  • ...given that this is LL, he should sound worse, but it is not all that great...you get too much of that shrill-indifferent LL tone, like he is SO indifferent toward the music...how could Gergiev, who is, after all, no fool, sound positive about THIS?...well, it's all "the inside-music" politics, right?..

  • I hate this picture. It makes me laugh while I try to enjoy the music

  • Yahhhhh!!! Just when I was about to compliment stagesix for not cutting this off at the stump (aka the recapitulation) (s)he goes and cuts three measures before the exciting marcato section ends!!!

Can you spell frustration??? Incidentally, guys and gals--if you're going to upload, no reason to cut these ten-minutes movements into half anymore. The limit is 15 minutes-has been for quite a while. YouTube started with a 10-minute limit anyway so please try to pick a quiet place to make the cut.

  • great performance .

    funny picture also.

  • Pianiste génial qu'est Lang Lang. Fabuleuse interprétation.

  • the only other pianist who ever dared play those famous opening chords in that majestically sumptuous way was Artur Rubinstien in the last recording of the 2nd with Ormandy............it was groundbreaking and I cannot find the cd of it

  • Or minor, i can't see if he presses a black key or a white one, or boths

  • He is doing a D Major on the picture

  • sorry, I had to turn this off 40 seconds in.

  • @gummibearko Me too! Unfortunately this idiot "hound" keeps compelling me back!

  • 26 people think they can perform it better xD.

lang lang.. i really enjoyed your performance :D. very fresh at some points. ( first time ive heard those parts like that )

  • and anyone else feel this recording is a bit too piano centered? i feel the piano accompaniment tends to drown out the orchestra, even when the orchestra carries the melody. Either that or I have a shitty sound card.

  • @WTBbboyNAME I agree. That's Lang Lang playing Rachmaninov for you.

  • ashkenazy ftw!

  • I love how the beginning is slow

  • the clown finally knew how to play!

  • @thunder123bah He's always knew how to play, but the public just didn't give him the benefit of the doubt to mature.

  • I thought I dislike Lang Lang interpretations but this is an exemption.

  • все замечательно, и Ланг Ланг и оркестер, спасибо!

  • Thank you, super

  • well, i have heard rachmaninov playing this piece himself,

    wonderfull.

This is a totally different interpretation.

To honest, i prver this interpretation over the original from the composer.

probably because of the recordeing quality...

  • @hanamano37 I think "all the great pianists who ever lived" weren't that closed minded. This interpretation brings the concerto to a whole new level, and I can't see anything bad about it. The adagio sustenuto is (almost) perfectly played, and the rubato and dynamics are great. I dislike some Lang Lang perfomances but I can tell (with no shame) when I do love something he plays.

  • @hanamano37 Funny how you want to speak for Rach himself.

  • @dasteufelhund Anyone says they prefer this over Rach's playing HIS Rach 2 are clueless - a sad commentary on how far down piano performance has fallen. OK, I deleted my initial comment, just a reaction. Anyway you judge this, it is bargain-basement compared to Rach playing it.

  • @hanamano37 Rach was an accomplished pianist, but that doesn't restrict others to interpret it even better, which this is what we have here, offered by Lang. To say the composer plays his own piece constitutes the performance as the authoritative version, is simply naive. I also prefer Argerich's playing over Rach, I guess you accept Rach's standard as the standard for a world of piano giants out there, substandard mentality.

  • @dasteufelhund When you said this performance is better than Rach's playing it - that blew my mind. You prove yourself to have substandard intellect and a total lack of musical understanding and/or appreciation. What will be your next comment, that Lang is a better pianist than Rachmaninoff? Only a total fool will say that.

  • @hanamano37 Lang is no fool and to say no one can surpass the performance that of the composer, is both naive and ignorant. There is no proof of any sort, to back that dumb shit comment of yours, that Lang is inferior of a performer to not only Rachmaninov, or anyone for that matter.

  • @dasteufelhund I am surprised they gave you internet priviledges in the insane asylum you live in.

  • @hanamano37 They sent me to show you the way.

  • @dasteufelhund You DO understand nobody is his right mind considers this to be superior to Rach playing it himself. For that matter, there is nobody out there who considers this performance by Lang to be more than just so so, many will says this sucks.

  • @hanamano37 Which part of my post about there are better interpretations of Rach's pieces by others than his own performance did you not understand? Your tactic of using so called "right mind" seemingly to justify your view, but what you posted tells us that you don't listen carefully enough or your don't listen enough. Sounds like you've failed at both.

  • @hanamano37 Additionally, if what I said was mind blowing to you, you should take this note as a hint for your limited brain and sorry ass to move on. You've circled the same point for over a month now, quite frankly you've yet to shown any mental competence to discuss performances.

