  • You look a bit like Jake Gyllenhaal

  • Why are people from diffrent countrys obbsesed with our accent?

  • im sorry but i LOVE yir brogue i think guys with them are automaticly cayuuuute !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ....*cough* gerard butler *cough* *cough* but yaaa teww

  • @MAMAMAMAKEUP1 But he's Scottish.

  • my Uncle-in-law (My sister married this guy’s son, which made him my uncle) speaks so fast & with his heavy accent, along with half of what hes saying is Irish slang, I can hardly understand what he’s saying half the time. Sadly, he went back 2 Ireland after dat so Im going around the net hoping 2 learn how 2 speak in this accent by the time he comes back. Idk if an accent can be “taught”, but if u are somehow an amazing teacher, or u kno certain websites you’d recommend 2 look at, care 2 share?

  • @music8mysoul The best way to get used to an accent is to immerse yourself in it.

If you know where he's from you could look up that accent.

That is probably the best advice I can give you.

  • 1 ugly bastard

  • i have an Irish friend but he sounds like he's from Alabama (he has an southern accent.) haahhaah

  • Thumbs up if you clicked this because you thought it was Khip from napoleon dynamite. :)

  • Can you believe, living in England for most of my life, I didn't know I had an Irish accent till I was 16? I just thought I sounded like everyone else. Mum brought it up to me one day....it's videos like this that confirm it =D So thank you! My accent isn't very strong since growing up in England but my mum is Irish as are my ancestors. I've got the melody at the end of everything I say!...ahh! =D

    Cheers!

  • Im From Mayo And I Was Born In Galway :D :) How Cool Is Dat :D OMG i Love Cong :)

    Good Video :)

  • I'm From Mayo :) :D

  • ahahh irish accents are the funniest. They are like a cross between an american accent and an english one.

  • @Raidelle yeah I've had people in school make fun of mine, growing up in England, for a bit. Had one person think I had a new yorker accent so your comment is probably true. I corrected him, and he then realized I was right. As an adult now, I mostly get respect for it now, as should everyone from Ireland. Beautiful country!

  • @MeLittleAbbey okay i am not making fun by the way! i would give up my regular western accent for yours anydayyyyyyyyy!

  • St. Jarlath's?

  • ...Is absolutely nothing like the Hollywood 'England' accent. We spoke a little like that back in the 1800s but not anymore. I find their 'English' accents extremely offending because we do NOT speak like that. Honestly, you are right, they should do their research better. Sorry for any typos or missed out words as I kept on changing my mind about what i was going to say. Thanks for that informing video, Akarie (I'm a huge Anime fan, that's why my screen name's Japanese.)

  • ...When I was 11 until I was 15 I went to a private school where everyone spoke really well, pronounced all of their words and everything - especially the teachers. Again I didn't spend much time with the students. After that I went to state school and started watching a lot of American TV, it's softened my 'posh' English accent a bit but when I am on my reading aloud (i.e. concentrating) I start using it again. Anyway, what I wanted to say is my 'posh' English accent...

  • I agree with you completely about the Hollywood accents part. I'm Scottish, however I have lived in England since I was 1 and a half so have never had a Scottish accent. My Dad is English and most of friends are too. I didn't socialise much when I was younger and I picked most of my speaking habits off of my teachers and later on my Dad. When I was really little I remember spending a lot of time with my Mum who's German, because of this I sometimes go higher at the end of my sentences...

  • The only thing I'm ever sure of with pronunciation of the Irish language proper is that it's never even remotely what it looks like it would be in English. You'd think people in TV and movies would afford to hire someone who knew what they were doing, but so few of them do.

  • @SpamWarrior3000 It's like any language that uses the Roman alphabet, it makes up its own rules in regards to pronunciation.

  • where do you live, northern or southern ireland?

  • @JohnMcKurtZ Southern, the Republic.

  • @bobomcgraw northern ireland FTW!

  • @bobomcgraw so lucky, i would DIE to live in ireland :)

  • I actually saw something that says tv can not influence you accent.

