  • Disney doing what they did best, shame something have to change

  • Timeless piece!!!

  • This is still the most beautiful song I've ever heard. It's really one of the few things that makes me happy anymore. Thank you.

  • this is absolutely beautiful! what in the world made Disney delete it?!

  • Magnificent.

  • I'm with thespacewriter, I can see why this one was cut; since they already had a calming/reflective piece with "Ave Maria".

Still, it's still a beautiful little segment.

  • actually, I can see why it might be cut for time; but it is very nice. The only thing that struck me as being even slightly "off" was the use of a crane instead of a swan, but that's just a quibble. Examining the animations done "back then" compared to today's efforts is also very enlightening.

  • me encanta esta melodía desde la primera vez que la escuche me fascino

  • i have an open mind so i listen to all types of music cause i mean without all these types of music the world wouldn't be colorful and by that i mean is that it wouldn't be expressed by different types of music and it would very boring :( so enjoy all the different types of music. :)

  • @Moog167 I second that. try listening to Nero's Dubstep Symphony. Pretty amazing!

  • While I am not a big fan of Disney Fantasia is a masterpiece. I first saw it in 1971 since that time I have collected very thing on it from cels, lobby cards, posters, etc. Nothing from Disney has come close to Fantasia. It a shame since I know they have the talent and the tools.

  • WHY DID'NT FANTASIA 2000 HAVE THIS?! It is really one of the best segments

  • I want to go live there

  • WHY was this removed?!

  • TepidShark - thank you for this superb rendition of Clair de Lune. The visuals are so good - they are magic; and a perfect blending with the music. Disney (old original Disney) paid such attention to detail and really did convey a sense of magic-laced wonder in all that he did. After he died, the people that took over just don't have "it". This is a most special & unique video ... it was so well-done that I could actually capture a feeling of the misty atmosphere. I love the ending.

  • I listen to this while doing my homework :) It's so relaxing..

  • this is the best verison of claire i found...thank you!!

  • 3:04 - 3:18...some of the most beautiful animation I have ever seen.

  • Dislikes? Serioiusly? Nice visuals and beautiful music.

  • What a combination...Claude Debussy and Fantasia.....

    Thousand Bravo to you TepidShark!...

  • Meu coração vai quebrar no meio, implodir e morrer 3 vezes. Quanta emoção!!

  • Back in the days when you didn't scream about one particular emotion to get attention. This piece speaks in a small, gentle voice that rocks you to your core.

  • Maybe he felt so guilty about destroying such a large piece of the river of grass to build his theme park that he took it out.

  • @itzRyebread I was also very impressed by Destino. I had no idea of this Dali and Disney work.

  • I had forgotten how beautiful this piece is! Just saw and heard this at the Hollywood Bowl in Fantasia night.

  • @Somma10691 Just got back from there as well! It was absolutely beautiful.

  • Debussay's music was featured in 'Twlight' when Edward took Bella to his house and they were in his bedroom. Edward attempted to dance w/Bella to 'Clair de Lune'.

  • Why do we have a load of boneheads prattling on about pronunciatiation. No matter which of the many beautiful languages used on this planet that you speak, this is Disney at his greatest. Just sit and enjoy one of the greatest cinematic experiences that you are ever likely to see.

  • 45 people have no concept of the divine. They have my sympathy.

  • Thank you TepidShark, its my favourite tune and I loved seeing this as I enjoyed the film too... thank you.

  • Would have preferred this to The Rite of Spring any day

  • why in the world would they delete such a beautiful song? :(

  • @tope2828 Well my only thought to why they deleted it, was, as beautiful as it is, both musically and visually, there isn't really anything that grabs your attention, like the other segments in "Fantasia" that stayed in the movie.

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong .I'm just glad, however, they preserved both the animation and the music.

