@kimpunkrock how the west was won wasn't shot in a 16:9 aspect ratio, it was shot in a super wide cinerama setup which was actually three cameras in a criss cross creating a 146 degree viewing angle and was mean to be viewed on a curved screen in cinerama theatres. in comparison 16:9 is equal to 1.35:1 whereas cinerama is roughly equal to 2.65:1 which shows up in the middle 1/3 of a SD television set. also interestingly the way it was shot cinerama was played back at 26, not the usual 24 fps.
@KingofComputing Right, like Cinemiracle which filmed the movie "Windjammer" about the last sailing square-rigger ships that has 1 surviving pink print.