  • look at his eyes at the beginging

  • Understand about offense. Live in Minnesota so we get told that we sound canadian and bunch of sterotypes. And we dont. You have a beautiful accent. Id like to chat with you! Take Care!

  • lol, nobody cares

  • you actually look like 40 it's crazy.

  • hahaha i doubt any1 thinks ur 16

  • Who gives a fuck about your life story? Stupid emo idiot. At what piont of your life did you adapt the false D4 accent? Was it because you were ashamed of your original accent? Why do idiots post videos on youtube with fake D4 accents trying to pass them off as Irish?

  • Mayo is the best place 2 be cuz im from dere

  • hey, how are you? My parents are also from Ireland. And they brought my grandparents here to america many years ago, and they are so offended by a lot of the publication of movies, etc. in supposed ireland. My grandfater use to just let a sigh out. I always thought it was funny when I was a little kid. But now that I listen to you, I get why he did get offended. My grandfather always wanted to bring us kids to ireland which they are all from cork. But he died before he could go home.

  • The southern accent that Hollywood gives most characters is quite offensive to some of us from the southern part of the US. It makes us sound quite uneducated. I enjoy your videos Darlin'. Very nifty.

  • awh

  • Wow!!

I don't hear any accent at all !!

You sound just like my teacher, he's Mexican and I am as well

  • @arwenfrann :DDDDDD cool

  • I love Irish accents...I am American, and I find the Irish accent sounds more suddle and relaxed then the accents in the UK, however they are much harder for me to do.

  • Comment removed

  • I noticed also that the irish roll there R's only a slight bit...like in the word before or somthing...thanks for the vide brother.

  • I love yah! LOOL

  • I've always adored the traditional Irish accent, though I'm not quite certain which was "Hollywood" irish, like you said.

I do like a bunch of irish folk music, though, and I've always been fascinated with the culture. This video really intrigued me. :D

  • lol accents are easy. Irish: softer consonants and use of different face muscles than the British. If you look at French peoples faces when they talk you'll catch on to what I mean. The muscles in your mouth (tongue placement etc.) develop with practice. Face muscles as well. Its no more than a question of practice; i.e. listening and watching Irish people speak in your favorite region, and practice speaking. It's a complex process that can be achieved with the right amount of care.

  • It's crazy how the Irish accent is so similar to the Newfoundland accent.

  • @WingLee51 If the population is descended from Irish settlers then that may explain it.

  • @bobomcgraw 80%+ Irish. We loves to drink too.

  • @WingLee51 Nothing crazy because that idiot in the video is using a false accent not an Irish accent.

  • Was 'twang ' the word you were looking for? People say you have an American twang to your voice?? That's the word we use in N.Ireland anyway

  • @sbarrow18 Yeah, that's the word.

  • fuckin dickhead

  • I thought you were older than 24 :L:L Sorry lol

  • please go back to america ur a shame to ireland

  • God, you are sooooooo hot!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Irish accents are incredibly sexy. American accents are ugly. We should trade haha.

  • @roguexwolf Deal. You keep the looks - we'll keep the brains. ;)

  • I want to live in Ireland one day, but I want to get my medical degree here in america and I have no clue what it takes to be a doctor in Ireland lol =]

  • YOUR WALLS ARE SO AWESOME

  • I like the Cork accent too :D but it's the hardest Irish accent for people from other countries

  • that hollywood Irish accent, we call it Leprachaun accent :D it's interestin', but not true, Leprachauns in Ireland were talkin' like that not the people :D (this was for all who still think Irish people speak like Leprachauns)

  • Don't listen to the rude people here!!!!

  • I am going to write a book that takes place in early Ireland and I want to learn a lot about Ireland I would love to.... I do have Irish blood in me ^w^

  • @bobomcgraw u do drone on a lot dont u!!!!!! the way u reflect on ur life and ur accent, is just so gay, no one cares and no one wants to hear ur life story!!! HOWEVER, ..... U ARE F*KIN FIT!! and ur accent is SEXY, CAN I HAVE U IN MY BED??? (I am a 19 year old male, Caucasian) ;) oh ya and caucasian means white! :)

  • @fleeshflush we know what means caucasian

  • your accent is fuckin hot :D

  • hhh well we are sinking too. but, whats been going on with Ireland?

