The bottom line is this TF the movie did not do well because prime died and small children left the movies crying and parents did not like to see their kids cry. All the death of the old autobots was Hasbro's way of bring in new autobots for the 1986 toy season. The 3rd season of TF was canceled bc sunbow canceled the series
My complaint would be WHY and HOW the characters were killed off. I think they were killed off so that a bunch of new toys could be marketed and sold. Also, the way they were killed off blew. In the series, Optimus Prime took several direct hits from Megatrons should cannon, but in the movie anyone who gets shot with a blaster immediately dies. I didn't like how they got slaughtered and you felt like no one was left except for the new Autobots and the dinobots.
I proudly admit that I felt every blow Optimus Prime suffered at Megatron's hands and that I cried when he died. I don't care if he's only a cartoon character; for a kid, he was a real hero you could look up to.
A lot of the characters were planned to have a scene but were later edited out. Eg, Dirge was suppose to grab Prime from the back after Megatron says "why throw away your life so recklessly", Prime grab Dirge and throw him to the ground head first. That is why Prime looked like he was getting up when he said "That's a question you should ask yourself Megatron". Also, Red Alert, Tracks, Sideswipe was suppose to have a scene with Ultra Magnus attacking Devastator.
Comments the last of the old has shown us a true self reliant of being all as one. Transformers the old will never be forgotten due to its originality & productive lines of all the characters. I give this song a thumbs way up with my lighter in the air burning to remember better times & days.
first optimus runs over ramjet and shrapnel then he scares the bejeezus out of blitzwing, then he does this awesome transformation with fire coming out his abs. then, he shoots them while doing that, after that he shoots them again! after landing. (just to make sure they are dead )

Execution style was never Optimus's way. Let's be honest, what made Optimus one of the era's most loved animated character's was, He's sense or morals, he's loyalty, wisdom. And yet none of that made him "physicaly weak", Was he's greatest 'strength" yet also he's greatest "weakness", but he was still never "weak" because of it.

Stan Bush's song in this awesome movie was the best soundtrack for its kind...so awesome and so honoured to have been able to watch it when I was a kid...now I have its DVD which included the making of and voice cast interviews...awesome stuff! Yeah, Hot Rodd was an idiot for not listening to Cupp when he said stay outa it. But Optimus is awesome and he is legend nomatter what!

Bay's Transformers is... decent, but nothing compares to G1 Transformers. When it comes to Rodimus, I don't see how anyone can really complain. Sure he was no Optimus, but even Optimus gave his approval with the line "Arise, Rodimus Prime." He passed the torch onto Hot Rod then because at the time of Optimus' death Hot Rod wasn't ready for leadership.
Well, he destroyed Unicron, saved Cybertron and embraced his destiny as Autobot leader. Now, he was no Optimus, that I know. But his character never got to develop during the 3rd season. In the Japanese series Rodimus is still the leader, but he leaves charge to Magnus and the Headmasters.

