The first time I ever saw this video was on BET back in '02 , on a show called "Out The Box". That show would display videos of artists (indie & mainstream) in all genres from Rock to Nu soul and ever since that day I have been hooked on Kimmy ever since.
All I can say is, I love Kim Hill. She sings true to her art and what she is, a Black Woman. The industry can say all they want about how she was not 'black enough' (ha, that's a joke), and that mainstream is what sells, so be it. I'm a black man, and I don't care how much a person that is not of color wears baggy jeans or speaks broken english/ebonics, or tries to pimp when he/she walks, he/she CANNOT be Blacker than me!!!! It's totally IMPOSSIBLE!
well i dnt think ppl should hate on songs like where is the love did you know it has its own webpage its gud message got to many people and on there 2nd album wit fergie they had a song with the king of funk JAMES BROWN who was a big fan they also worked wit Michael Jackson BONO and sting they can do all types of music now but i dnt understand why there lyrics are so dumb and why they created my humps
No matter how many albums they sell, they are still a shitty, cheesy pop group. They are just lucky that there are a lot of people in this world with shitty taste in music.
I see where she was coming from. The stuff she was doing with the Peas before they switched, had substance. This pop stuff their doing is mindless but very lucritive.
But in all that is just a possibility in itself as well Gonna still bang Kims sounds in my jeep. I was (probably still) signed to an indie record company and they did nothing for me. I cut all ties with them and the producer I was working with. I felt hurt and used but I learned a very valuable lesson. If you want instant gratification sign with the biggies and be in debt (unless you know somebody and they allow you to be you) Or just release your own with your own funds and be spiritually free
When making music it comes down to what sells the most and that's mainstream. When your trying to get that dolla dolla bill yo you go where the money is. The BEP can show their true selves through self released albums to stay tru still. I loved who they were before but there was a good chance that they might have been dropped from their label if they didn't do what they had to. Kimmy was good to stay true to herself but if she moved in the other direction her pockets would be fatter right now.
Black eyed peas was a real hip group when this woman was with them. They could have been like the fugees if they stuck with their original sound. Now they are just a cheesy pop group.
I've met Kim Hill as well and this woman is really down to earth and she is beautiful. Kill Hill actually left the BEP because she saw the direction they were going in. Respect to this sista for refusing to go pop.
When a music company tells you what music to make, what image to portray, and you are under a legally binding contract that doesn't allow you to flourish as a human being, I question if it is really worth it. I mean, really...
It's not a question of right or wrong. Right and wrong can be perceived differently due to the observer. What I'm saying is that either way, there are sacrifices made. To live true to your art and do it straight from the heart, you may have to sacrifice fame and fortune because you become a slave to the game by signing contracts and having to keep up with the "Jones" (or the "Combes" as P. Diddy said). But in fame and fortune, you sacrifice artistic freedom and have to be a pop slave 24/7.
Yes, I should have, thanks. My beef is mainly with the limitations of the industry from trying to keep up with the trends and formulas that eventually die out. Right now, the industry is suffering because many people are just downloading albums instead of buying them. This is the perfect time for artists to sell their own music instead of signing record deals because you can market worldwide via the net and the streets while not having to be a slave to a record company and tabloid magazines.
I had the pleasure of seeing Him Hill perform a few times and even met her out and about in LA a couple of times. She is a BEAUTIFUL person both inside and out and is a TRUE artist unlike the BEP's if she was willing to shake her tits at everybody like Fergie. Check out her track "The Real Hip Hop" from the Suga Hill album. Can't wait for the next disc..Pharoah's Daughter, does anyone know if it's available anywhere yet?
I finally found her. And it was random as hell. I've always wondered what her name was, I feel kinds lsme though, Whatever. Why did you leave BEP? I know why but I enjoyed them so much more before. **Sigh** Oh well, now I can get the cd.
How can Justin Timberlake be considered an "Urban" artist, but Kim Hill isn't "black" enough according to the major labels? I honestly don't understand that. She left BEP because she knew that they were selling out, enter Fergie's garbage butt and there you have it. I hope this sista gets her just due.
