every damn time Mary says " and you Queen Elizabeth" and the music starts..i think of the Golden Age and Cate Blanchett and just get chills! What a damn fine queen Elizabeth was!
@sidwellian2012 yeah that's what I meant :P the fact that Elizabeth never bothered making her parent's marriage valid is saying something about her view of Anne...
@AnahSkywalker She probably had a positive view of her mother. After she became queen, she had a ring made that contained miniature portraits of her mother and herself. It's known as the chequers ring.
It's a pity The Tudors ended with Henry's death. I think they should have at least gone on until Elizabeth became queen. It would have been nice to see the decline in Elizabeth and Mary's relationship and how they would have portrayed Mary's final days when she refused to sign Elizabeth's death warrant.
@cardwitch91 This is true. I'm pretty sure they could have made it happen. Elizabeth wasn't a virgin. There's tons of drama and sex in the late Tudor era.
the odd thing is that elizabeth has red hair in The Tudors, as she should, although, since historically that came from her father King Henry, JRM is dark-haired...lol
@bookworm1138 Yeah, plus Catherine of Aragon is also dark-haired in this series, while according to her historical portraits, she was like a strawberry blonde.
@AnahSkywalker Actually he didn't legitimize them, he just restored them to the succession while maintaining he'd never been married to their mothers. Henry did like to have his cake and eat it too... Later, when Mary was queen, she declared her parents' marriage valid and legitimized herself, but if I recall correctly Elizabeth never did that.
@1536anne Well Michael Hirst also did the films 'Elizabeth' and 'Elizabeth : The Golden Age' so I think for him, it would have been like repeating what he had already done. I recommend both films highly, they follow on from the series well :)
@1536anne I agree. I mean, we just started to see Mary's dark side coming out. And at least as far as she's characterized here, I think once Anne was dead, Mary was more inclined to love her sister than compete with her, because she recognized their similar tragedies. In this scene, she even smiles at the idea that Elizabeth might one day be queen. But we all know that once Mary took the throne, their rivalry started again, which would have been fascinating to see.
@CareBearCountdown. It is said that it was both, she commented on her mother and Catherine Howard, many times when talking about marriage, especially Catherine Howard since she remembered her more than her mother, and the fact like you said, that she was sexually abused by her stepfather further firmed her views on marriage.
I'm sure this wasn't the only reason why Elizabeth didn't want to marry. Pretty sure it also had to with the fact that she was sexually assaulted by her stepfather (Catherine Parr's husband after Henry). That's sure to put a damper on a female's view of marriage and men in general.
@luvndanestrin Looks like someone has been reading Phillipa Gregory books. All CREDIBLE historians agree that she was assaulted by Seymour, who was indulging her childish crush and taking advantage of her. It has been noted that Elizabeth resorted to getting up earlier and earlier in the day so that Seymour would not catch her in her night clothes. Remember that Elizabeth was 13/14 at this time and was unaware of how to react to his 'attention'.
@LissyDu Actually my dear, I am QUITE aware that she woke up earlier and earlier each morning and that it was even stressing her out and she was once noted to say that she will "Never get any sleep" if the morning escapades continue. EVERYONE knows this info, darling. However, I have still read HISTORY books (don't be pretentcious and assume what I do or don't read) that she was encouraging it because although infatuation and childish, the lust was there and she liked the attention.
@luvndanestrin . Oh my goodness! I am sorry, I have just realised how idiotic I sounded, I really am sorry, I shouldn't assume things like that - i just get so fed up with people who read PGs stuff and take it as truth, please forgive me for being so priggish etc. with you. Note - I am not being sarcastic (you probably guessed that already, but it is sometimes hard to pick up sarcasm when its written)
@luvndanestrin Also, what History books were there that you read? I love Tudor history and get dissapinted on some of the styles I have read - do you reccomend any. I really am sorry for my rude post you.
@LissyDu It's fine. I ignore the immaturity and stupidity of indiviuals whom try to "fight" via youtube comments with strangers. Not only does it imply a lack of confidence but also a lack of intelligence. And a downright lack of life.
@luvndanestrin thanks - I really didn't mean to try and start a fight. Luckily you are not one of those immature people (unlike me I fear). Thanks again
@LissyDu Moving on: There are a plethora of Tudor History books. Not sure what cite/state/or country you live in but I live in glorious Los Angeles and my library's history NONFICTION MIND YOU section is filled with several shelves of Tudor England books. You may want to check out Alison Weir. She is a historian and bestselling author from Surrey, England whom writes historical novels and historical fiction. Her history novels are fact based and accurate, yet not boring.