  • @disneyfan81 yeah... too bad. But personally, I would have really wanted it be part of Fantasia. :)

  • @disneyfan81 This was actually cut for time because Fantasia was too long already. They had planned for it in another version with different sequences replaced with new ones every so often; too bad it didn't work out. This animation did end up in Make Mine Music, with a different song (Blue Bayou) and slightly shorter. I do prefer this version, however.

  • Many children like myself (yes, I was a child many, many, many years ago) got their first taste of classical music this way. It become a lifeling love............... Thanks for the reminder.

  • This is lovely! Thanks

  • Great!

  • I love this music!

  • Please stop talking about how bad Twilight is and enjoy the song. Negative attention is still attention. Peace!

  • Anyone who thinks Twilight has a "brilliant story line" hasn't actually seen a good movie or read a good book.

  • was so disappointed that this was not on the Blu-ray :/

  • FINALLY! The Orchestra version!

  • This should be in HD!!!

  • This has got to be the most beautiful version of this music that I have ever heard

  • Such an amazing music with an amazing video. Thanks for posting.

  • My mom used to have a porcelain figure with a sad arlequin and a ballerina in his hands which was over a music box with clair de lune melody... I still remember myself as a child watching it turning around, so amazed by its beauty....

  • fue lo mas hermoso que vi esta noche gracias a quien hizo este video es genial cada instante magico unico ..... genios!!!

  • to see my latest piano composition search "Ballade of the stars". Click on first video. I hope it moves you in some way

  • é uma porcaria de musica memso neh vão escutar um pauleira vão...

  • Classic Disney. Color, Music, the whole package!! BRAVO

  • i find it mind-boggling how the animators could get the animation just "so" to the music. these old men were true geniuses of their time. and walt had the smarts to take them into his company and make all the classics that'll last forever in our hearts! thank you walt...thank you!

  • This music is so relaxing and the vedio is mesmerizing. Thanks for posting. One of my favorites. Also listen to Libera's version. It's fantastic.

  • I could see why it was deleted, not much happening at all, it was picturesque but kids wouldn't find it interesting enough

  • why does clair de lune always, always make me cry... after 21 years and i still cry every single time, inevitable!

  • Thanks for uploading. Have always turned to Nocturnes to calm a mood, but Clare de Lune with Fantasia... Soul food!

  • thanks so much for uploading; didn't know this part of fantasia existed and it's beautiful; many, many thanks!!!

  • Un pezzo assolutamente superbo... Uno stato dell'Anima in assoluta contemplazione...Un volo dell'anima oltre se stassa...Stupendo !!!

  • this is what you call music, lasting for eternity

  • this is the most beautiful version i've ever heard

  • Why does all nostalgic sentiment on Y_T come with a negative connotation? I try to respect the past, and the now, while I dream of the future and the unknown in general. Thats what I think about when I listen to great classical pieces. "Classic" will always live in the hearts and minds of humans, thats why they are called classic, right?

    /shrug

  • 44 people like High School Musical. JERKS!!T_T

  • @glitchmastaz10000 Did the other one prefer "Hannah Montana" or "The Jonas Brothers"?!

  • LOL

  • Comment removed

  • Oh man, the atmosphere, music, animation..truely magical.

  • I prefer the 80's 90's era of disney ( Hercules Aladdin etc.) but this was really cool too!

  • Disney went from Snow White and Fantasia to High School Musical and Hannah Montana, while music went from Debussy to David Guetta.

What has happened to the world?

  • @Dan474834 Blame Michael Eisner and Anne Sweeney!

  • Comment removed

  • @Dan474834 diffferent genres

  • @tjbiwr It is the same in art. Compare a Romanic cathedral to a Gothic one.

The objective of art is to provoke emotions in the receiver, and some genre's do it better than others, and that is why they are better in general.

Anybody would agree that a Gothic cathedral is nicer to look at than a Romanic one, just as Debussy or Mahler are nicer to listen to than David Guetta. It's that simple.

