Hello shamrock7474 - I just telephoned my friend in Victoria, and he tells me that the City there is still dumping all human waste directly into the ocean. He said that Esquamalt now has a treatment plant. So, I guess you are wrong "but don't feel bad", as it is normal for Victorians to deny everything negative about that city.
My wife and I moved out of Victoria three years ago, we lived on Quadra close to downtown. We thought it would be a great place to retire, but all the homeless people and bottle collectors was a bit depressing. The car theft problems too. I knew about the cruse ship poop sucking because I was a bus driver who took the ships passengers on scenic tours. Yes, I did make some friends there, but they are products of their depressed environment, and do not realize there is more prosperity elsewhere.
Well, I'm glad you've moved on.... I wish we could just keep this island a secret from everyone. Way too many people with too much money moving here now and causing it to become a playground for the rich. Still, I've been all over the world and I could never live anywhere else. This is pure paradise.
Hello Shamrock - We are all products of our environment, and most people find ways to exist where we are born, such as in Newfoundland, which has been the home of the minimum wage and unemployment for generations. If I was born in Victoria I'd most likely learned how to survive there. Every young person who has replied to me has indicated that there are few opportunities available to them on the island, and plan to leave after graduation.

Are there any people more friendly and accommodating that the Newfoundlanders, love those people. I moved to Victoria almost 10 years ago now after living all over the world. Finally found my Utopia.

Mmm, have lived here all my adult life and have wondered the beaches of the southern island for all of them.
I have never seen a turd wash up on the beach, although have spotted a few condoms and tampon applicators.
I'm sure as we move forward in time these will be some of the issues we takle, but until then, enjoy the area, it's incredible.
