I am not normally a great fan of "yodelling" but in this case I believe she's the most powerful exponent of the genre today. Of course it isn't any hardship looking at her, either! It's not reasonable to compare Margret Almer with Melanie Oesch. You would have to compare videos from them when Almer was Oesch'es age. "Jetzt wird's lustig" as well as the Kucku yodel doesn't contain the Yodel-typic traversing of multiple levels + word enunciation because they are innovative : They substitute a fairly continuous coloratura (but far below even mezzo sophrano voice level) with more energy in air-expulsion, producing pretty much a new, surprisingly deep sound in the Yodel genre, and one that is clearly successful. A "traditional" Yodel sung by Melanie Oesch would be "Jodelfamilie" , with broader tone range.

Melanie is excellent, but is not the Yolder that Margret Almer is,,,Melanie just wiggles her tongue back and fourth with her mouth open, whereas Margret Almer actually makes the YO and OH sounds, and actually sings as she yodels.

Margret Almer is the Yolder that all others are measured by.

Of course it's very subjective but, I listened to a few extra of, Almer's songs and it reinforces that her songs are a lot more "technically enhanced" (in my opinion, excessive reverb). Ousch's efforts sound more like a live stage performance (which I prefer). Both women have similar styles and, as you note, both are very good. Maybe I shouldn't but, I also listen for things like positioning of the instruments in the stereo field, etc. and Ousch again sounds more "live".

I agree,,,Osch dose sound more like a live performance. Yes, im sure Margret Almer's reverb is studio enhanced, but none the less better sounding. The reverb has a more natural sound to the yodel. Margret Almer also pronounces the OH and YO sounds more than Melanie Osch. There again, Melanie just wiggles her tongue whereas Margret actually Yodels. Im sure Melanie Osch will get better with practice!

Listen to the instrumental intro, it is sort of a back-and-forth, slightly sad in tone,purposefully restrained,it sets the base, it prepares for the for the energy of the middle. Basically the whole piece says " We are a still a sane society.."

Note also the use of older dancers, not common in modern music otherwise. Note the friendly greeting of the old dancer to the partner.