  • Hey. I just wanted to ask you something. I am from Croatia (near Italy), so I learn English at school and I want to move to Ireland someday.

So, is there any way I can learn to speak with Irish accent?

p.s. Thanks for this video! :DD

  • @LucijaLiffey Practice I guess.

Listen to someone with an accent you like and just try to practice it.

  • @bobomcgraw I myself have been to Chicago! I'm a native of Shannon, but I live in Dublin now.

  • @bobomcgraw Oh, by the way, the word you're looking for is diaspora. I have a touch of American in my accent as well.

  • @LucijaLiffey You were sayiin yu wanted to move there sommeday.. am yeah.. well I'm Irish.. but u don't need to know the language :P we mainly talk english ..

  • @LucijaLiffey

Why the hell do you want to come here ?

This fucking ship is SINKING !

    Stay in Croatia.

  • @LucijaLiffey lol we know where Croatia is :D anyway you can watch some Irish movies or speak with some Irish people on facebook, myspace, twitter, skype, windows live messenger and you'll learn it, or when you come here in Ireland you can learn it by livin' here, but it's good to have some pre-knowledge

  • @aceto1900 Hahha. Well I'm from Croatia too and a lot of people dont know where Croatia is. I've been in Cambridge couple of months ago and I was: I'm from Croatia. From where? Well, it's near Italy. so

  • @Clocky19 well, that people must be very stupid, I know every country in the world it is ridiculous to say: Where is Croatia. stupid people, they don't have basic geography knowledge

  • @LucijaLiffey Ja sam isto iz Hrvatske! WUhu :) hahha I want to move to Ireland someday too

  • @LucijaLiffey

Ja sam isto iz Hravcke! :) hahha

I ja se želi preselit u Irsku. možemo skupa :D

  • @LucijaLiffey Sorry fella, no theres not, there is no possible way off you learning an irish accent, you could learn irish but not the accent, not a hope lol...tbh people over here would take offence if you tried....

  • @LucijaLiffey You cant really learn an Irish accent, but once you move there over the year your accent will start to change and adapt.

  • @LucijaLiffey Don't bother the country's fucked! :D

  • @LucijaLiffey Cro-Asian hahaha

  • I really enjoyed this video. It's fun to hear the many different stories that you talk about. I feel almost as though it's self reflective, and like it helps show the evolutionary curve of your accent based on surrounding people, events, and your thoughts. It also shows mental processing, and it's just really enjoyable to make these observations as you narrate through your existence. 24 years well spent.

  • eegit

  • i love you accent :)

  • I like you.

  • FUCK YOU

  • HEY IM FROM MAYO! WHERE IN MAYO R U FROM?

  • okay we dont need 2 here ur life story like

  • i'm french and i can'tv make a difference with someone with an irish accent and someone without ... scottish accent is easier to spot...

  • you look about 47

    wanker

  • I'm from ireland but I have been raised in the states so I don't have an accent since I have moved back and all my friends give me a hard time because I sound american and now I'm 14 and I'm never going to have an accent

  • marry me?

  • lol @ 'when they were finished' (reference to your mother giving birth to you)

  • I'm twenty-four.... but i still live with my parents.

  • father ted

  • I'm apperently most Irish, so I find out. Decided to look up a little bit about it. Really found. Your video interesting. :)

  • yay my family is from mayo

  • your supah cute:D

  • typical Galway crap. Too much to do, too much booze and too far from Dublin.

    Booooooring.

Why on god's earth did you post this?

  • Dont lister to SKOOBZ09! If they dont like your videos they dont have to listen to them!

I thought your video was really helpful because Im trying to pick up the Irish accent for a role play/renactment thing Im doing and this was very useful.

