An appeal to Mary to "pray for us sinners now and at the hour of death" is part of the prayers of the rosary. That may be why it is considered a funeral song in the Philippines. They may consider Whispering Hope a Christmas song because of midnight services & hope thru Jesus.

The song Whispering hope was written by Septimus Winner way back in 1868, he was the son of a instrument maker (violins)....The Andrew sisters did not have the first recording of this song.
To my knowledge, the first recording of Whispering hope was recorded in 1914 by Olive Kline and Elsie baker
This is one of my favorite inspirational recordings by the trio. Such beautiful, lilting harmonies. The audio has some slight ticks & the speed is a bit slow, but it's great to have any exposure for Patty, Maxene & LaVerne, who, considering their large, impressively eclectic body of work are much too often overlooked for their 29 years of studio-recorded material. yup indeed in the visayas too it sounds like Sopas da voice ha ha ha. never heard this version before. It's nice to know the original, I used to sing this loudly with the rest during caroling together with the 3 kings of oriental. brings back sweet memories of the 70's.

This hymn was written shortly after the Civil War. It is now about 140
years old. And it was recorded long before the Andrews sisters.
But whatever the facts, it's a wonderful song. By Septimus Winner who
also wrote "Listen to the Mocking Bird".

This is my one of my favorite songs they did in 1949. I also liked "I Can Dream Can't I".
