@GreaseLightning02 No no, 30 years in the future there is a communicable disease which causes homosexuality threatening to make the human race extinct through lack of procreation.
LOL! I love when Michael Ironside asks "Who's there with you?" and when Marshall Bell screams "Oh God! We're gonna die!"... Yes, the movie could've been a better adaptation but Ed Neumeier's and P. Verhoeven's version has its own little qualities too...
I have to say I watched the movie first then read the book but I like them both I mean yes the film is more action packed but thats no suprise really but I like the way the book is more in-depth. so i like both.
It's a poor adaption because supposedly it wasn't even based on the book. The way I heard it the screenwriters had this screenplay already done for their own space action movie, marines vs bugs, and someone in Hollywood told 'em "hey that sort of sounds like a book called Starship Troopers which we currently have the rights to" so they changed the name of their movie to Starship Troopers but pretty much went with their own original script, adding in a couple of details from the book.
ok name the good points about the book ? the endless discription of things you dont even care about ?, the lack of bug appearances ?, the build up to a bug fight that is boring as hell ?
Sounds like you saw the movie first, then picked up the book thinking it was a novelization of the screenplay. It was Heinlein's story. Not Verhoven's. Your critisms of the book sound very feeble, since the point of the book wasnt just "bugs".
well i saw the film then saw it was based on a novel in the credits, and having previously read alot of other novels which have been adapted to film i couldnt wait to read this one, but i couldnt have been more dissapointed, and no of course the point of the book isnt just bugs but they should've played a bigger part, the book is just one big encyclopedia of boring information about a made up military school that no-one gives 2 fudges about.... sigh
@RonzilWeazleBack Wow did you even read the book? Right from the get go there was TONES of action the bootcamp part was only like a couple chapters.
of course peaple like you cant sit still for five seconds without something getting blown up so i understand that you couldent wait five seconds before the action returned.
@RonzilWeazleBack Dude, book beats movie anyday. Unlike the movie, the book actually made you think (and God forbid you use your brain for anything aside from watching stuff get blown up) about the importance of duty, society, self, and many other things as well as give us enjoyable action sequences. Right from the start, the Roughnecks engage the Skinnies. That is what you'd call "action" now wouldn't it? Thing is the real action is the depth of the book, not the "action" you speak of.
This was hilarious. "Men forgot how to make love to women" very clever. This reminds me its a huge let down not to see Carmen's boobs :(
I suggest the next time you watch Star Ship Troopers, you use the following drinking game to get through it:
Drink on every-
Impalement
Severed Limb
Each boob (that's two per woman)
Every time they shout GO! or COME ON!
Also Every time they say "Rough Necks" or "Bug"
Last of all, when Neil Patrick Harris is on Screen, Chug.

worst adaptation of a book .......EVER
the worst part is the treatment of Sgt Zim who instead of being the dedicated teacher he is in the book is turned into a masochistic arsehole.
Shines the name , shines the name of Rodger Young

the movie is awesome. I agree with you that the book is better(original story, more lively). I respect Heinlein too!
