  • i'm starting to love this band! i'm inlove with Barney... :)

  • I have always felt, people who dont like or get Joy Division or New Order, grown up without lose or much pain. I pretty sure I get it, abused since age 6 now im 52 and most of my family is dead. Its so hard to live when I wish I was never born or just dead would be so nice. Im happy for people to have a good life and not understand cries for help. Better me to suffer than anyone else. That said if you dont like it please shut up and go listen to green day.

  • @soxprettyxdead people like you should die in a hole you clearly know nothing about this Generations good music and just say it's all bad because you have not heard anything good? you asswipe go listen to Ynwie or Necrophagist Cephalic Carnage Victor Smolski/Rage Tool Gojira Before you say another fucking thing about this generations music you piece of shit.

  • @IStoleYourMumsName Ahaha how the fuck do you get a bug up your ass about shitty metal. It's like jumping into an argument about performance art and bringing up gallagher with a straight face.

  • I was 14 when this came out and I'm still in awe. NO are a decade older than me and I've always been in awe of them and their cohort.

  • grandi new order da ceremony a prima di get redy poi si sono lsciati un po'andare ma hnanno scritto delle melodie che retrenno nella memoria ditutti queli che hann avuto 15 anni enll'87 come gli smiths, i^diciamo che me li aveva prescritti il dottore ,mal di pancia "rusholme ruffians" mal di gola "waht diference does it makes"? great music!! w new order.

  • reminds me of an old crush on a girl I had. Used to listen to this (and a lot of songs from substance) in my bed at night thinking of HER...

  • encouraged (sorry)

  • they changed music ,who else could make bass guitar, drums and keyboards work ,they brought a sound that ecouraged dance music and the madchester rave scene

  • @soXprettydead i was the same, im 20 and know the 80s scene better then my parents who were at there youth then! i could enlighten you on loads of new romantic, eletronica tech and house if you wanted :)

  • If Ian Curtis did not die..............would have New Order been formed?

Joy Divison was just about to break the USA, which could have been the end of them anyway!

Long live Ian Curtis in our memories but the rest did evolve into a great band.

Oh yeah Peter Hook the greatest bass player in the world

  • Like if you are listening to this whilst sewing together your own outfit for the prom.

  • Now I get why the band is named that way...

  • i rmbr listening to this song when me and my girlfriend broke up. man it was so powerful.

  • Curse the thieves, you know who you are. Good tune to remember.

  • Definitively the best band ever, from Joy Division to N.O., they rules.

  • Love can sometimes be magic, but magic can sometimes…just be an illusion!!!

  • I'VE LIVED MY LIFE ON ALCOHOL

I'VE LIVED MY LIFE ON PILLS

    BUT IT'S FOR LOVE

NOWADAYS IT IS FÜR SUCH A SHAME OR REASONS

  • full classic! pre electro old school!

  • I think the line is "and it's so uncouth", not uncool.

  • Happy Birthday Bernard Sumner (January 4)

  • @SuperRod88 WE ALL CAPRICORNS GOT TALENT!!!!!!!

  • @Heckvaalhagen And You're Sooooo Right !

  • you dont have to be the champion of the american idol to be great as this band. summers voice may seem ordinary but the song over all has substance in melody and lyrics, typical 80's music.

  • Love this song - takes me back to my days at Michigan State University as a cool college student without a care in the world ... ah those were the days ... class of 95 :) Live forever New Order / Joy Division / and Ian and my former girlfriend who brought me to cool music like this :) Happy New Year Joy Milano..................

  • Does anyone know what particular synth is being used at 0:10??

  • @Beetlebum1992 . most bands at this time used emulator 2,s or Rolands, about as much as i know

  • @skywalker1109 Emulators were a series of proto-samplers that were made by an American company called E-mu back in the early eighties. Bands like New Order and Depeche Mode made heavy use of them. The main synthesizers that New Order Used were the Octave Plateau "Voyetra Eight," Sequential Circuits "Prophet Five," Moog "The Source," and Arp "Quadra".

  • @thesearethesuns Bernard Summer also used some sort of electronic drum pad rig, as seen in some of their official videos "Perfect Kiss," I believe, and in live footage. They also used an Oberheim DXM for the drums to create the drum track for "Blue Monday".

  • @Beetlebum1992 If I had to guess, I would say the Octave Plateau "Voyetra Eight," but another good guess would be the Sequential Circuits "Prophet Five" which had amazing string sound capabilities.

  • Pretty In Pink...........

  • @GreenEyedGurrrl

    Elegia as well :)

  • i am a thief!

