I'll probably get flamed for "not respecting the P-47" for saying this, but compared to a modern high-performance, retractable single, like, say, a Bonanza, the cockpit of the P-47 surprisingly isn't all that complicated. Except for the tailwheel lock, the hand pump, and of course, the guns, there's pretty much a modern counterpart to every control (and I have flown a Bonanza variant called a Debonair).
I like the quote " the turbo system looks more complicated than it is" uhh no really it's extremely complicated! lol!! Matter of fact I know of one P47 that is still flying where the owners went out of their way to remove it because it was so troublesome.
@777cascade I agree. Graceful, elegant and murderous if you were on the receiving end of an F4U's six .50 cals. But my father, who flew F4Us during WWII, always insisted that the best fighter of the war was the Focke Wolf 190.
This might also be called "How to light well", that's one thing the old black and white film forced Hollywood to do, something too easily forgotten with cheap video cameras these days.
yep - as the guy on avweb said - these are addictive! I need some sleep so I need to step away from the nerd-box! oh cummon one more? I wonder if this guy went on to do those sex-ed videos after the war? he he he. Given the baby boom I suspect the audience was not paying much attention.
damn u figure for a regular prop plane that flies near 500 and can go 30,000 passenger jets seem a little less impressive...

If the propeller is run electrically, then what is the purpose of the gas powered engine?

@isukaman im sure some one told you already but they meant it is controlled not powered by electricity

Imagine that Heini's name would have been Bubi Hartmann with 352 confirmed victories, you probably would have called him Sir Heini.
revedoli 2 years ago
No, I would have called him a Nazi on the losing side of WWII.
