Hey stupid! Do not take about her English because her English is easy to understand. If you feel difficult to understand than I am sure you never talk with foreigner who's English as their second language. Maybe you live small small town in the USA. At least, visit big city then you can realize there are a log of ENGLISH in the US and in the world.
While the rest of you guys are here debating whether or not LOST accurately portrayed the uniquely-Confucian culture of Korea, I'm just enamored with Yunjin Kim's face. What a beautiful woman!
She (Yunjin) is not officially female Korean image but Moon Geun Young (Cinderella's Stepsister and Marry Me Mary) officially become female Korean Image. Micky Yoonchun (TVXQ) officially become male Korean image..
I m Malaysian girl also her (Yunjin) fan. When talk about Korea I wanna wear a gorgeous and beautiful Hanbok like Seo Hyo Rim and Park Min Young in Korea drama. When talk about Korea once again I wanna shout "SNSD(Girls Generation), Wonder Girl, Rain Oppa, TVXQ and other K-Pop stars.. Saranghaeyo(I love you)!!!!!!!" huhu..
i had a problem with her on lost. I really think she is talented and beautiful, but she tried to pronounce english too well(while faking it) and ends up sounding like a retarded person. it sounds like she is mentally handicapped.i couldnt listen to her try to talk in an english speaking/fake korean accent(where she was 'from somplace else'.) it was embarrassing/painful to watch. . she sounded like a struggling handicapped american trying to talk instead of a foreign person. it was just sad.
It's no surprise to see Korean culture infused into LOST. For one it's filmed in Hawai'i which is one the biggest states for Americans loving Korean dramas, it's HUGE here. Hawai'i is also heavily influenced with Korean traditions...food, people, culture, etc... LOST producers made a very smart decision and it turned out very very well. Sun and Jin are great amazing actors...kudos!
@MOONiE2k6 Are you love Korean Drama??? Which one?? I m Korean drama fan from Malaysia.. I love Fugitive Plan B starring Rain, Playful Kiss starring Kim Hyung Joon (SS501), Sungkyunkwan Scandal starring Micky Yoochun (Tohoshinki/TVXQ/DBSK) and others.. it not enough to type here..
@BeIntoEngland haha, oh wow, well, you do not understand me or any other american at all either, so what the fuck right do you have to think you "deserve to say that"? Huh? Ya fucking egotistical douche.
Oh, you're absolutely stupid, aren't ya? I've said to you, many Americans, not all.
I fucking bet you have fucking dyslexia. besides, I fucking bet you do not know that word "egotistical" at all. are you sure you know how to read and use words?
and I don't say I have to think of it, you fucking twat. you should go to see a doctor, you really need, fucker.
what? hahaha, you first Did misunderstand, what the fuck are you talking about?
I'm not fucking wrong. than Why the fuck did you misunderstand me if you don't have dyslexia? huh? Do you think everybody have to like Americans? what the fuck is this thought? I don't care you don't like England, but you first Did provoke a fight with me by pointing my name. I think you Are wrong absolutely.
Korean culture is so lame because it does not teach anyone to be self sufficient and only reliant on others. I use to live in Korea working for Citibank's finance department. Let me give you an example, in Korea, if a group of people go to dinner to eat, the eldest pays for everyone. This is not a one time occasion but all the time. This is also not suggested but expected. Dutch pay or sharing in the cost is considered cheap to the eldest regardless of the amount of money the eldest makes.
This is so much to the point that the others will not bring any money. Stealing from others is also common. In Korea there is a system where a group of people put a lump sum of money each month to give each other a low interest loan. It is called "GaeDoun."It is not uncommon for a person receiving the money to leave with their lump sum to never be seen.Korea is a very poor country and people will do anything for money. You can tell by the amount of hookers in the red light district.
@MyBaldMom@MyBaldMom@MyBaldMom yes your point may be true but Americans are pumping gas in Middle East and using labor from china, india and africa to use them to better themselves. In that sense, all Americans are robbers and cheaters and in fact some of them think they are reducing world poverty by doing so.
hahaha. i have accomplished what I wanted. good day you cheap skate, robber, hooker, and broke. korea is a poor country and you know it. the wealth is only in the hands of the few. the infrastructure in korea is poor with collapsed roads, buildings, and bridges. This is due to bribes that take place during all facets of korean society. koreans are not hookers? who runs all the massage parlors in the usa? korean hookers do. that is the truth room bang girl.
@MyBaldMom And very poor country? we have 13th largest GDP in the world far better than many European countries. And hookers? what are you saying? America and japan have all the largest porn sites and red light district.
@MyBaldMom Also, in your first point, asian people respect age and there is seperate tone that we use for the elders. Also, I think there is nothing wrong with elders buying dinner to people and honestly, i personally think its a selfish thing to dutch pay. frankly I would have to say that you are just another red neck who are ignorant to accept other cultures maybe you should try to understand other cultures first before you insult them. peace