  • @Dan474834 Its going down the tubes, that's what--culturally, musically, politically (I know, lets not go there). Lets enjoy this incredible piece of artistry.

  • @Dan474834 Oh you just couldnt be more right its a little depressing really. But you've hit the nail on the head

  • @Dan474834 oh god...dont get me started.....i miss old disney...ahhh...such a calming feeling it gives me...

  • @Dan474834 nothing good, that's for damn sure

  • @Dan474834

    Answer: commercialisation

  • @Dan474834

Dan - I observed a radical change in the stuff that Disney Corporation produced after the death of Walt Disney, the founder. He imparted a sense of magic & wonder in every production, & he was exacting at incorporating detail. I believe he had a special gift and shared it with the world thru everything he gave us. No one had his "touch"; and I think the people that took over his company were more interested in producing money than art. Exceptional Humans can't be replaced.

  • @starchildstrider So true. The magic of Disney was in the spirit of Walt. After his death, Disney was just downgraded to a company, only out for the money.

  • @Dan474834 No, not true, my daughter is a Disney animator and she loves the magic and can produce the magic.

Real artists work for love not money. My daughter is doing two jobs for free- for the love of art.

  • @Dan474834 You can't compare an orchestral composer and a modern dance composer. It is a completely seperate genre.

Think about if I took that sort of thinking to other things. What if I said

"The world went from the Great War to the Iraq invasion,

What has happened to the world?"

  • @Dan474834 something bad, man, something really bad

  • Lol, I knew one of Walt's best animations was named Frank Thomas, but Cy Young? Lou Gehrig didn't animate anything did he?

  • Maybe this was omitted because of the lack of storyline in the cartoon? I mean, the images are beautiful, but if you look at the other pieces used in Fantasia, their accompanying cartoons all have a very well planned story or structure.

Having said that, I have never heard this piece played like this. It's beautiful! completely changes the way I hear and feel about it!

  • @grizelda1986

    "All"? Toccata and Fugue?

  • The ripples go swell with the vibraphone! It's a shame this piece was omitted in the Fantasia collection. Maybe they're saving it for a Fantasia III????

Thank you for sharing it anyway...

  • also OCEANS 11..at the end at the ballagio as they ponder what they just pulled off lol

  • I can't wait to watch this with my kids...

  • Magic

  • Truly beautiful. A shame it didn't get into the first Fantasia, but as short as Fantasia 2000 was, it was almost criminal that they didn't add it to that one-- '40s animation style notwithstanding.

  • Wow, I never knew this existed! The arrangement and the imagery are haunting. I'm guessing Walt had to draw the line somewhere and admittedly this doesn't have much of a plot. However I would have preferred this to the dancing hippos ... ;-)

Are there any more deleted gems?

  • @yamex5 Hey! You lay off the dancing hippos. ;)

But yeah, it's a beautiful piece, and I wish it would have made it into Fantasia or at least Fantasia 2000.

  • A nice job on my favourite ever composition. Music to fall in love to. Truly beautiful.

  • 44 Dislike??!! WTF!?!?!?!

  • @TheFlyingFoodTester hahaha....

  • @rbrown6984 Good Point

  • @rbrown6984 Woah woah woah!....Rap/Hip-Hop is only garbage on the radio...if you turn off your radio and keep your mind open musically you'll hear amazing music no matter what genre it may be....All Hip-Hop is,is poetry with a beat backing it. Look for artists like Lupe Fiasco,J Dilla(who's music was recently was made into a suite for an orchestra) or Pete Rock they make Hip-hop a art.

    Again the radio/mainstream ruins rap....

BTW I dig this and Rap....

  • @rbrown6984 I hate when people write what you wrote. You dont have to make a choice between this and rap, or anything else for that matter. I grew up on rap and love it, but I also think this is one of the most beautiful pieces ever written. What you wrote just divides and makes appreciation a smaller thing, pls think about it.

