  • Very nice setup, but I think I would put a main valve cutoff on the outside! What say you?

  • what kind of success have you had with your clones?

  • I built one similar to this and had horrible luck with it. I had a hard time keeping the water temp low or else the clones would get stem rot. I kept it disinfected and used anti microbial but it still got the rot every time. I finally put it on a timer for 15min on/ 15min off. I only got 50% success ,which was better than my last 2 tries, but the roots that did pop exploded. Btw your manifold is too big or your pump is too small. That or your misters are clogged.

  • I have the same box, and get 100% everytime. Try painting the lid black.

  • nice box dude, just a few errors though, airstones aere used when totaly submerged, the idea of sprinkler bar is cause their suspended in the air, also airstones act as a sponge for pathogens like root rot etc, they also dont add oxygen t the water liek many think, the oxygen process is done on the disruption of the water cirface, fuming is better have a read on it

  • @droppedhost1 great info, thanks. I had thought about the air stones and being a perfect place for things to grow...

  • hey how do you control the water temp, i have a hell of a time doing this the stems turn to mush...any help guys would be great

  • @paityn1982

use an Aquarium Heater with thermostat. You can get them cheap of ebay f. ex.

  • can i buy one from you.write me back

  • @RiveraBaberShop at this point, no, but it's easy to build, parts are cheap, and you can do some youtubing on how to do plumping to get your practicing before trying to build something :)

  • That's a sweet cloner you built; I love DIY projects that result in something awesome.

  • at 3:27 you said you'll shoot a video of the other ones you've built, looks like that hasn't happened yet. I saw the Sure To Grow vid too and am already collecting the parts for this. I like your manifold design with the valves on the end to regulate the pressure. I'm trying to think of a way to make the height of the manifold with adjustable legs or something like that. Have you improved this manifold design at all? Please let us know and shoot some more vids!! thanks!

  • @fetymann Life has been busy, needless to say, I haven't been able to do any more. I like the idea of trying to make the legs adjustable. :) I am sure there is a way, they can be made to easily be pulled out, by not gluing them as I did, and just make a few lengths and such, but not as re-usable as what you are thinking. I hope to be posting my latest designs soon :)

  • @fetymann real life has gotten in the way, I was hit by a car, and am unable to do this stuff right now... But, when I can work on this stuff again, I will be doing larger scale systems. What I am doing is working on designs to turn out kitchen into a hanging hydro garden :) When I can, I will post some drawings of what we are planning to do in our kitchen =D

  • @monteros Awesome, hope you heal soon.

  • can u buy the sprayers at walmart or home depo?

  • @773steve Neither, they are made by Antelco, part number 15745 The same ones that the EZ Cloner uses. Order online.

  • @fetymann thank u i ended up buying from a hydro shop around 70cent each i think but good info for future reference

  • 2 inch net pot what is the max size wight plant u can have in there i mean can u get a full plant /harvest outta that size? or do u have 2 switch it up 2 a bigger net pot?

  • @773steve You could have 2.5" net pots if you want to keep them on the squares, which are 2.75" x 3.25". You could go with bigger net pots, you'll just have to seal the dip between the squares, although you should really put some foam insulation with foil on one side over the lid, it helps cut down the heat and light getting inside. see: rollitup . org/blogs/361018/2011/9/6/

  • @773steve If you are growing short veggies or herbs then you can probably get away with using 2.5" net pots, just use a sturdy medium like hydroton. Anything tall and stalky you would need to go with bigger net cups and/or support them with overhead wire/strings.

  • Can someone please explain why you would spend so much money on hydroponics when you can just plant in the ground?? Sorry for being naive, i just don't understand the expense!

  • @ImDaveCrazy Plants grow faster with hydroponics than with soil. I harvest 3 times with hydro while my soil is still growing. It saves time and money in the long run.

  • Does the distance between the sprinklers and the bottom of the net pots matter? and if so how far?

  • @Thortorian I am sure someone out there will always have an answer for this; however, basically you just want to make sure the pots are saturated. Ideally you would want the nutrient solution to spray the pots, and not hit the top and edges so hard it comes out :) Many people complain about setups like this and have to use tape, foam or something else on the lid to prevent splash from coming out.

  • @monteros k thx imma give it a try i just made two yesterday and im excited to see the results

  • @Thortorian Doesn't really matter once your plants have roots that dip into the nutrient solution as long as you have an air stone in there, or a couple. For cloning you'd want to spray the basket so in the end you typically end up with a DWC/Aeroponic cloner so you spray the baskets but feed like DWC units do where the roots are suspended in the solution.

  • What brand box is that

  • @whereswaldosbud It's a 27 gallon Tough Box, you can find it at Home Depot.

  • if you wanna try something really good build a cloner that makes use of all the space availible including the sides. if you used a seperate resovoir you could buidl acloner than has plants site holes in the side also. perhaps a dome shape would be good. a large round trahscan with lot of hole drilled around the sides. you could call it the ufo cloner

  • you can grow large plants in this system also. I have grown basil in a system cloner smaller than this even. so remember its not just for cloning

  • where i can buy this black washers ???????????????

    please send me answer

  • First of all you should paint the top white not black and you need a more powerful pump a dead horse could piss on your plants that would work better. Checkout the x stream propogator and then click add to basket then buy!