@luvndanestrin I LOVE Alison Weir books - I have read quite a few of them (its where I mainly get my information from also books by David Starkey)Oh yeah I'm from England - I am very jealous of you for living in LA it seems so amazing from what I have heard.
I read this one book on Elizabeth I - really badly written glossed over a lot, didn't really say anything but was also really long - I forget the authers name (then again it could have been my history homework)
@LissyDu Awesome! She's really great. I haven't heard of David Starkey but I will check it out. I was at Borders today (not sure if they have those in England.. it is a chain book store here in the states); and I found a NEW Tudor England book I haven't seen. It seemed like an overall book so prob not much detail but great overview (it was thick though). It had an AMAZING Tudor family tree startign with the Plantagenets. I didn't grab the author :/ I want the book though!
@luvndanestrin I have heard of Borders, but we dont get them over here. I love looking at the family trees - they are so interesting. Here's something I meant to tell you - Alison Weir did a book reading of her novel ELizabeth at a castle near where I live (well before I left for university). Didn't see her though as it fell on my birthday so I already had plans. Shame really though - the castle she was at belonged to Robert Dudley and is one of my favourite places
@LissyDu That's awesome. I am dying to go to London and see the palaces/castles, Tower of London, etc. In fact, I have a tattoo with England's flag on it. I also want to see my idol Nell Gwynne's birthplace.
@luvndanestrin The Tower of London is amazing! i have only been there once - but it was pretty cool. Also reccomend Warwick castle too. You like Nell Gwynne too? Thats pretty cool!
@luvndanestrin did you really mean you live smoggy-overcrowded-can't breathe-too much traffic-takes 30 minutes to 1 hour to drive to work and back-shallow pretentious movie star dumbasses with nice titts and cute buts Los Angeles?
Personally, I like this Elizabeth. She always seems so catious and I actually like the acting, although she is no Cate she's done very well with her acting (:
@xNolimetangere I like her too. ...Her hair bothers me, though. It looks like a bad perm that was fried with a straightening iron. ...Not that detracts from either her beauty or her acting. It's just one of those things that I wish they'd taken more care with. Because she does have such pretty red hair! ...Gah.
I read that Elizabeth decided not to get married because of what happened to Katherine but Elizabeth was wise. I believe she didn't want to marry because of what happened to her mother.
I can understand that the both of them are friends since despite the dispute btw their mothers it is technically Henry's fault that the both of the former Queens died.
But I just cannot fathom how Mary can STILL love her father after all the things he did. I mean okay, she could suck up to him sure so that she can have the crown someday, but it truly looks as if she fights for his approval, and that I simply cannot understand. Were it me, I would hate him forever.
@TheGuardianizz It's probably because he's the only parent she has left, and she's starved for affection and praise. She probably does hate him, and so would anyone in that position, but I also think anyone in that position would be savenging for what little bit of parental attention they can get.
I like this Elizabeth. She has that sort of quirky sense of pretty, much like Anne Boleyn who wasn't really considered beautiful (despite Natalie being stunning).
@FlowerChild65 nat is gorgeous yes, but in that time beauty was completely different. Anne was the opposite of the preferred look, and so was elizabeth

The actress playing as Elizabeth is very ugly and a discredit to The Tudors casting. If anyone disagrees that is fine for them, but I am correct and my entire family agrees. The should have chosen something closer to historical accuracy (small mouth, dark eyes, very "English" looking). Actually why do I bother? Tudors died with Anne in series 2.
Well, then don't bother. No matter what you or your family say, I personally think Laoise Murray is very pretty and does a good job, considering this is her first TV role. Don't expect Glenda Jackson or Cate Blanchett. And no matter how much you liked Natalie Dormer as Anne Boleyn, the series did not revolve soley around her and it did not die with her. It's called "The Tudors" not "Anne Boleyn"
@bodymadeforsin Umm. The show is called the Tudors. You need to watch Anne of a Thousand Days then. Anne Boleyn was not a Tudor, she was married to one. Henry, Mary, Elizabeth and Edward have Tudor blood. Secondly, you have no idea what the real Elizabeth looked, only through paintings which were idealized.
