Ok, me again. I don't get why Aaron idn't have to return to the island either. He left, but didn't come back... that doesn't make sense- never has to me. But, maybe Jacob is waiting for him to return to the island?
Yeah the whole Aaron thing was kind of a cop out. They just said "recreate the event as much as possible" but it was just an excuse so they didn't have to bring him back.
I'm not sure if this was said already, but I really didn't get why Alex was there at all. It said that her mother was working 2 jobs to support them, but if nothing had happened with the island then why was her father dead? There wasn't enough there to clear up all the questions that she brought up by being there. Plus, her mother was a french scientist so how did she end up a poor single mother in America? The whole thing just threw me and I couldn't suspend reality enough to buy it.
Another good ep however I was thrown with Linus having been on the island, I thought it was under water. As for Jack changing places with John that happened the second he made up his mind (if he did ie compelled) to return. More of the same next ep
To get an idea of what I think may be going on watch "Donnie Darko". In that movie, when they enter the tangent universe, all sorts of crazy stuff starts happening as "causality" to correct itself. People start acting strange and Donnie Darko is even able to bend the laws of physics.
Perhaps, with Jacob touching them, it's not really giving them superpowers but just bends the rules a little, in order to position them to set things right.
I read that, this season, the producers had shot a scene with Libby and "The Elizabeth". Whatever that one thing is, the singularity, that birthed this alt. timeline, it had something to do with Libby's husband.
The only reason the plane crashed in the first place is because Desmond failed to push the button, and the only reason Desmond was on the island is because he was given Libby's late husband's boat. If Her husband hadn't died the plane would never have crashed.
Another good review, thanks! I don't think Jacob was bringing Widmore to the island. I also think widmore is working for/with Smokey, he did say that if John didn't go back to the island the "wrong side is going to win". No John, no minipulation of Ben to kill Jacob... I dunno haha!
I agree that is exactly what I've been telling people who say Whidmore is Wallace for Jacob. Also Eloise seems to be working for Smokey too because she also wanted to make sure that dead Loche made it back.
Thanks again ThinkHero.. I loved this episode. I agree that Widmore is -not- who Jacob is waiting for. In the previous 'enhanced' version of the episode "Sundown", it reminded us that Widmore was desperate for Locke to return to the island. If he didn't, the 'wrong side' would win. Since Locke's body became the puppet of MIB, it's pretty assured that Charles is on the side of eeeevil. :o)

it was under water BUT all of the darma house were there which is to say that the island wasn't always underwater

On a sidenote I don't like Eloise's character, they make her seem like this cardboard cutout instead of a real person.

It seems like Widmore and Eloise may both be evil.
I can't wait until Desmond returns. (Not a spoiler, I'm just gussing he will)