Thank you and take care. x

  • @SKOOBZ09 Do you have any friends or do you just like trolling on Youtube?

    Worthless worthless peon.

  • @SKOOBZ09 Seriously, grammar.

  • @bobomcgraw have you no better argument than complaining about someone's grammar? that's kinda lame, it just means SKOOBZ09 is right

  • @etabetapi Yes, that is what it means.

    /sarcasm

  • with beard = 30+ years old

    with no beard = 15-18

  • @SKOOBZ09 if you don't think his videos are interesting then why are you watching them? Idiot.

  • get off youtube the state of u! u are an embarrsament to ireland!

  • @SKOOBZ09 I'm an 'embarrsament'?

  • @bobomcgraw yes why are u putting up these stupid pointless videos???

  • @SKOOBZ09 It's spelt 'you'.

The real question is 'what is it to you?'.

  • @bobomcgraw have u ever heard of txt talkin i.e 'u' = 'you', 'are'='r'... do u understand????? Whats it to me?? its to do wit me cos im irish and ur(your) an embarrasment to the irish people!

  • @SKOOBZ09 Really, I guess i should be honored the voice of the Irish people deigned to converse with me in very poor English.

  • @SKOOBZ09 Seriously, you are an embarrasment...

  • @SKOOBZ09 I'm an 'embarrsament'?

  • why would you even bother to make a video to explain the way you talk? Makes me think it is a put on accent if you have to defend it. I have spent most of my years on the road and I speak with an irish Accent when I speak english.

  • My friend says that when I start talking, like really talking (I don't talk A LOT because I'm shy) that I start speaking with an Irish accent.

I notice it every now and then but supposedly I do it like 70% of the time I talk and I have no idea where I could have picked it up.

  • wa about the dub accdent i get slagged for it all the time like jaysus nd all tha kinda stuff add tha in

  • What the hell are you carrying on about?

  • I herd dublin is a ruff town M8..

  • Sounds to me like Hollywood has a lot to learn. I'd hear the guys from "Kangaroo Jack" try and talk like the Aussies and I was like "Oh heaven have mercy!" although I didn't know why it really rubbed me the wrong way since I'm American. All I knew was that if I'd ever gone there I wouldn't mind how they talk but I couldn't bear to risk looking like a fool. I guess I've always felt like I'd be overstepping my bounds or walking on territory that isn't my own by trying to speak in someone else's...

  • Your hot XD Nd Ireland sucks :P

  • @GalwayChick

If you hate Ireland move to America specifically California and you can live in my closet. haha I wouldn't mind stuffing a Galway Chick in there. Make sure you bring your sexy accent with you :)

  • @Metalitron12 Erm You have to drink at the age of 21 in america ireland its 18 .. Ur country doesnt .I only hate ireland cuz of da stupid knacks lolz

  • @GalwayChick

lol Ive been drinking since I was 15. Most of us Americans don't follow that law or condone it either. The law was meant to keep alcohol out of the hands of teenagers. Not adults. If you are 18 you are an adult but it cannot legally be sold to you until you are 21 to prevent irresponsible people from buying it for kids. For example most people under 21 will buy it for there friends who are under 18. So thats why the law is the way it is here. But we all still drink anyway. lol

  • @Metalitron12 wel atleast ur tryin to be irish its the way we roll XD

  • @GalwayChick

Yeah hahaha. Some Americans are fuckin stupid though and claim to be Irish when they never even lived where your from. lol But your right. We will drink anyway. This is the way it is for us Americans. We will drink at any age and if we aren't served we will stick a 50 Caliber Handgun in a persons face so they stop being assholes. Real Americans believe at drinking under 21. If you can serve the country at 18 then you should be able to drink. Nuff said :)

  • @GalwayChick

By the way, Guinness Extra Stout is probably my favorite beer! haha Your culture is so great!

  • i love irishh accentss :DD

  • the cork accent is just annoying, its why the "hollywood" irish accent is..the way it is. irritating, false and changing pitch, nearly every second word,so it sounds like the person is trying to yodel rather than speak....up galway :D

  • @rokchick01

If you think the cork accent is annoying you obviously have never stumbled onto the hindu mans 7eleven accent.

