@r0ck3t1337 Yes, using wine. Here is a guide: developer[DOT]valvesoftware[DOT]com[SLASH]wiki[SLASH]Steam_under_Linux (Replace [DOT] with a dot (.), and [SLASH] with a Slash (/)) But it will run slower than on Windows, because Linux =/= Windows, and it takes a bit more resources to use Windows Binaries.
hey..Thanks for uploading this video..i got a acer aspire 1 laptop and it was running XP home edition it was running so slowly i just wanted to sell it , had it listed on a well known website
Then i remembered ubuntu so i thought yeah lets give it a go..now it running ubuntu 10.11
why is it when its probably a driver issue and i turn on the cube in compiz the whole fuckin system fails ! no upper menu no side bar no super tap even after many restarts and tries to reset compiz settings to default from terminal ... weak programming .. very weak programming ......
A little tip for Telstra customers in Australia that use Ubuntu.
When selecting your software sources, select the aarnet.edu.au mirror.
This mirror is on Telstra's unmetered list. Which means that any updates you download or software you add from the main repo will not affect your download limit.
What screen recorder and settings are you using. I've tried all available in the software manager but can never get a smooth capture. Maybe a tutorial is in order :)
Great tutorial. I'm a recent convert & I've been putting ubuntu on all my computers at home (dual booting) . Wish i'd made the move years ago.
@YourUbuntu Not really, if you add a whole bunch of programs at startup, than that'll slow it down...otherwise, your machine will keep roaring for years. I've got a super stable workhorse that is still running a fully updated 10.04 install (like yours) and it still boots in 15 seconds, and still rips through everything I give it. So from my experience, Ubuntu does not ever slow down. It's pretty awesome actually...Peace out fellow Aussie!
I can't figure out how to connect to the internet on ubuntu. (I'm typing this on a windows.) Do I have to manually type in everything just to connect to a wireless network? (like SSID? I don't even know what that is!)
@MrHollywoodCog Hi there. First you'll want to check if the wireless drivers are installed and functional. In most cases they should be, but if not...look for 'Additional Drivers' in the 'System' menu and install the recommended wireless driver. After a reboot the various options in the Network icon on the right side of the panel should show up, and it's a simple 'click-and-connect' from there. Hope that helps.
@rpnp1 That's fantastic, when I first started with Linux I was really looking for this sort of guide, and so that's the reason I eventually made one. I'm glad it helped.
@mela1562 Okay, if you right click on the clock and hit preferences, there should be an option under the "General" tab to select either "24-hour time" or "12-hour" time. Let me know if that helps at all. I can remember having trouble with that before.
yeah about that, the thing is, there is no such option ñ__ñ
idk y that happens maybe its my ubuntu idk, but its darn weird that there is no such option under preferences, as its something basic even for a celphone ñ__ñ
@mela1562 Okay, try going into "System>Administration>Language Support" and click on the "Text" tab. Toggle through the different localizations until you find one that works, or one that will enable the option to switch between 12 & 24 hour by right-clicking the clock. Good luck! Let me know if that works.
@mela1562 Ubuntu 10.10. Up in the top right hand corner, click the time and date to make the menu drop down. Click the locations arrow. A time zone map drops down and an edit box to the right appears. Click the edit box. Click the general tab then click the 12 hour format. I hope this helps. I am too late I bet.
thanks for the reply, your actually not late =), the thing is i dont know why but ther is no such option in the general tab, or any other.. i cant really explain myself why.. maybe its my ubuntu.. or idk.. im actually seriously thinking of re-installing ubuntu.. to see if the problem disappears ñ__ñ

@chillart02 Thanks, Unity in 11.04 is a bit different for the menu's and interface, but the principles are virtually the same.