  • @dasteufelhund I strongly recommend you get back on your meds, in the meantime STFU and/or jump in the nearest body of water, make a head start! Idiot!

  • @hanamano37 You've made no good points thus far, why keep running your jibs trying to convince others you have a point?

  • @hanamano37 Gergiev who conducted this discussed performance practice in an interview, in regard Lang's approach and execution of Concerto was groundbreaking and outstanding. To come back to your limited world, that a good indicator one has nothing more useful to say, is to buddy up with others to justify his none sense.

  • LANG LANG : SHAME ! SHAME ! SHAME ! THIS IS NOT RACHAMNINOFF ! IT IS A VIOLENT HAMMER ON KEYBOARD ! ! ! ! ! WHERE IS SOUL OF THIS GREAT MASTERWORK ? SHAME ! SHAME ! SHAME !

  • The out of tune unisons / false beats / bad pedaling or whatever is going on with the instrument is unfortunate.

  • 1:33秒(39小節) fa+la 力度不當吧~

    2:17~18秒(62小節) 樂句處理的草率... 在憋尿嗎?^ ^

  • Gerghiev rocks !!

  • Love the preformance, nicely done!

However, the wiki page of 'Sergei Rachmaninoff' says that his name is spelled like i just placed it, not with the V but with an F, minor mistake, and im no Russian so could be me.

Just a minor detail ;) doenst affect music at all.

  • @alaspeanutbutter when i type "Rachmaninov" it comes as a mistake in my computer and auto corrects is to "Rachmaninoff" XD

  • @alaspeanutbutter

Rachmaninoff is just some other spelling. Both Rachmaninov and Rachmaninoff are correct, because the Russians use an other alphabet there are multiple spellings for their names in the latin alphabet (which is this one we use now). For example take Tschaikowsky, in my language it is spelled as Tschaikovsky (with a v instead of a w). Hope it helps :P :)

  • I have to say....Kissin's Rach was, still is, my favorite. both 2nd and 3rd. but Lang Lang's base notes in the beginning got me soooo amped. My Klipsch Speakers were going crazyyyyyyyyyyyy This is lovely.

  • The problem is that he plays it too brightly.

I cannot feel a deep bitter despair from his playing..

No doubt that it is a beautiful performance. very romantic.

But still, i would like to hear more depth from Lang Lang.

  • I cried because of beauty... Heartbroking beauty....

  • 3:46-5:00 <3

  • Too fast for my liking from 6:51-7:13, but overall I enjoy this.

  • he is pointing as if to say... you are the light of my inspiration. I think. Seriously wtf is up with the picture. Amazing interpretation btw.

  • I think I like this recording, especially bringing out the bass notes. However I think that they shouldn't be quite as held out so as to give way to the upper register notes. I also think the upper register was a little unclear, but overall I think this is one of my favorite Lang Lang recordings

  • Too slow intro. Too dominating bass-notes.

    Otherwise a fine job.

  • @DJJOHN92 Some of us like dominating bass notes. Sensational.

  • @DJJOHN92 A matter of taste, really... Nothing serious.

  • Awesome...I've never heard such a beautiful interpretation of Rachmaninoff concerto !!!!!!!!! woow !

  • The opening chords... you can hear the bells of Moscow tolling, absolutely breathtaking.

  • This is the very best that I've ever heard. Bravo, Lang Lang.

  • 出だしすごく遅い・・・。

  • this is a great interpretation

  • Richter owns this concerto No 2, seriously.

    .

Just my opinion but most of you will agree with me.

  • @alexggable

I agree that you cannot beat Richter, but you can play it differently. And isn't Lang Lang different enough for you? For me? he is.

  • I'm convinced, forget the who's best, there all a little different. This performance is great.

  • intresting interpretation of a classic. Its a little to Bang Bang for me, however i love the dynamics around 2:25-2:36.

  • Awesome! Well played! But a little bit too slow, isn't it?

  • @Arminonly09 not slow, you just need to improve your emotional reception

  • @T1carus yea, lang lang needs to improve his "emotional reception" as well

  • Vladimir Ashkenazy's rendition is so much better...

  • ...sei Grande Lang Lang....

  • I don't like this interpretation... In my opinion I think Hélène Grimaud's version is better...

  • but you gotta love that picture LOL

  • one of lang langs better works.

excellent power on the accents. probably my most favorite interpretation of this piece.

  • love this piece especially the very beginning

  • Thank you for sharing such lovely piece of Rachmaninoff's music. Could you tell me, when it was recorded?

  • 2005, by gramophon

  • lokopiano will love this one...

  • I hate watching Lang Lang, but love listening to him.

When I finally find simple audio file of his, the video is submitted with a bizarre picture.

    Why?

Hearing Rach 2 with that painfull smile on the face...

  • Thanks for sharing. Glad to see someone has finally posted the full Rach 2 by Lang Lang.
