 3 in the whole female population is more then 1 :p
I'm uncomfortable with my belief that the death penalty is wrong when everyone who is against the death penalty promotes killing unborn babies. Most who believe late term abortion is okay also believe the death penalty is wrong. Why can't see they see the hypocrisy or even the dead-end thinking in taking such opposing positions on these issues. Some completely reverse position on these two issues. That may be nearly as bad except for the numbers; forty million abortions to each execution.
I'm so pleased to see that such a powerful person is using what they have for the good. If more celebrities did this then maybe more people would start to think. What a great man he is.
he keeps playing 1984 over and over again... first as winston, then in v for vendetta, he was a "big brother"-like character (brutal dictator), and here he looks more like emmanuel goldstein, preaching obvious truths while the outer party drones try to scream him out. ='/
Self defense IS a fundamental human right. If more of those women had more access to those guns and bullets being produced, fewer of them would be raped, beaten, and otherwise abused.
I don't want a Gun to defend myself just because I am vunerable. I'm glad I live in a country with very tight gun-control and NO handguns allowed!
I can avoid being abused without a gun, I'm lucky enough to live in a country where it is not acceptable in law or culture to beat me into submission, but even if I didn't, I don't think owning a gun would make me any safer. It would just mean I'd be more likely to want to shoot someone!
I'm sure that John is sincere in his concern about the issues he raises in the video, however, I can't help thinking that there is a touch of hypocrisy in his sentiments when judged against his 'Who do you think you are' performance.
He seemed to be extremely keen to find a link to the Marquees of Sligo in his background. That's fine, except when you realise how the Marquees, and all the Anglo-Irish titled 'landowners' (I use the term loosely) obtained their lands and titles.
Land all land in every country of the world is gained by somebody taking off of somebody else without exception.Titles or money titles exist in every country in the world without exception. But considering you have looked at zero channels and you set up the account just to post shit who really cares what you think.
That may be so. However I would wish to distance myself from someone who made such gains following the genocidal maniacal activities of Oliver Cromwell, not, fervently wish to be linked to them.
I know two women who have been raped, & a friend who used to come banging on my door when her partner was drunk & violent. A man(stranger) even tried to rape me in borad daylight last year until I got the hammer off him and yelled for help. He's awaiting a sentance atm.
The "Feminist propoganda" argument can be valid, because they always sound so bloomin' dramatic, but in my short (happy, untraumatised) 26 years of life I can say Yes, I DO know women who have been beaten and raped.
I never said it never happens, sadly it does. Men, women and children are abused daily. What makes me pissed off is that they smear me with other men's crimes. You would not accept this if it was concerning blacks or hispanics. Would you?
so does this mean we stop dictators and terrorists first then work things out or just sit around and whine on how its all America's fault and be more like the great utopia of China, cuba, iran, venezuela and all those pro-human right countries....oh wait
"Let's all hold hands and sing "Kumbaya"! Oh, if we could just LOVE people enough and make sure everyone has food & clothes & respect...there would BE no crime/war! If we just have enuf group therapy and group hugs, all the pedophiles will cease their perversions and live normally! If we could just CARE enuf, the murderers on death rows could go free!" Um..sorry- it doesn't work that way. Some people are just EVIL. Nothing will change that, no matter how hard we wish or how much we spend...
Perhaps, but all that is needed for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. By saying that we should stop attempting to improve ourselves is almost as dangerous (and perhaps evil) as any other crime against humanity.
@DiaMentor087 Alright then, let's execute everyone! Capital punishment, zero tolerence! Even if they turn out innocent after further enquiry, just shrug our shoulders and say "Well at least bad people are dying too". And let's not bother trying to find out WHY some people are 'just EVIL', such as problems which can be cured by therapy and guidance, no, screw it, kill all the bastards, slaughter them for the greater good. Plus, everyone loves watching people die!
So basically, we need to eradicate Islam and the world will be a better place. Not that we didn't already know that, but be careful that you don't get burned at the stake for hate speech...
Ok I'm not so inhuman as to condone evil that happens everywhere, but on the other hand, would Mr Hurt like to have his ''Hood'' overrun with refugees, in leafy Hampstead, Kensington or wherever it is that he lives ??
What an idealist, I used to be just like that. Except then came a life-saver called REALITY and opened my mind. Amnesty International, the UN, the League of Nations, NGO's, charities. All fantasies designed to make western citizens feel good and civilised. All lies and useless efforts to make us believe in Utopia. We claim execution is uncivilized, yet, since whe has the human being been civilized in nature? Why do we donate money to charities, when we see it doesn't make a difference?
Most of western society is of the pocketbook, NOT of the mind.
People work, save and frankly slave for THINGS in western society. For the rest of us, they are the economic engines willing to give all for material goods. The non-materialists benefit to the extend that technology is driven forward this way in a capitalist economy.
But sadly, those who reap do so only for their selfish gain and not the benefit around them.
@TheDamienZone "1 in 3 women -- yeah in Africa and in Islamic countries." I doubt the figure would be that high even there. This is feminist propaganda using expanded definitions of abuse and rape.
You can claim that these were historical crimes and that the world condemns them, but that's not true. Listen to the statistics that Mr. Hurt mentions, it is clear that in many places this kind of behaviour is the norm, no matter what lip-service that society may pay at the UN, it still does not recognise rights that a human being may automatically possess. We in the West accept such a concept, but that is our Western perspective, which we are trying to spread, it is not universally accepted.
There is nothing inalienable about human "rights", however wonderful this concept sounds, and I agree it does, the truth is that, like any other privileges, these are given to us by the society and government within which we live. Did these rights truly exist at any other stage in history? Do they truly exist in places such as China, Russia, Burma, North Korea and dozens of other places?
What rights did Jews, and other victims, have during the Holoca