  • @rbrown6984 44 people "don't like this song"

  • @rbrown6984 44 people are idiots.

  • @rbrown6984

Well, educate them on real music instead of criticizing them!

  • @rbrown6984

Well, educate them on real music instead of criticizing them!

  • What a beautiful piece of Magic this is. Truly a masterpiece which shows the essence of tranquility and the true meaning of the Love that is eternal towards that one special person or other, that makes us whole, and so being complete in this world,,, as it was always meant to be.

The happiness of two beautiful animals that we ourselves, can learn from. Even in the prescence of no words being spoken, only the suttle motions and actions of of that special other. The true meaning of

     "LOVE".

  • Claire de lune is an amazing piece of music. And it's the best of classical music i have heard in years.

  • doesn't this song also start or end another disney movie? it seems like i remember it with a voiceover talking about something or other

  • if this had been included, my whole childhood would have been different. when i was 2-5 years old i would dance to fantasia over and over and over in my ballerina outfits, and from that i developed a love for classical music. i now play in a concert band and am working toward a minor in music in college. if clair de lune were included in fantasia, i would have learned and recognized the piece early. Before i even knew it was a deleted scene of fantasia, i have been working on it on piano.

  • is this on the bluray? I would love to have this so I could watch it as many times as I would want...:)

  • Enjoyed! Thanks for posting !

  • One of my very favorite pieces of music. Such a shame that Disney deleted this.

  • Nice version but I still prefer the piano. Don't like the muted trumpets at the start of the poco mosso, makes it sound a bit creepy

  • ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡Qué bello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..

  • After the video finished I gave a huge sigh! Classical music with Disney's excellent artists= perfection at its finest. I wish there could be another Walt Disney, but idk who can top the best!...

  • Where did you find this

  • hey, there are 44 assholes who hates REAL music!!

maybe they're fans of lady gaga

  • Why was this deleted? Also would have been one of my favourites

  • this is not just good music, this is perfectionism

  • I think the birds a crane? I dunno. Seems like it.

  • One of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.

  • So beautiful. I love it.

  • the animation is somehow too simple ,compared to it's sister animations

  • 42 people don't know what they're doing with their lives.

  • Gorgeous.

  • Love the way water shimmered and moved under the hands of Disney animators. *adoring sigh*

  • all i can think of is ren and stimpy that is low

  • Yes, the images are just the ones seen during the Blue Bayou sequence from Make Mine Music, the sequence was deleted from Fantasia becouse of its huge lenght. The images are just too beautiful for the Blue Bayou song, the piece was born on Debussy's melody and for me have to be heard with this music. The Fantasia's bluray was the ideal occasion to restore and restaurate this sequence, Disney didn't do that and didn't include "Lorenzo", "One By One" and "The Little Matchgirl"'s sequence either...

  • Why is the same exact animation is also in Disney's Make Mine Music except with a different song? Interesting.

  • magical

  • Don't jump on me...I've never seen Fantasia. I do know OF IT. Some of the scenes, the dancing flamingos (?), the sorcerers apprentice one. But I've never actually seen the entire thing. Or the new version that was made. After this, I need to buy the dvd- oh, is this deleted scene on it? Could anyone tell me? BEFORE they berate me for not having seen this cinematographic gem?

  • where, and how is one suppose to find a deleated scene like that?

  • Fantasia is just about my favorite movie, and I've seen it many times. But I've never seen this before. Pretty amazing to stumble across new authentic Fantasia after all these ages and ages. Thanks.

  • So beautiful x

  • Makes me so God damned pissed off that such a good classical song is used in such an absolute horse-shit movie, Twilight.

  • @sepulfuras This was in Twilight?

  • @sepulfuras At least its being featured =/

  • @AngelaCheerOfGaia Exactly.

"You gotta, accentuate the positive. Eliminate the negative an' latch on to the affirmative."