Even if Hot Rod didn't pull the trigger, he felt guilty, he felt that he caused Optimus Prime's death, and it's that guilt that triggered his "growth" throughout the rest of the movie and enabled him to become "The Chosen One.'
True. Also, Hot Rod takes on the persona of "Prime" as Rodimus (note the trailer he hauls behind him, as Optimus did). The way I see it, Optimus isn't really dead or gone. Optimus Prime told us (all of us) not to grieve, because he lives on in the Matrix through Rodimus (in all of us).
You're right. We must also remember that Optimus wasn't always "Prime". He was a simple dock worker named Orion Pax before he was attacked by Megatron. Hot Rod was just a kid, but he had fire in his heart; he wanted to help Prime, but Megatron (like the punk-bitch he is) used Hot Rod as a shield.
You are totally right that lame ass Hot Rod killed Optimus Prime and I loathed Hot Rod from then until today because of it. Optimus had Megatron beat and was about to finish him when the gay twirp Hot Rod got in the way. Normally, I ignore idiotic flaming trolls like animefan and I will ignore this flaming troll in the future, but this comment was so dumb and poorly written that it needs ridicule. Yes, I know Transformers is a television show with writers that was run by a toy company (apparently this was a shock to you at some point). That fact does not change that Hot Rod was a lame ass, gay, character and that the direction the movie and the series went with him as the lead role stunk and killed the show.
I do not think that Hot Rod was that bad.. I just think that no character could step in to the spot that Prime left. To this day I still have not cared about a character lol. Who could have could that have put in that role and had people care about them.
Yes, Hot Rod was that bad and the television ratings and toy sales falling off a cliff show that. No character should replace Optimus Prime because Prime was an iconic hero that carried the franchise. If they were going with a new lame character to replace Prime, then an Ultr Magnus voiced by Robert Stack or Springer (who had a cool line about having better things to do tonight than die) would have been better choices than Hot Rod. Ironhide could have replaced Optimus, but he was killed too.
Ironhide was to be honest, the only possible replacement for prime.
not to get too caught up in it, but sure he was always a little too gun'ho. But at least he made choices when he was presented with them. Rather then, "prime could of done better", "what do I do!?", "but prime you said."
Ironhide was gung ho (Cliffjumper and Braun were more gung ho and irrational), but he was a warrior fighting a war, so I want him like that as leader. Ultra Magnus, who Prime actually chose to lead, was a good choice because you could just tell he was a combat veteran who knew his stuff. Wheeljack could have been a good leader, but they wasted him when they killed all the good Autobots. GI Joe had a far stronger leadership structure with more quality leaders than the Autobots had as a whole.
Optimus/Hot rod was simply extremely poor marketing, Prime was one of the most loved chartoon characters.
I could go further into it but yeah. rodimus prime, always had issues with he's emo self questioning. Was set from the very start they might bring prime back.
Hot / Rod / Rodimus Prime is all the same to me and a matter of semantics with them changing his name. Even as a toy Hot Rod / Rodimus was really ugly and lame compared to the fun original Transformers. I never bought the whole "pull the Matrix apart and it automatically makes you a genius and a bad ass" story line they did. Bringing Optimus back was a last second stunt the series did to try out of the blue to reset the story lines, but it did not work because the audience was long gone.
It makes sense if you understand the matrix, which most people didn't, effectivly it was a repository for all the "sparks" aka the souls, of the primes that came before him...however Joeybsmooth does have a point, they shuold have not had him be the reason prime was dead
Yes, I know all the bull crap about the Matrix and technically it is the repository of the wisdom of the Autobot leaders because they did not want a whole religious controversy about souls. The Matrix is still a cheap plot device invented by lazy writers who trapped themselves in corners. The Matrix is a third rate rip off of the sword in the stone from Arthurian legend. We can not cure the disease, find a leader, or kill the monster, then just yank the Matrix and every thing is okay (barf).
Oh don't get me wrong the whole sparks thing rubbed me the wrong way too, but it does explain hotrod going from dumbass to badass in a quick transformation scene. Never should have been coupled up with "it also destroys evil that we can't"...leave it as a database...

Yes, but it had to hit. And Starscream was not real the best shooter if I remember right. ;) I found Galvatron mightier. He transformed himself into a cannon

When prime first apears on the scene, and runs down to save the day is one of the greatest heroic scenes ever, in eother live action or animated.

It doesnt matter what hotrod did Optimus would never finish megatron he was to forgiving and soft hearted. Starscream should of finished megatron without the other decepticons seeing!!!

That is true. Optimus had his chance, but he hesitated. Taking a life always seemed to mean allot to Prime.
Execution style was never Optimus's way. Let's be honest, what made Optimus one of the era's most loved animated character's was, He's sense or morals, he's loyalty, wisdom. And yet none of that made him "physicaly weak", Was he's greatest 'strength" yet also he's greatest "weakness", but he was still never "weak" because of it.

Stan Bush's song in this awesome movie was the best soundtrack for its kind...so awesome and so honoured to have been able to watch it when I was a kid...now I have its DVD which included the making of and voice cast interviews...awesome stuff! Yeah, Hot Rodd was an idiot for not listening to Cupp when he said stay outa it. But Optimus is awesome and he is legend nomatter what!

the live aciton movie sucks cuz they totally re did primes bad ass design and turned him into a pussy, same with megatron, it just isnt right, althoguh i cried when prime died in this movie and i have watched and memorized it a dozen times over, and the songs too, it caused a massive letter writing campaign by parents, which caused them to revive prme in the following season TWICE, and they learned from their mistake by not killing duke in the GI JOE movie

Bay's Transformers is... decent, but nothing compares to G1 Transformers. When it comes to Rodimus, I don't see how anyone can really complain. Sure he was no Optimus, but even Optimus gave his approval with the line "Arise, Rodimus Prime." He passed the torch onto Hot Rod then because at the time of Optimus' death Hot Rod wasn't ready for leadership.

Well, he destroyed Unicron, saved Cybertron and embraced his destiny as Autobot leader. Now, he was no Optimus, that I know. But his character never got to develop during the 3rd season. In the Japanese series Rodimus is still the leader, but he leaves charge to Magnus and the Headmasters.

yes he saved Optimus Prime&no he didnt kill Optimus Prime Megatron killed him. Hot Rod saw Megatron goin 4 the gun. &thats what the writers wrote. actually what your saying is a lie. Rodimus felt guilty for Optimus Primes death because he couldnt save him. & when Opitmus Prime was brought back to life it was Rodimus Prime last orders b4 the spores took him over. HotRod loved Optimus Prime&he didnt want him2die. Transformers is the greatest animated movie of all time&HotRod the star of the movie.

