Let's take it a step further- Clark mentioned MCCain's military service wasn't executive... GRANT was a high ranking General and hero of his time...and he sucked as President, and had one of the most corrupt administrations. Carter graduated Naval Academy and had a largely failed Presidency.

I was in the military and saw how zombified the general public were when it came to military worship. I had all kinds of random people 'thank me' for my 'service' and cops letting me out of tickets, yet they had no clue what i did nor what my record was, so long as I had BDU's on, I got the good treatment. it really kind of pissed me off instead of make me feel proud. I'm not proud of seeing herd mentality even if it's my benefit. I was not a hero. just as Mccain isn't presidential.

No one I ever met in the Army was comfortable with people coming up to them and 'thanking' them. mccain's POW status is completely, utterly nullified when he goes around saying it doesn't matter how long we're in Iraq and doesn't care how long it lasts.

He might have forgotten the hardship, the way some women forget the pain of childbirth when they think of the joy of having more babies. I now have a small, nagging fear of ever being in that kind of pain again, but I don't actually remember it. If McCain has managed to mentally nullify his experience, he is a dangerous man who should never be in a position to order military action.

I seem to remember the US casualties for that War, the Bosnian War was one dead soldier. The region remains at peace. Gen. Clark managed to get shot, four times, and continued to command his men while wounded. McCain's "success" in the military is do far more to military politics - two Admirals in his family, than to any real ability. General Clark earned his stars without any family connections.

I was in the military and saw how zombified the general public were when it came to military worship. I had all kinds of random people 'thank me' for my 'service' and cops letting me out of tickets, yet they had no clue what i did nor what my record was, so long as I had BDU's on, I got the good treatment. it really kind of pissed me off instead of make me feel proud. I'm with you on that. I joined in jan 2001 and remember after sept, it was insane. I had a guy salute me in a gas station. i never liked it. Infact, we talked about this all the time. No one I ever met in the Army was comfortable with people coming up to them and 'thanking' them. There's no way to explain the awkwardness to someone without military service. the end of jarhead is about the best approximation, when the actor is looking at the vet on the bus with alot of mixed feelings.

He might have forgotten the hardship, the way some women forget the pain of childbirth when they think of the joy of having more babies. I experienced terrible pain, the kind that makes you actually want to die, because of a medical condition. I now have a small, nagging fear of ever being in that kind of pain again, but I don't actually remember it. If McCain has managed to mentally nullify his experience, he is a dangerous man who should never be in a position to order military action.

When Gen. Clark led our forces into Bosnia, we defeated and helped to pacify a region that contained mortal enemies of differing religions and ethnicities. I seem to remember the US casualties for that War, the Bosnian War was one dead soldier. The region remains at peace. Gen. Clark is a true hero in the eyes of honest Americans and revered in the Balkans. ChickenHawks, GO TO HELL!!!

The FACT is: Being shot down doesn't qualify you to be a hero, nor does being a POW. It's the fact that he served our country in the armed forces, such as every man and woman serving today is, which makes him a hero in our eyes.
Now, with that said, being a war hero DOES NOT pre-qualify you to be PRESIDENT!!!

I agree with you if they want to support McCain than they should go fight. If we stay in Iraq another 5 years a draft will most likely come up by then because most of our soldiers that I hear from don't know why we are there. Even our president can't make up his mind why we are there. I'd like to add if they do start a draft I think everyone under 35 on welfare that is able should be drafted as well

Comparing McCain to Clark is pathetic. McCain - near the bottom of his class. Clark - West Point Valedictorian and Rhodes Scholar. McCain - managed to crunch five planes - not all combat missions. Clark managed to get shot, four times, and continued to command his men while wounded. McCain's "success" in the military is do far more to military politics - two Admirals in his family, than to any real ability. General Clark earned his stars without any family connections.

I might also add -- that although Clark had an outstanding record in VietNam, you'll recall he didn't make a big deal of that when he was running for President.
On the other hand, McCain wants to act like his military record qualifies him to be President.