  • fag

  • Side partning = gay.

  • Its funny, I find myself slipping into an Irish (mostly cork) accent and Ive lived in America my whole life. Its fun when someone asks where Im from and I say Wisconsin. They get such a weird look on there face. I am Irish though. (as well as many other things) But the Irish in me seems to stand out alot more. Not just in looks or in speech but just in the way I act completely. :-)

  • you look 12.

  • Lol I live in Scotland but I'm English/Irish and I don't talk Irish or English, I speak a mixture or Irish English but mostly Scottish...

  • Why couldn't u be a red head.....lol jk

  • listen to de cork accent. i can understand it but loads of ppl cant. tis fear funi listenin ta dem. i love kilkenny! :) hon de cats!

  • Why is this dude telling his life story?

  • ur gay,gay,gay,gay!!!!

  • im almost completly irish half of my family acually lives in ireland and i was born in boston MA i spend a lot of time with my cousins who were born in ireland and their mum has a heavy irish accent and they seemed to pick up on my accent pretty quick but no matter how hard i try i cant speak with that accent

  • I think you're very sexy Bob! A real cutie! I'm from Belfast and I'd love to see you taking on a Belfast accent and analysing that.

  • I think you have a very nice accent - sounds proper!

  • I think people in major cities have a tendency to loose the edge of their accents. I'm a Texan, and used to get so offended when I'd watch a movie and they would portray Texans as slow talkin, country hicks - nothing of what I hear everyday, but I live near Houston, a major city. But there are some who do have that twang, and I think people focus on that when they think of Texas. Went to Boston, not everyone talks like JFK, but if you hear that accent, you think of Boston.

  • You look a lot like my brother, as well Irish (as well as I), but he has a little bit less of an accent. I tend to find a little accent in my speech at times but I so wish I had a lot more of an Irish accent. Would It develop more if I were to listen to more Irish songs? As I notice, the more my friends listen to rap music, they talk with more of a slang. My friend whom listens to more rock he tends to have more of the "American" accent. Would it work for me if I were to listen to Irish songs?

  • @Bubba125332 I couldn't say, I don't really listen to Irish music.

  • @Bubba125332 you need to be born and live in ireland to get an irish accent listen to music isnt going to do shit for you.

  • @pekerdalton

you don't necesarrily need to be born in ireland. you just need to spend a long time there and eventually develop the style and the way they speak.

i was born in dublin but raised in america and i don't have an irish accent. but im 28 years old and i still pick up accents here in california. lol we never really stop picking up on the ways of others. remember the saying "you are what you hang around"

  • i love when you say may the road rise to meet you. i love irish accents and had to do one once for a show, and i barely did it justice. but i was happy for the little bit i got to do it. i wish i could actually speak like that. but it's beautiful to hear you talk :D

  • you're awesome and i love the irish accent, and just irish people in general. not the stereotyped rubbish that people come up with though.. its really cool that you explain bits about your background to people :) you accent rules :D x

  • I'm originally from Ireland... grew up in French-speaking Canada, and I only spoke English with my family, so as result I have a similar accent to yourself. Your accent is very crisp and clear. You DO have strong American elements mixed in with what sounds vaguely like a D4 Dub accent, though.

  • i am irish , lived here 21 years from cork , south ireland , and i dont have a strong accent like ? and im from the city , country ppl have very obvious accents

  • I was born in America and lived there till i was seven, moved over to ireland and am liveing here in galway for the last 9 years im 16 now, im suprised you have a bit of an american twang to ur accent and u only lived in america till you were 3!!!! Ive lost my American accent ages ago and now have a real galway cultchy accent lol, its weird the way ive lost mine completely yet i lived in america longer than you, and youve still got a bit of an accent and youve lived here in ireland longer den me

  • nice, feelin mayo haha my lot r frm knock

  • u do have a slight American accent its northern sounding

  • Chicago :D
