best solution is v50.0.005 with hacked firmware, so you can install unsigned apps to :) ovi maps 3.0.3 for navi and everything is pretty nice :) just google for it... please dont ask me anything more.
In the version 40 update, kinetic scrolling has arrived. The latest update has brought it along with a bunch of other random good stuff too.
If you want a phone with widgets and N-Gage, buy an Ngage or an N97. The 5800 is fine how it is, and as far as i know I havent come across any of these 'a lot of bugs' you speak of. For its price, i think it's very well equipped as it is. A bit lacking on onboard memory and processing power, but otherwise..fine.
i never said the 5800 had a worse processor than the n97 (which i mentioned because of the widgets issue). All i said was that its processor is a bit lacking. Me wrong? Me noob? Me no think so.
I said the 5800 is fine how it is, but it's a bit lacking on onboard memory (64MB) and processing power (369mHz)...and that was all.
Music library refresh isn't a bug, it just requires you to refresh the library when you put new music on, like refreshing a webbrowser. Takes about 5 seconds.
I said there is no lack in processor. Both N97 and 5800 are using same processor called ARM11 which is single core. And you are completely wrong ARM11 have a frequency of 424Mhz not 369Mhz.
And the 5800 have 124MB of RAM not 64MB.
About what you are talking about then? I can't understand you.
And music library refresh is a bug. Nokia approved bug :) But the music library refresh worked in all the previous firmwares except V40.
Okay..on my phone, i have 86MB, i just went into memory details to check...i was only guessing when i said 64 because memory usually goes up in multiples of 8.. my bad.
secondly, I'm assuming my clock speed is upgraded from 369mHz to 424MHz with the new firmware... but still there seems to be 2 different versions of the phone..one that you have which has124MB,, and the 86MB one that i have. -.-
Once again, i only mentioned N97 for the fact that it has widgets in its home screen, not faster...
well i just went to go sync some music with Ovi. I synced 11 tracks to the phone, refreshed the library, and i could see and listen to every song i synced.. so as far as i know, V40 has no refresh bug in my phone..
I'm not an iPhone 3G fan either. iPod touch and 5800 is a better value combination.
But i'm looking forward to the next generation iPhone. June this year apparently.
Another row of apps would be nice. maybe more links than just 'email' and 'search'. That's where the N97's home screen shines, but what do you think needs improving?
i think the confusion was made when i said 'a bit lacking in onboard memory' in my 2nd post. I figured that memory (usually) goes up in multiples of 8, so i guessed that it was 64. When it's really 86, which is weird because that isn't a multiple of 8.
Anyway.. with all the processing power of the firmware update, the screen tilt is still slow and needs a transition effect instead of just blanking the screen, and the themes still take ages to change. lol Nokia, always room for improvement.
looks fine to me... The vid was uploaded on sep 12th... which date looks suspicious to you ? (s60 lets you change the date format in Clock settings page. Also the device updates page is hardcoded to DD/MM/YYYY date format)
i dont have any server profiles. how can i configure it?
i think this is the reason why i cant have any NEW AVAILABLE VERSIONS.. please..

You are too late :) I have V40 already.
Kinetic scrolling is good but the home screen still sucks. We need a better home screen.
Sorry you are completely wrong. Both N97 and 5800 have same processor and frequency. Then what? Noob?
And about bugs. 5800 still have bugs in it.
1. Music library refresh
2. I got a problem with video playback
But nothing serious like before. :)

That 86MB is phone's built-in memory. Not RAM. :)
No no no... There is only one version of 5800XM which have 124MB RAM. There is no version with 86MB RAM.
Clock speed upgrade is true.(From V30).. But that's not an overclock or upgrade. They just unlocked the processor frequency.
Cheers!!

ooooooooookay houston we have a problem
lol.. storage memory. 86MB of storage memory...
Not RAM memory...
128MB of RAM, 424MHz processor... 86MB **onboard memory**, 16GB maximum micro-SD. These are the specs, no?
LOL we were talking about 2 different things there. I was talking about memory, you were talking about RAM. Land of confusion..
Okay, so... V40 now, i only downloaded it last night, so I guess i'll have to put some more music on to see that refresh bug for myself.
Hm..
BrEnNo1023 2 years ago
What's the problem with 86MB? :) We know that 86MB is not enough :) I need at least 32GB built-in :))
Iphone is better in that case :) (I am not an iphone fan, Hope I will be)

You just removed one of your comment. Otherwise I could show who made the confusion between RAM and phone memory :)) LOL
Cheers!!
