While I am not a big fan of Disney Fantasia is a masterpiece. I first saw it in 1971 since that time I have collected very thing on it from cels, lobby cards, posters, etc. Nothing from Disney has come close to Fantasia. It a shame since I know they have the talent and the tools.
TepidShark - thank you for this superb rendition of Clair de Lune. The visuals are so good - they are magic; and a perfect blending with the music. Disney (old original Disney) paid such attention to detail and really did convey a sense of magic-laced wonder in all that he did. After he died, the people that took over just don't have "it". This is a most special & unique video ... it was so well-done that I could actually capture a feeling of the misty atmosphere. I love the ending.
Let's find out why Disney went from Snow White and Fantasia to High School Musical and Hannah Montana, with the smartest robot in the world, ASIMO! So, ASIMO, why DID Disney go from Snow White and Fantasia to High School Musical and Hannah Montana?
Back in the days when you didn't scream about one particular emotion to get attention. This piece speaks in a small, gentle voice that rocks you to your core.
Debussay's music was featured in 'Twlight' when Edward took Bella to his house and they were in his bedroom. Edward attempted to dance w/Bella to 'Clair de Lune'.
Why do we have a load of boneheads prattling on about pronunciatiation. No matter which of the many beautiful languages used on this planet that you speak, this is Disney at his greatest. Just sit and enjoy one of the greatest cinematic experiences that you are ever likely to see.
@tope2828 Well my only thought to why they deleted it, was, as beautiful as it is, both musically and visually, there isn't really anything that grabs your attention, like the other segments in "Fantasia" that stayed in the movie.
That's just my opinion, I could be wrong .I'm just glad, however, they preserved both the animation and the music.
@disneyfan81 This was actually cut for time because Fantasia was too long already. They had planned for it in another version with different sequences replaced with new ones every so often; too bad it didn't work out. This animation did end up in Make Mine Music, with a different song (Blue Bayou) and slightly shorter. I do prefer this version, however.
Many children like myself (yes, I was a child many, many, many years ago) got their first taste of classical music this way. It become a lifeling love............... Thanks for the reminder.
My mom used to have a porcelain figure with a sad arlequin and a ballerina in his hands which was over a music box with clair de lune melody... I still remember myself as a child watching it turning around, so amazed by its beauty....
i find it mind-boggling how the animators could get the animation just "so" to the music. these old men were true geniuses of their time. and walt had the smarts to take them into his company and make all the classics that'll last forever in our hearts! thank you walt...thank you!
Why does all nostalgic sentiment on Y_T come with a negative connotation? I try to respect the past, and the now, while I dream of the future and the unknown in general. Thats what I think about when I listen to great classical pieces. "Classic" will always live in the hearts and minds of humans, thats why they are called classic, right?
@tjbiwr It is the same in art. Compare a Romanic cathedral to a Gothic one.
The objective of art is to provoke emotions in the receiver, and some genre's do it better than others, and that is why they are better in general.
Anybody would agree that a Gothic cathedral is nicer to look at than a Romanic one, just as Debussy or Mahler are nicer to listen to than David Guetta. It's that simple.
@Dan474834 Its going down the tubes, that's what--culturally, musically, politically (I know, lets not go there). Lets enjoy this incredible piece of artistry.
Dan - I observed a radical change in the stuff that Disney Corporation produced after the death of Walt Disney, the founder. He imparted a sense of magic & wonder in every production, & he was exacting at incorporating detail. I believe he had a special gift and shared it with the world thru everything he gave us. No one had his "touch"; and I think the people that took over his company were more interested in producing money than art. Exceptional Humans can't be replaced.
@starchildstrider So true. The magic of Disney was in the spirit of Walt. After his death, Disney was just downgraded to a company, only out for the money.
Maybe this was omitted because of the lack of storyline in the cartoon? I mean, the images are beautiful, but if you look at the other pieces used in Fantasia, their accompanying cartoons all have a very well planned story or structure.
Having said that, I have never heard this piece played like this. It's beautiful! completely changes the way I hear and feel about it!
The ripples go swell with the vibraphone! It's a shame this piece was omitted in the Fantasia collection. Maybe they're saving it for a Fantasia III????