Yunjin doesn't sound like she's been in the states since 10. If you move to an Eng speaking country and attend an American/English elementary school, your English should be more fluent than hers. Korean is my first language and I also grew up with a lot of Korean friends who moved to the states when they were young or during elementary school, they don't tend to stutter like her before starting a sentence or in the middle of clauses
@dandesade She isn't struggling! She is pausing when trying to think of examples of her input. Her English is perfectly native and fluent, the only trace of accent can be heard sometimes in the way she pronounces "s" (also, devoicing where it should be a "z" at the end of a word), but if she wasn't Korean, this would be considered a lisp. I've listened to many interviews with her speaking English, and it's perfectly natively fluent throughout.
@dandesade for moving to the states when she was 10 means her english is really quite good. most of the kids i know that moved here at that age, their english is often not as good.
I have lived in Korea for a long time and am married to a Korean. My Korean friends all fall about laughing at the "Korean" used on Lost. If I don't don't know what I am talking about, I guess my Korean friends don't either. And yes, Koreans do use 당신 but not not in every sentence, like they do in Lost.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
What Kim Yun-jin fails to mention is that the language used in the script is archaic and only used in traditional Korean theater (for example words like "tangsineun" =thou). Imagine Sawyer and Kate speaking to each other in Shakespearean language. Forsooth, O be-freckled one! Where goest thou?
You're oblivious to Korean culture. Koreans do use "dangshin" in contemporary language and the english translation wouldn't be "thou:, I speak the language fluently and lived there for years.
You are correct. 당신 would not be translated as "thou". My mistake. I should have used a better example to illustrate the fact the 한국말 used in early episodes of Lost is not the same 한국말 used daily in Korea. You are wrong in saying that I am oblivious to Korean culture. If you think Jin and Sun used authentic Korean, you are ignorant about Korean culture.
I think it's amazing how many Americans like to lump demographics together and oversimplify them (Christ - trying to explain the diversity of the UK, always gets frustrating when it's really just like a small USA with 4 states or provinces). And yet I think every non-American understands to try and lump the cultures of Texans and New Yorkers together would be quite mad.
@PurushaDesa, yeah kind of like you just lumped the demographics of Americans together as being people that lump demographics together, get a life, then get bent, then get a life again, but please stop coming off as an arrogant prick that doesnt know anything about the best country in the world....the USA!
koreans are only a part of Asian-American group in America. why so into korean this and that? Asians are the smallest group of people in the U.S... no need to further sub-categorize it... it's just a weird mentality to do so.
I am English (in London) but even I realize that Korea is a very distinct culture and a homogenous race of people in a small peninsular territory. I have spent 12 years in Asia and I am always interested in anything about China and Japan. But I only visited Korea recently - it's a lovely country with admirable people. So different from the Chinese! So different from the Japanese! Courteous, strong, sincere, genuine. Koreans are NOT some kind of "sub-category" of East Asians. Crazy idea.
I think the reason you've gotten 6 thumbs down sofar (none contributed by me), is because it sounds like you're saying it's okay to lump these unique and distinct groups (though admittedly, superficially similar) together.
There is a lot of history and politics regarding inter-Asian relations, and to lump everyone together would be to downplay the significance of each culture.
Yes we all know about the history... Chinese or Korean vs. Japanese, or Chinese vs. other Asian countries, etc. But your type of mentality is precisely what's keeping Asians down and making them weak and divided... as a "group", so to speak, here in the U.S. Asians are already the smallest population group in the U.S., no need to make yourselves even smaller or less important here. Think about that...
I'm not saying keep on hating each other. I'm saying there's hundreds of years of bad blood and it'd be best if we just don't go there, and respect the identity each culture has built for itself.
But it sounds to me like you're saying, they all look the same cause they are the same and they should get together like the blacks and curse the white man!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
In America, if you just keep talking about Korean this, Korean that.. then go back. You don't hear white people say "we German this, English this, Irish this and that.." All day long, like the Koreans do, do you?
I never said hey let's all get together and mix blood, but if you wanna separate from others, It only annoys and alienates people. And that's not a smart thing to do in a country where you're already the smallest minority to begin with..
lol well after thousands of years of being conquered by China, Japan, and ripped in half by the U.S., I don't blame Koreans for investing more outspoken pride in their culture than other groups.
But I agree with what you are saying - take down those cultural borders and lose the old world politics. But I'd like to add that this can be done without having Asians lump themselves as a collective group.
@MilkByCow Uk and Us. I never even heard of Korea before lost. It was always Japan, and tbh it still is. But Korea is my 2nd and China is my 3rd. I thought it was great because in one season, Jin was in a shop buying a large panda and I just managed to catch a glimpse of Japanese things such as Mario and Anime. I am a pretty big geek, but yeah, I dont think there is enough Korea in shows and this definetly inspired other shows when fellow writers realised how many people loved those charecters.
@pokemonfan4ever11 In my opinion, Jin and Sun started out as a traditionally Confucian, my initial perception of Jin and Sun embodied the traditional Confucian values not unique to a specific nation in the Orient. Sure, they were Korean. But from what I saw, nothing they did was unique to Korea and not also present in Japan or China. Confucian values, Sun's father as a mob boss (a la Triads or Yakuza) stereotype, their home in Korea or the traditional temple where they wedded.
@MilkByCow Hence, despite an attempted portrayal of Korean culture instead only succeeded in abbreviating the combined cultures of the Sinosphere with Korean faces at the forefront.
Sorry my mom don't make food for stranger. Especially Korean is more difficult to get her food. She is typical Vietnamese mom you know. I know you like Vietnamese food but sorry not for Korean. Hahahaha

Now, do you get the idea???

lol well after thousands of years of being conquered by China, Japan, and ripped in half by the U.S., I don't blame Koreans for investing more outspoken pride in their culture than other groups.

What? If anything Lost is still 100x better than Heroes. Heroes season 1 was excellent. Lost is brillant as a whole.

Trust me we will make you become monkeys within the next 10 year. You're right I don't deserve kimchi I only play with kimchi as a toy simply because I don't eat it. Hahaha.

Ok jungle boy. That doesn't even make sense. Go tell your mom to make me a spring roll and STFU.
melonbarmonster 2 years ago
Since my mom don't do it for you and you sound like insisting I'll do you a favor. You can have my spring roll just tell me when I'll be sure to wash it before I'll give it to you. Hahaha.
