this is still easily the best alamo film made flat out, nothing close: and this scene is amazing as for those who dont like Hunnicutt here well, for me he is most entertaining. as for historical accuracy forget it, I wager the real guys all of them, were far less cinematic than any of the versions. But for a movie this one is fabulous

Interestingly both Hunnicut & Wayne who each portrayed Davy Crockett would go on to appear together in El Dorado.

I'm a baby-boomer so I'm always going to favor Fess Parker.But Hunnicutt is my 2nd favorite Davy Crockett.

i'm a big John Wayne Fan, but i agree with you. The Duke as Colonel Crockett wasn't a good idea. normaly he's decision was to play Sam Houston, but UA did say no, so Duke decided to play Crockett in his own movie.