  • @bassnman420 yeah :) youtube it up - google your local hydro shops and talk about nutrients with them! Lots of choices, it's all awesome. Some people spend a lot on rooting hormone; however, you can go find a willow tree, take some branch/leaf cuttings and mash it up and create a tea, run it through a coffee filter and add it to your water - willow has a natural rooting hormone in it :)

  • looks like mine

  • what do u so add clone gel too the water n super thrive , or just water and dip the cutting?

  • very nice idea , so do u just need one pump and which should i get under 200?

  • @CanadianOrganik420 Any type of rooting hormone, do some googleing and you will be fine, even here on youtube you will find what you are looking for. Honestly you can just get some willow leaves from a willow tree, mash them up, in a can with water and let it sit over night. The willow produces a natural rooting hormone.

  • @monteros yea i head that before for grafting

  • Well first off he over did it like he said as far as a water pump I have found a 185 to a 200gph will do just fine he has to much tubing in there to many valves pretty much to many of things he doesn't need lol all you need it this as I list. 1.Tub ,2.1/4 or 3/8 hose,3.Two air stones,4.Two slot air pump a single can do this also,5. One 1/4 inch pvc ,6.Two caps one T brace ,7.The rubber holders on top and yes use a hole saw to make the holes,8.Timer

  • @InfamousLA1 I agree completely, this was my first build, lessons learned :) Thanks for the comments.

  • i've grown full sized plants in cloners. you don't need a very large tub to grow large plants

  • Great Looking setup. Who manufactures the Tub and what model name is it? I have seen a black tub with the folding yellow top but not that one. 24 perfect little squares, I love it. It looks a lot more solid than those droopy Rubbermaid jobs. Will I also be able to find the black overflow (Pressure Control) valves at my local grow shop or do you have an ebay shop you would recommend. I also think with foam tape and top and bottom metal gasket with a clap might solve the leaking problem. Thanks

  • @Americandutchman007 Thanks for commenting, I am not sure the model/manufacturer, bought them from lowes, and they still have them here. The over flow valves are typical PVC plumbing supplies that you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes. :)

  • just a quick tip. if you use a 2inch drill saw.. the 2 inch neoprene inserts will fall right through, which is why you see some of them with the net pots.. what a headache! your best bet is to get a drill saw that is just under 2 inches if you dont wanna use net cups

  • or order 3 inch inserts.. its just neoprene so you could cut the inserts to size

  • would you be interested in building one for sale?......exactly like this one?......i love what youve done here and i would enjoy using your idea to better my garden!!!

  • @bushnewman Normally I might, but I was recently injured and am out of commission for a while. It is easy to do though, if you don't think you can do it, just go buy a single short piece, and the glues and practice. Once you understand and know how to do it, you will love how easy it is. If it's a simple desire to just get it, check your local Hydro shop, most carry these on consignment from other builders =D

  • @bushnewman it looks great and all yeah i agree...but you end up shocking the hell out of the plant when you remove them from that small hole

  • @hiphopzannouncer Those colllars you see are split on one side and are made of foamy rubber so they are pliable, You just pull it apart and take the clone out, no more harm than picking it up.

  • i just finished mine, using the same box, im using a 396gph pump and 10 ezclone misters. and it leaks between the lid and bottom. i was just wondering what size pump u use and have u ran it wide open yet? if so did it leak?

  • @okieltr450 yeah it leaked, it's common for builders on most of these kind of cloners to use a foam tape along the edges to prevent leaking :) You can also make sure to use an overflow valve like i did so you can control the sprinkle height.

  • @okieltr450 use a piece of weather stripping and 2-4 clamps for around the lid and you should b fine

  • this looks super cool :) but ima bit well.... stupid

    what does it do?

  • @narutomagic It's a plant cloner, allows me to take cuttings from plants and place them in this unit, and get them to root, effectively cloning it :) Really nice when you get a strong plant that has nice fruit etc.

  • holy crap! thats awesome, u jst put a seed in and in like 4 days... you have a brand new plant of the same kind

  • @monteros do you need the netpot rings to hold the collars in there?

  • @petthekittyz yeah, well probably not if you plan to only use it for cloning. I plan to possibly use it for growing smaller plants too, but not sure. Good question: I believe that if you are just doing cloning of smaller, lighter weight cuttings you would be fine with the foam inserts only. However, that assumes you will find a hole saw that works =D I couldn't find the right outside diameter hole saw to use for the inserts I could buy =/

  • @monteros So if i use a 1-7/8 hole saw, and some sanding to make it perfect, the foam inserts should hold up.. was just wondering why it seems everyone who makes these cloners use both the foam inserts and the net cup upper halfs.. ive ordered everything to make 2 cloners, well, like yours with the bubbler system so i can do actual growing as well, but was wondering if the foam inserts were just not tapered, or that weak? guess its just fitment issues..

  • @petthekittyz totally fit"ment" :) I have a grinding wheel, just didn't do it. I might in the future.

  • @monteros Thanks dude! and the hybrid aeroponic sprayer with the airstones is a great idea! thanks for the video!

  • awesome

  • @nytquil1 Thanks - it was a blast to build too.
