This is one of the most moving songs in any video game ever. It plays during some of the most intense and amazing scenes in the game, like when Maria has to fight her father, and when Fei flies off the rescue Elly from Deus.
Beautiful song, first played at the perfect time - always brings tears to my eyes between chu-chu's fight and then maria's fight...especially maria's. Best RPG ever with a wonderful OST and definitely best story ever in a video game - better than most books.
I love this game dearly and make an effort to beat it once a year. But now I have less time and I've played this game SO MUCH that I've stopped beating it once a year. But I will always have the OST.
@RX93NuGundam Oh god, Calamity was a pain in the ass if you weren't prepared. Fun though to try to tough it out the hard way xD. And Bable... i missed jumps SOOO many times ;-;
played almost all psx games...really but this one is my favourite one, music is the best of all, story superb, characters great, graphics for that time also great. And most important, it is not as easy as the other rpg's :) I still remember when "Redrum" killed me in the Sewers :)
The 90s were so much better than the crappy ass 2000s.. music was better, movies were better, tv shows were better, but most importantly, the 90s were the time of the RPG.. My best childhood memories were growing up playing wonderful RPGs
@SargentToughie I kind of liked the way the second disc was set up. Sometimes just hinting at things that happened can make them seem much cooler than explicitly showing it from start to finish. If it's used right, like I think Xenogears did, it can be a very effective storytelling technique.
@jkidd972 The reason that Square set up the second disk like that was because Xenogears had it's budget sliced in order to get Final Fantasy VIII out of the gate on time. With reduced money, time, and manpower backing it, the development team had to do some serious snipping of content. This included the Siebzehn and Crescens getting Anima relics, which never even gets mentioned in the game.
I loved Xenogears, don't get me wrong, I just wish it was the game the developers wanted it to be.
@SargentToughie That makes sense, but regardless of the reason I think it turned out to be a pretty interesting way of telling the story. You never know, if all that stuff had been added, it might have ultimately taken away from the experience as a whole.
@jkidd972 "You never know, if all that stuff had been added, it might have ultimately taken away from the experience as a whole." Or not. I felt the exact opposite. At least the soundtrack will always kick ass.
@jkidd972 I respectfully disagree. It distorted the momentum of the story, for me, and more importantly cut away a lot of game time. It would have been a lot better if we could've had control of the game, keeping that illusion strong of being part of the experience, instead of reading a sort of 'summary' of the "minor" events that took place. It would've been a better interactive experience if the game was fully realized (HELL, if the whole saga was fully realized aka 'Perfect Works').
I agree... the way some events were presented in Disk2 made me not care like I should have. Reading a summary of events you never got to even SEE is like having a friend spoiling the story of a movie before you got to watch it. Some scenes were nice (like the very beginning of Disk2 or the scene when Zephyr and Citan talked in a black screen and pictures were shown...) but we should have lived the others (like people turning into monsters, the war... big stuff like this).
@SargentToughie Man, that really saddened me about several of Square's great games, how they were rushed to finish due to a big title game (usually Final Fantasy), especially in this case, rushing a masterpiece like XG, for the biggest piece of garbage in the FF series that is FFVIII. Secret of Mana and Chrono Cross were also noticeably rushed with the cut off of certain side stories in SoM and lack of character development in CC.
@SargentToughie final fantasy has gone to crap, they should re-release xenogears and split disc one and two into 2 separate games, that way they could flesh out the story on the second disc, i know it will never happen but itd be nice lol
@wexenhex Both are, sad to say, not perfect. Both stories had such tremendous potential, and they were both botched due to inner development and budget problems. I still can't help but love them both, even with their glaring flaws.
It's hard to hear such an awesome song without wanting to go back 10 years in time when I used to spend whole afternoons playing such wonderful games and discovering all kinds of emotions through pieces of art like this game and song .

Remembering the first time playing this game...
- Getting lost in the Aveh Water Drainage
- Meeting Id for the first time... and lose miserably.
- Getting lost in Shevat Sewer and killed by Redrum.
- Also getting killed by Calamity in the cave under the desert...
- Getting irritated when climbing the Babel Tower... (falls many times...)
But all of it are SWEET memories...
