It was such a mystery hearing this song as a kid, in the cheat menu. It always made me a bit sad, it almost sounds like the music you would hear if Sonic lost the battle and didn't blow up the Death Egg.

They should fix up this level and add it as an extra to the next sonic game to come out as something for the older gamers fans to enjoy and a 16 bit of retro history for the newer gamers to experience.

We bought every magazine, every cheat book, some of us even wrote letters to SEGA (they never wrote back), we were desperate to find it. When a zone with the same name was in Sonic & Knuckles, we were sure we'd somehow heard SEGA's future plans. Imagine our vindication upon growing up and finding the Sonic 2 BETA ROM. How weird that we even KNEW about this zone...

this theme song gave me the sense of royalty, mystery and sadness for some reason. it's a really weird mixture of feelings, but it works out somehow. i really love this theme, i gotta say it's one of my most favourite out of all the sonic 2 themes =)

I think all of the scrapped levels are better then literally every other level that was used. Especially Hidden Palace. That is my favorite Sonic level to be in any game, even though it wasn't in a sonic game.
@Joeyc5499 You're right! This, Genocide City, and dust hill are levels that were removed. There is a Game genie code to actually play this zone (The code is: 'ACLA-ATD4', then you need to go to level select, and pick death egg, and you play Hidden Palace), but it's all glitched up, if you want to go anywhere, you NEED to use Debug mode.

You can't. This was originally going to be a level you play when you get all 7 Chaos Emeralds and you have to go receive the power to be Super Sonic. This level was scrapped due to time constraints.

This was only playable in the Japanese pre-release...only a handful actually saw this zone in full. It's before Oil Ocean, 3 Zones long and it's even harder than Metropolis. The boss is a bed of randomly uprising spines, one of which holds a switch Sonic hits with a spindash...10 hits to win. You dont even see Robotnik anywhere in the entire area. Info from EGM Video.

this theme song gave me the sense of royalty, mystery and sadness for some reason. it's a really weird mixture of feelings, but it works out somehow. i really love this theme, i gotta say it's one of my most favourite out of all the sonic 2 themes =)

For some reason it reminds me of "You Can Hear the Cry of the Planet" off of the Final Fantasy VII OST; the area where Cloud ends up burying Aeris in the lake. Nostalgia can hurt bad but yeah, its everything you said and then some. But the melancholy can be a nice, peaceful type of sorrow, if you will. Oh Nobuo, you Genius. And every Member of Sonic Team = Absolute LEGENDS.

How intriguing, and mysterious...wonderful music to a level that was so "Hidden", it actually "Never Was" at all...I'm sure I would have loved it. Every Gamer 25 or older has been there through some absolutely amazing times and I'm proud to say that Sonic will always mean a great deal to me, concerning my Childhood. Sometimes memories are so rousing, the nostalgia actually hurts. Long live the 90's Gamer!

I think all of the scrapped levels are better then literally every other level that was used. Especially Hidden Palace. That is my favorite Sonic level to be in any game, even though it wasn't in a sonic game.

@Joeyc5499 You're right! This, Genocide City, and dust hill are levels that were removed. There is a Game genie code to actually play this zone (The code is: 'ACLA-ATD4', then you need to go to level select, and pick death egg, and you play Hidden Palace), but it's all glitched up, if you want to go anywhere, you NEED to use Debug mode.

You can't. This was originally going to be a level you play when you get all 7 Chaos Emeralds and you have to go receive the power to be Super Sonic. This level was scrapped due to time constraints.

@vizzed4life It's really sad, honestly, all of these scrapped levels, including Hidden Palace, that never made it into the final game. I actually really like the idea of going too hidden palace after collecting the 7 chaos emeralds, It just truly saddens me seeing all of the potential these scrapped levels had, but were never fully implemented into the game.

This was only playable in the Japanese pre-release...only a handful actually saw this zone in full. It's before Oil Ocean, 3 Zones long and it's even harder than Metropolis. The boss is a bed of randomly uprising spines, one of which holds a switch Sonic hits with a spindash...10 hits to win. You dont even see Robotnik anywhere in the entire area. Info from EGM Video.