Truly beautiful. A shame it didn't get into the first Fantasia, but as short as Fantasia 2000 was, it was almost criminal that they didn't add it to that one-- '40s animation style notwithstanding.
Wow, I never knew this existed! The arrangement and the imagery are haunting. I'm guessing Walt had to draw the line somewhere and admittedly this doesn't have much of a plot. However I would have preferred this to the dancing hippos ... ;-)
@rbrown6984 Woah woah woah!....Rap/Hip-Hop is only garbage on the radio...if you turn off your radio and keep your mind open musically you'll hear amazing music no matter what genre it may be....All Hip-Hop is,is poetry with a beat backing it. What a beautiful piece of Magic this is. Truly a masterpiece which shows the essence of tranquility and the true meaning of the Love that is eternal towards that one special person or other, that makes us whole, and so being complete in this world,,, as it was always meant to be.
The happiness of two beautiful animals that we ourselves, can learn from. Even in the prescence of no words being spoken, only the suttle motions and actions of of that special other. The true meaning of
if this had been included, my whole childhood would have been different. when i was 2-5 years old i would dance to fantasia over and over and over in my ballerina outfits, and from that i developed a love for classical music. i now play in a concert band and am working toward a minor in music in college. if clair de lune were included in fantasia, i would have learned and recognized the piece early. Before i even knew it was a deleted scene of fantasia, i have been working on it on piano.
After the video finished I gave a huge sigh! Classical music with Disney's excellent artists= perfection at its finest. I wish there could be another Walt Disney, but idk who can top the best!...
Yes, the images are just the ones seen during the Blue Bayou sequence from Make Mine Music, the sequence was deleted from Fantasia becouse of its huge lenght. The images are just too beautiful for the Blue Bayou song, the piece was born on Debussy's melody and for me have to be heard with this music. The Fantasia's bluray was the ideal occasion to restore and restaurate this sequence, Disney didn't do that and didn't include "Lorenzo", "One By One" and "The Little Matchgirl"'s sequence either...
Don't jump on me...I've never seen Fantasia. I do know OF IT. Some of the scenes, the dancing flamingos (?), the sorcerers apprentice one. But I've never actually seen the entire thing. Or the new version that was made. After this, I need to buy the dvd- oh, is this deleted scene on it? Could anyone tell me? BEFORE they berate me for not having seen this cinematographic gem?
Fantasia is just about my favorite movie, and I've seen it many times. But I've never seen this before. Pretty amazing to stumble across new authentic Fantasia after all these ages and ages. Thanks.
@sepulfuras That and the fact that it seems no one no longer makes 2-D movies anymore. I'm telling you, so much progress has ruined animation. Someone should really write Walt Disney Company a letter
@LABHP Actually, Disney's making a 2-D movie every two years. You know, like Winnie the Pooh, which is going to come out in a few days, that's a 2-D movie
@sepulfuras Close your eyes and your pain will go away . . . . DUH!! When you are at actual live performance all you see is the conductor's ass . . . . you keep looking at it or you close your eyes??.
@sepulfuras How dare you. Twilight was a Film, that not olny has a brilliant story line, but it introduced classical music into a teenage enviroment. Why would you get mad? Having the worlds young people, introduced to this peice of art is nothing to get pissed at. Personally, i think you need to replay this song a few tmes
The term "film" is commonly applied to movies of an artistic or educational nature not expected to have broad, commercial appeal. Therefore, Twilight is a movie, and what we're watching is a film. And...I feel that people watching Twilight were to busy paying attention to the "Brilliant story", rather than wondering,"Huh, what's this song called".
@CryingRose396536 Well, commonly where i live, i prefer to say film instead of movie. it just sound better. as i watched it i was curious to know the name of the song, as well as a few of my friends.
41 people obviously don't understand true beauty.... This is wonderful...Debussy and Disney all in one!!.... Thank you so much for posting this! It's just made my day... =)
It's a shame they don't do animations like this anymore. Cartoon movies use to be a work of art. Now it's all cheap cartoons and computer graphics :-/
Sometimes a piece just grabs hold of you in the most inexplicable way. It ties itself to your heart and refuses to let go, clinging as if for its very survival. There is no protest because you are at one with the piece. Each note surging and flowing, every chord the crest of wave that rolls back and forth beneath the moon of your soul. Life can never be the same after something like this, you can only strive to find that feeling and when you do, you find what it is to truly live.

