needless to say, this is just fucking breathtaking. but does anyone else prefer the moment before this when michael comes to the horrible realisation that fredo is the traitor whilst that surreal music plays in the background? i love that moment through and through.
Fucking traitor, pinche traidor de mierda. You never can go against your own family. Fredo deserves that and much, much more. Unfortunately only cost him his miserable, pitty life.
Why Pacino was snubbed for Best actor baffles me. He should've won Best Supporting actor for Godfather 1 and he should have won Best Actor for part 2. Fuck the Oscars.
All you "HOMOPHOBE" comment makers its the kiss of death u fukkn failures!!! Thats the difference in being seen on tv and watching tv.....Fukkn scrotums!!!!
I once had a scary Italian guy talking to me about how to not be intimidated by gays, but if an Italian kisses you then you should be scared lol... That guy is a scary mother fucker. Hope I never get the kiss of death from him or Pacino haha
lol, you're too funny. Happenes to the best of them. Look at Tom Cruise. In the 80's to mid 90's he was staring in Oscar worthy films, now he does these weird hibby-jibby type films. Ahhh, sai la vie
I thought that Kiss was intense, you can really feel the betrayal, sadness, anger and the love he felt for his brother through that kiss. best kissing scene ever!
@MrThrasamund he CAN change his mind, he just never did, so you're telling me that he ended up forgiving him because it's his brother and he loves him but he can't change his mind and gets filled with regret in the Godfather part 3 because he gave him a lousy 2 second kiss? bullshit on your theory
@panchibilin because fredo plotted against him with johnny ola and went behind his back whoch almost resulted in michaels and his family being killed at their home, and even though fredo didnt want michael to die he was just trying to make somethign of himself because he felt forgotten and underappreciated in the family. but michael cant forgive himand has to killl him because he is a danger . kind of like how he had to kill tessio in the first movie .
Fredo betrayed Michael by secretly working with these bigshots Hyman Roth and Johnny Ola who wanted to kill his brother. They eventually tricked Fredo to come work with them and Fredo had no knowledge that their plan was to eliminate Michael, they promised him something else. Michael was almost killed. Later, Michael finds out that Fredo had betrayed him and in this sequence he gives him the ''kiss of death'' which means Fredo's fate is sealed.
@Ronaldinhoo11 com'om dude, don't give them the incentive to not watch the movie, everyone should be made to watch this before they ever talk about another movie, the film's the standard from which all criticism should be levied
Man, that looked like some tongue action :P I didn't even know this was a classic moment in the movie. I saw this scene and was blown away by Al Pacino's performance, and went to go search to see if anyone thought the same. Guess I'm not alone :)
my God that scene at the mother's funeral where his sister is literally begging for Fredo's life and Mike doesn't say one word then goes out to see Fredo and hugs him and then slowly looks up and gives the order for Fredo's death God that scene made the movie for me!! It sent chills up my spine!
Am I the only one that thinks that a man kissing another man isn't gay at all? In fact, if anything it makes them more manly? Especially in this scene!
Michael already warned Fredo not to take sides with anyone against the family (when Fredo took side with Mo Green in The Godfather Part I). But what did Fredo do? In The Godfather Part II, he took side with Hyman Roth.
Fredo was the weakest link, the dumbest and the most vulnerable. He almost got Michael and Kay killed.
Michael didn't have to kill Fredo. He could've just took away his power and kept an eye on him. Killing him eventually fucked everything up for Micheal and the family.
@lsufa Have you seen the movies at all? Killing fredo meant that he stayed in power and that the corleone family could prosper, it would have been seen as a weakness had he not killed him and eventually lost everything.
Seeing this as a kid I instantly saw it as a violent act, my brother and I fought all the time, but it wasn't until later on that I learned about the "Kiss of Death". Fredo had this coming since he dropped the gun at his father's shooting.
the moral of the godfather part two, was pursuit of power and vengeance destroyed Michael Corleone and caused him to wreck his family just as vendetta and violence brought misery and desolation to large portions of Sicily. Michael Corleone should have listened to his sister and forgave Fredo.
Vengeance against loved ones doesn't work- it backfires. You might as well dig two graves, like the oriental proverb suggests.
@thebobbalo1: it's the kiss of death, a Sicilian sign used by Mobsters basically guarenteeing your death by there hand. For example the kiss before he told Fredo "I know it was you". But Michael waited till the passing of his mother to carry out the hit stating "He is not to be harmed while my mother is alive." But when she passed due to moral confusion and guilt he orded the hit rather than doing it himself, probably why_ Fredo didn't see it coming.
I've been hearing something about a movie called the "G_dfather" from which this clip was taken. Apparently it came out a number of years ago. I heard it was good, but I am skeptical. I will let everyone know how it goes.
Michael was a jerk. Yes Fredo made a dumb mistake. He made a side deal behind michaels back but he didnt mean to be a pawn in a plan to assassinate michael. Fredo was just too stupid and talks too much. That was why he wasnt allowed to become the Don before the younger Michael. He was too stupid. Michael didnt have to kill him. Take away all of his power as Underboss, keep an eye on him and banish him from having any more connection to the family business. Thats all he had to do.
@Frank87 I dont think Vito would have either. He would have taken away all of Fredos power within the family business and have him watched at all times but he wouldnt have killed him.
i think it was fucked up and un-nesasarry to kill fredo. he sincerely apologized and didnt know about the plan to kill him. mike was to cocky in part 2
@jumbi100 what did Fredo think Yola was going to do with the layout of their compound. It was an incredibly dumb move and though I don't think Michael should have killed him... I understand him not believing Fredo
@DonaldMele agreed, i think Micheal was a douche in part 2. he regretted everything and totally changed in part 3 which made no since. i understand change but part 2 to 3 was an un-real alternation in mike's personality. too much haha
@jumbi100 Well i know it doesn't make any sense when he went from a douchebag to a peaceful Corleone. But if you read the Godfather's Return and the Godfather's Revenge (2 Books publised and released in 2004) the Author clears it up.
@darkprince216 he basically help michael's enemies try and kill him, so in mafia terms, he tried to kill michael and michael lived so now he has to die with everyone else.

@jumbi100 Since i wrote this i realised there were a few errors in it so it's not all correct. but what i wrote was all about part 2 nothing about part 3 :S sorry though anyway xx
we salvadorans never go fishing ,sorry,,we go hunting ,,anything that moves we shoot,so u better watch your back,,i guess u dont know nothing about salvatruchas....
