  • Where do you get your SMA male right angle connectors?

  • @storre I got them from ebay. Just make sure you look at the images of the connector on ebay carefully.

  • Ok paul, thanks for the info,it was very helpfull.keep the vids coming.

  • hi paul, brill tutorial.ithese antennas looks pretty easy to make.gonna try to do some when i get my setup.one thing i,m a bit confused on how to find the exact frequency for the 5.8ghz system.i can see chan 2-8 on your utube vid,but if mins number 1 then i would,nt know.

  • @TIGERSHARK796 Depending on the Video Transmitter you got, it should have some documentation stating what the exact frequency of each channel is. Having said that if you went by just straight 5.8ghz then is should still work OK. I just thought I would be flying on Ch8 so I tuned my antenna to exactly Ch8

  • Huh, I gotta try this, looks easier than I thought it would be. Is this for the receiver or transmitter? Don't you need two of these? I've seen these antennas with 3 and 4 lobes. Which one goes where?

  • @FuttFel You would make the 3 for the Aircraft's video transmitter and the 4 for the video receiver.

  • @BMSWEB Yeah I read up on that minutes later. Tried to make one of these last night but a blob of solder bridged the shield and internal coax wire. Antenna still gave a picture but I want to redo it later. Such a pain in the arse this is.

  • Hey Paul i'm trying make these 2 antennas the CL/SP i.e.IBCrazy in 1.3ghz,... but i can't seem to find proper wire, i.e. "0.8mm copper plated MIG welding wire" any info or help would be great!!

  • @SubatomicRC I was using 1.1 for this one which was from Electrical cabling. I'm assuming you could do the same as specially when you consider the 1.3ghz will be a larger antenna and hence the extra strength should help it keep its shape.

  • What Gauge wire did you use, looks pretty hefty.....?

  • @TheOriginalJoeBloggs Seen your answer to a comment . . 1.1mm

  • @TheOriginalJoeBloggs Its about 1.1mm, that's all I had. The down side is its a little harder to shape, the up side is its rock solid

  • 0.8 mig wire

  • @PhotosFromAbove I would have thought it would have been strong enough. I know my antennas are very rigid and no way they will get damaged. Unless you crash lol

  • I was going to put it on a multi rotor so wind resistance is not a huge factor,I was more concerned that it would shield it

    jamie

  • @PhotosFromAbove How thick is the wire you're using? Ours is about 1.1mm and its pretty strong

  • Hi

Thanks for the time you took to do this vid.I have made the 3 leaf and 4 leaf for my 5.8 system and the vid quality is much improved.I was thinking on how to protect the antenna's better would mounting them in a table tennis ball reduce the quality any?

    Thanks Jamie

  • @PhotosFromAbove the problem with a table tennis ball is wind resistance depending on where you mount it

  • Thanks for the video Paul; as usual very clear and helpful. That link was useful too. :-)

  • thanks for all these videos you produce, i have learnt a great deal, i am planning to maiden my fpv bixler today, and the set up is largely what i have seen from your videos.

  • Thank You, you make it all look so EZ, I hope I do not mess it up!? are you a teacher? very good INFO! and well made!

  • Thanks so much. I needed to know how to do this :D

  • Great video tutorial on the CL & SP antenna building

  • Forgot to mention the SMA jumper can be found at IBCrazy's web store. Hope to see a video of your son taking his new Tek Sumo for it's first FPV flight!!

  • Hello Paul, I thought I'd mention that it is possible to purchase an SMA 18" male to male jumper that will allow you to jump to the antenna forming/soldering stage a bit quicker. When I made mine, the SMA connectors and the rg316 coax were not readily available and this made it easier for me. Watching you form the solid conductor copper wire made the bending much less springy than when I used the same as David's recommendation (steel welding wire w/copper coating). Thanks for the video.

  • this is the best build video of the CL, it showed me that i wont need to pay someone else to make them anymore,

  • Did you maintain the angles on the leaf(s)

    /watch?v=submrMo5QWs

    /watch?v=P-3hwU5ejbE

please do video of these being setup and working....

  • @TheOriginalJoeBloggs I have a videos of them being used in flight and they totally blow away the stock antennas that come with standard 5.8ghz system etc the only thing I didn't cover is the tweaking of the angles etc

  • :) Great video!!

  • This is a great tutorial. Thank you for making the effort.

  • I think you pretty much covered it. :)

  • @rogueqd Thanks man, I hope I have because this tutorial took a lot of time to produce. The audio buggered up so I had to edit it and do a complete Voice over . . not a smooth run

  • Hi do you have the link to the ebay seller that you got the antenna connectors from.

  • @27isanum I've purchased 3 times so far and I've probably made 8 sets of these antennas and each time I've had to purchase from different sellers as they always change and don't seem to always stock the same connectors