Fantasia: an all-time classic !!
one of the best movies ever
AleXX1995XX 10 months ago
Yes, the images are just the ones seen during the Blue Bayou sequence from Make Mine Music, the sequence was deleted from Fantasia becouse of its huge lenght. The images are just too beautiful for the Blue Bayou song, the piece was born on Debussy's melody and for me have to be heard with this music. The Fantasia's bluray was the ideal occasion to restore and restaurate this sequence, Disney didn't do that and didn't include "Lorenzo", "One By One" and "The Little Matchgirl"'s sequence either...

Why is the same exact animation is also in Disney's Make Mine Music except with a different song? Interesting.

Blackthorne369 11 months ago
where, and how is one suppose to find a deleated scene like that?
hemanshera777 11 months ago
Fantasia is just about my favorite movie, and I've seen it many times. But I've never seen this before. Pretty amazing to stumble across new authentic Fantasia after all these ages and ages. Thanks.

Makes me so God damned pissed off that such a good classical song is used in such an absolute horse-shit movie, Twilight.

@AngelaCheerOfGaia Exactly.
"You gotta, accentuate the positive. Eliminate the negative an' latch on to the affirmative."
nazaxprime 8 months ago
@sepulfuras I'd consider getting over it if I were you. Greatness is eternal.
You do realize you just brought it up, thus perpetuating its popularity and attachment to this piece, right?
Perhaps I could persuade you in removing your comment to serve your own probable desire to forget?
If not, oh well, I'm enjoying the ride regardless.
nazaxprime 8 months ago
@sepulfuras look on the bright side, it was used in Ocean's Eleven first
hellothere9075 7 months ago
@hellothere9075 Used in "Frankie & Johnny" with Al Pacino before. :-) Since then one of my favourites.

@sepulfuras But at least the herd gets a taste of beauty. That's the freedom inherent to art's flight.

@sepulfuras what?! twilight is amazing!! just kidding. its shit.
pharaohoftheincubi 7 months ago
@sepulfuras That and the fact that it seems no one no longer makes 2-D movies anymore. I'm telling you, so much progress has ruined animation. Someone should really write Walt Disney Company a letter
LABHP 6 months ago
@LABHP Actually, Disney's making a 2-D movie every two years. You know, like Winnie the Pooh, which is going to come out in a few days, that's a 2-D movie

@sepulfuras Close your eyes and your pain will go away . . . . DUH!! When you are at actual live performance all you see is the conductor's ass . . . . you keep looking at it or you close your eyes??.
kkesoj 6 months ago
@sepulfuras How dare you. Twilight was a Film, that not olny has a brilliant story line, but it introduced classical music into a teenage enviroment. Why would you get mad? Having the worlds young people, introduced to this peice of art is nothing to get pissed at. Personally, i think you need to replay this song a few tmes
blankpageblank 6 months ago
@blankpageblank
CryingRose396536 6 months ago
@CryingRose396536 Well, commonly where i live, i prefer to say film instead of movie. it just sound better. as i watched it i was curious to know the name of the song, as well as a few of my friends.

ascoltare bene, è come

It's a shame they don't do animations like this anymore. Cartoon movies use to be a work of art. Now it's all cheap cartoons and computer graphics :-/

Sometimes a piece just grabs hold of you in the most inexplicable way. It ties itself to your heart and refuses to let go, clinging as if for its very survival. There is no protest because you are at one with the piece. Each note surging and flowing, every chord the crest of wave that rolls back and forth beneath the moon of your soul. Life can never be the same after something like this, you can only strive to find that feeling and when you do, you find what it is to truly live.