  • @sepulfuras I'd consider getting over it if I were you. Greatness is eternal.

You do realize you just brought it up, thus perpetuating its popularity and attachment to this piece, right?

Perhaps I could persuade you in removing your comment to serve your own probable desire to forget?

If not, oh well, I'm enjoying the ride regardless.

  • @sepulfuras look on the bright side, it was used in Ocean's Eleven first

  • @hellothere9075 Used in "Frankie & Johnny" with Al Pacino before. :-) Since then one of my favourites.

  • @sepulfuras But at least the herd gets a taste of beauty. That's the freedom inherent to art's flight.

  • @sepulfuras what?! twilight is amazing!! just kidding. its shit.

  • @sepulfuras That and the fact that it seems no one no longer makes 2-D movies anymore. I'm telling you, so much progress has ruined animation. Someone should really write Walt Disney Company a letter

  • @LABHP Actually, Disney's making a 2-D movie every two years. You know, like Winnie the Pooh, which is going to come out in a few days, that's a 2-D movie

  • @sepulfuras Close your eyes and your pain will go away . . . . DUH!! When you are at actual live performance all you see is the conductor's ass . . . . you keep looking at it or you close your eyes??.

  • @sepulfuras How dare you. Twilight was a Film, that not olny has a brilliant story line, but it introduced classical music into a teenage enviroment. Why would you get mad? Having the worlds young people, introduced to this peice of art is nothing to get pissed at. Personally, i think you need to replay this song a few tmes

  • @blankpageblank

The term "film" is commonly applied to movies of an artistic or educational nature not expected to have broad, commercial appeal. Therefore, Twilight is a movie, and what we're watching is a film. And...I feel that people watching Twilight were to busy paying attention to the "Brilliant story", rather than wondering,"Huh, what's this song called".

  • @CryingRose396536 Well, commonly where i live, i prefer to say film instead of movie. it just sound better. as i watched it i was curious to know the name of the song, as well as a few of my friends.

  • hahaha who youtube this because of edward in twilight? lol :)

  • schön.

    (:

  • 41 people obviously don't understand true beauty.... This is wonderful...Debussy and Disney all in one!!.... Thank you so much for posting this! It's just made my day... =)

  • ascoltare bene, è come

  • What kind of people can dislike this beautiful music?

  • but the 41?Why?What`s false?I don`t understand....

  • When I have anxiety (which I am having lately), I can watch this to relax and calm down.

  • I love how the swan looks lonely in the beginning but then the other swan comes. Its cute <3

  • words cannot explain the beauty of this.

  • This is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing it.

  • Like this if you wish "Musicana" came out. Like the awsomest unreleased Disney movie since Destino came out.

  • Quelle splendeur

  • fantasia is so creepy and cool...

  • It's so haunting and beautiful...it makes me want to cry.

  • It's a shame they don't do animations like this anymore. Cartoon movies use to be a work of art. Now it's all cheap cartoons and computer graphics :-/

  • @Desireecheney Pixar?

  • @Hyphin1 Pixar is the only studio that puts actual effort into their work. All the rest suck.

  • listening to this while watching Australia win the cricket, good times :)

  • Sometimes a piece just grabs hold of you in the most inexplicable way. It ties itself to your heart and refuses to let go, clinging as if for its very survival. There is no protest because you are at one with the piece. Each note surging and flowing, every chord the crest of wave that rolls back and forth beneath the moon of your soul. Life can never be the same after something like this, you can only strive to find that feeling and when you do, you find what it is to truly live.

  • @LotusRonin schön ausgedrückt!

  • ..on the gondola of my soul

  • THE LIGHT TOUCH IS THE RIGHT TOUCH / ITS SUNDAY NIGHT I'M STILL DIGESTING A TIGHT BRUNCH

  • thumbs up (in heart if not in praxis) if notorious net artist and collagist extraordinaire Alexandra Gorczynski sent you here!