To quote the movie "Speed" "What do you do, shoot the hostage?" From a storytelling perspective, I think it needed to happen. Guilt is a powerful emotion, it can spur people to do great and terrible things. Even if Hot Rod didn't pull the trigger, he felt guilty, he felt that he caused Optimus Prime's death, and it's that guilt that triggered his "growth" throughout the rest of the movie and enabled him to become "The Chosen One.'

True. Also, Hot Rod takes on the persona of "Prime" as Rodimus (note the trailer he hauls behind him, as Optimus did). The way I see it, Optimus isn't really dead or gone. Optimus Prime told us (all of us) not to grieve, because he lives on in the Matrix through Rodimus (in all of us).

You're right. We must also remember that Optimus wasn't always "Prime". He was a simple dock worker named Orion Pax before he was attacked by Megatron. Hot Rod was just a kid, but he had fire in his heart; he wanted to help Prime, but Megatron (like the punk-bitch he is) used Hot Rod as a shield.

You are totally right that lame ass Hot Rod killed Optimus Prime and I loathed Hot Rod from then until today because of it. Optimus had Megatron beat and was about to finish him when the gay twirp Hot Rod got in the way. If I was Optimus I would have wasted Hot Rod and Megatron, but Optimus was too damn nice and got shot full of holes because of it. I quit watching Transformers after this film because I was so mad the little creep Hot Rod was made the new leader and all the cool Autobots died

Normally, I ignore idiotic flaming trolls like animefan and I will ignore this flaming troll in the future, but this comment was so dumb and poorly written that it needs ridicule. Yes, I know Transformers is a television show with writers that was run by a toy company (apparently this was a shock to you at some point). That fact does not change that Hot Rod was a lame ass, gay, character and that the direction the movie and the series went with him as the lead role stunk and killed the show.

I do not think that Hot Rod was that bad.. I just think that no character could step in to the spot that Prime left. To this day I still have not cared about a character lol. Who could have could that have put in that role and had people care about them.
Maybe Jazz, but sadly Scat man passed away .

Yes, Hot Rod was that bad and the television ratings and toy sales falling off a cliff show that. No character should replace Optimus Prime because Prime was an iconic hero that carried the franchise. If they were going with a new lame character to replace Prime, then an Ultr Magnus voiced by Robert Stack or Springer (who had a cool line about having better things to do tonight than die) would have been better choices than Hot Rod. Ironhide could have replaced Optimus, but he was killed too.

not to get too caught up in it, but sure he was always a little too gun'ho. But at least he made choices when he was presented with them. Rather then, "prime could of done better", "what do I do!?", "but prime you said."

Ironhide was gung ho (Cliffjumper and Braun were more gung ho and irrational), but he was a warrior fighting a war, so I want him like that as leader. Ultra Magnus, who Prime actually chose to lead, was a good choice because you could just tell he was a combat veteran who knew his stuff. Wheeljack could have been a good leader, but they wasted him when they killed all the good Autobots. GI Joe had a far stronger leadership structure with more quality leaders than the Autobots had as a whole.

Hot Rod was alright.
rodimus prime, kinda sucked.
Optimus/Hot rod was simply extremely poor marketing, Prime was one of the most loved chartoon characters.
I could go further into it but yeah. rodimus prime, always had issues with he's emo self questioning. Was set from the very start they might bring prime back.

Hot / Rod / Rodimus Prime is all the same to me and a matter of semantics with them changing his name. Even as a toy Hot Rod / Rodimus was really ugly and lame compared to the fun original Transformers. I never bought the whole "pull the Matrix apart and it automatically makes you a genius and a bad ass" story line they did. Bringing Optimus back was a last second stunt the series did to try out of the blue to reset the story lines, but it did not work because the audience was long gone.

It makes sense if you understand the matrix, which most people didn't, effectivly it was a repository for all the "sparks" aka the souls, of the primes that came before him...however Joeybsmooth does have a point, they shuold have not had him be the reason prime was dead

Yes, I know all the bull crap about the Matrix and technically it is the repository of the wisdom of the Autobot leaders because they did not want a whole religious controversy about souls. The Matrix is still a cheap plot device invented by lazy writers who trapped themselves in corners. The Matrix is a third rate rip off of the sword in the stone from Arthurian legend. We can not cure the disease, find a leader, or kill the monster, then just yank the Matrix and every thing is okay (barf).

Oh don't get me wrong the whole sparks thing rubbed me the wrong way too, but it does explain hotrod going from dumbass to badass in a quick transformation scene. Never should have been coupled up with "it also destroys evil that we can't"...leave it as a database...
