We were wearing brown belts. It's the exam for shodan.

It is funny to see the diference in litle details to one contry to a other . I am training mine now , but the national federation (France) keep changing details each year (hand placements ,foot movement ect ...) .

Is this whole thing required for first degree black belt, or do you do a shorter version for 1st degree?

You have no expression on your face... even when keeping a mind clear, one must look dangerous when in such situations, even if it's just a test or kata. Make yourself appear to be dangerous for the psychological aspect.

100 points for 1st Dan, 200 for 2nd Dan etc etc.

Or you can go for a line up. You have to win your first 2 fights, then you beat 3 Judoka in succession and if you do it you get 1st Dan. It's tougher for a line up!