In a land of myth and a time of magic...
The destiny of a great kingdom rests on the shoulders of a young boy...
His name; Merlin!..
This guy is a good dragon and narrator in general :D..

There is a huge difference between that and capital punishment.

and John you forgot to say " Death to the new world order!"
moh1612 10 months ago
script writer/s make a very common grammatical error. It should be '' one in three women IS beaten', not 'ARE.' You can check this easily by inverting the sentence: ''Out of every three women ONE IS beaten''.The subject of the sentence is singular ( one woman) so the verb must also be singular. Not even Mr Hurt picked it up. That aside, and much more importantly- it's an eloquent plea for compassion and humanity
paulybarr 10 months ago
@paulybarr I actually think that it sounds better with ARE although incorrect. ARE gives it more impact somehow since it's plural and that might actually be the case since every 3 in the whole female population is more then 1 :p

John Hurt was also the guy in Alien (1979) who had the Alien burst out of his chest on the table.

Self defense IS a fundamental human right. If more of those women had more access to those guns and bullets being produced, fewer of them would be raped, beaten, and otherwise abused.
s30305 1 year ago
@s30305

TheoWolfe98 1 year ago
@TheoWolfe98
Land all land in every country of the world is gained by somebody taking off of somebody else without exception.Titles or money titles exist in every country in the world without exception. But considering you have looked at zero channels and you set up the account just to post shit who really cares what you think.

NaneaAigee 11 months ago
@NaneaAigee
This is not a myth nor does feminism have anything to do with the comment I made.
AmyFire08 11 months ago
@NaneaAigee
I know two women who have been raped, & a friend who used to come banging on my door when her partner was drunk & violent. A man(stranger) even tried to rape me in borad daylight last year until I got the hammer off him and yelled for help. He's awaiting a sentance atm.
The "Feminist propoganda" argument can be valid, because they always sound so bloomin' dramatic, but in my short (happy, untraumatised) 26 years of life I can say Yes, I DO know women who have been beaten and raped.
loquatiousbadger 11 months ago

I never said that it never happens. Sadly it does. Men, women and children are abused daily. What makes me pissed off is that one sex (femininsts).

I never said it never happens, sadly it does. Men, women and children are abused daily. What makes me pissed off is that they smear me with other men's crimes. You would not accept this if it was concerning blacks or hispanics. Would you?

If we just have enuf group therapy and group hugs, all the pedophiles will cease their perversions and live normally! If we could just CARE enuf, the murderers on death rows could go free!" Um..sorry- it doesn't work that way. Some people are just EVIL. Nothing will change that, no matter how hard we wish or how much we spend...

@DiaMentor087
Perhaps, but all that is needed for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. By saying that we should stop attempting to improve ourselves is almost as dangerous (and perhaps evil) as any other crime against humanity.
AndrewKulcsar 1 year ago
@DiaMentor087 Alright then, let's execute everyone! Capital punishment, zero tolerence! Even if they turn out innocent after further enquiry, just shrug our shoulders and say "Well at least bad people are dying too". And let's not bother trying to find out WHY some people are 'just EVIL', such as problems which can be cured by therapy and guidance, no, screw it, kill all the bastards, slaughter them for the greater good. Plus, everyone loves watching people die!

Why do we donate money to charities, when we see it doesn't make a difference?
olvoro11 1 year ago
Most of western society is of the pocketbook, NOT of the mind.
People work, save and frankly slave for THINGS in western society. For the rest of us, they are the economic engines willing to give all for material goods. The non-materialists benefit to the extend that technology is driven forward this way in a capitalist economy.
But sadly, those who reap do so only for their selfish gain and not the benefit around them.
Many people could make a difference will not.

Doctor699 1 year ago 2
You can claim that these were historical crimes and that the world condemns them, but that's not true. Listen to the statistics that Mr. Hurt mentions, it is clear that in many places this kind of behaviour is the norm, no matter what lip-service that society may pay at the UN, it still does not recognise rights that a human being may automatically possess. We in the West accept such a concept, but that is our Western perspective, which we are trying to spread, it is not universally accepted.
bohun28 1 year ago
There is nothing inalienable about human "rights", however wonderful this concept sounds, and I agree it does, the truth is that, like any other privileges, these are given to us by the society and government within which we live. Did these rights truly exist at any other stage in history? Do they truly exist in places such as China, Russia, Burma, North Korea and dozens of other places?
What rights did Jews, and other victims, have during the Holoca