  • pretty in pink????

  • to był piękny czas...

  • It should be compulsory to listen to this song whilst getting ready for prom.

  • @loedlj go sit on a dick.......

  • @Toxiejunkie Yummy! Sounds Juicy! Good Times Yeh!

  • excellent.

  • a good mix :)

  • i just dont understand why this doesnt have millions of views, what a racked off society i live in , jesssssussssss

  • My most favorite music track of New Order, ever loaded with emotions in its finest. A fusion of Poetry, Electronica Music, Emotions immortalized in a single love song.

  • @mykgeo i think so i love also run and 1963 byeloll.dave.

  • the best music of the '80's. groundbreaking sounds (just don't look at the haircuts.........)

  • i just got this record for fifty cents. thank you, goodwill.

  • Always was my favourite New Order track.

    Timeless beauty.

  • @sharomanet Totally agree^^ One of those 'o woah' moments in life back in the day.

  • Timeless ... sounds as beautiful now as it did when I first heard it in 1984. One footnote: the lyric is not "Love ... belongs to everyone BUT us" ... it's "Love ... belongs to everyone OF us." Simple and true.

  • ..do i detect a bit of word mincing here ?

  • i love that they went from Joy Division to this.

    great, great song.

i'm 15 and i'm a bit ashamed of my generations music. it doesnt even begin to compare to this.

  • @soXprettyXdead

I totally agree! I'm 19 and pop music nowadays is just abysmal, it's all the same generated bullshit. It makes me mad that these people get rich off awful talentless, autotuned rubbish.

  • @chelskii18 in a slightly warped way of looking at things, as no one pays for music now, at least all the people that only do it for the money will stop doing it, leaving the people that do it because they love doing it to get on with it, just a shame they can't earn anything either though.

  • @soXprettyXdead A bit ashamed? I like the way Youtube is turning into a modern day confessional box, mainly kids stating their ages and their sins for not loving Simon Cowell and his disciples. ....welcome to music from the heart....lol.

  • @soXprettyXdead I'm a bit ashamed of mankind for taking some drop of pride from listening to others' accomplishment.

  • @soXprettyXdead

I was about 15 when I started listening to this and I still love it. You are a smart and cool person and you have already risen above the tastes of your fellow teens. Good to be in arms with you.-)

  • @soXprettyXdead oh shut up! listen to the band thieves like us,and then talk about your generations music.

  • @soXprettyXdead dude hahah have you listened to wiz new wave is famous for being minamilist and purposely shitty

  • I always loved the very ending of the song - they way they just kind of power off the synthesizers.

  • I could never listen to another band for the rest of my life!

  • bass guitar busher

  • damn i love this track!!! better than perfect kiss.

  • I fell in love with New Order some time in the early 1980s, and I must say they have never been surpassed.

  • Just listening to New Order or watching one of their videos, takes me back about 20+ years! This is a great song, for such an underrated and undervalued band! New Order in my opinion, was in the top five regarding 80's music....unfortunately "today's music" can't even begin to compare with the musically gifted and talented song writing of Bernard Sumner and the rest of the band. The "Shoegazer" scene was also another great era within the music industry....bands like Ride, Lush, Curve, etc.

  • May I recommend the book 'A Concise Guide To Eighties' Music' by Karl Vorderman. The author is a big fan of this track.

  • It's a buddy rich 5 string bass. I saw them live at the King center in Miami Fla. In 1987.

  • It's a buddy rich 5 string bass

  • Hype S--t!

  • This was in pretty in pink !!!! :D always wonder what that song was !!! thanks for the post

  • powerful chorus in an otherwise undercooled song

  • thieve like us brought me here

  • I think he uses a chorus machine on the bass. It is all their sound and very cool that is in the front of the music. OMD is the same way. The Bass is the game!

  • AMAZING BEST SONG EVER

  • @mrlee192

Yep real bass. I don't know how Hooky ( Peter Hook) did it but it's a new order signature.

Live gigs were a real lottery though, amazing or err not.

Only cos the band toured studio equipment, as that was all there was.

    Search "Hurt live" my fave.

  • Dear Drew . . . it's eddie . . . remember U teachin' me how to play BM on yur keyboards N yur garage in High School . . . U gotta find away to cum back 2 me Drew . . . -eddie Q(JOn St. James #1 KKKAN) wwwdotgreycelebrationdotcom

  • This song will always make me think of Pretty in Pink.

  • Jeez, 27 years old. Where did the time go.

  • Sounds like the original 12 inch version!

    It was a real floor-filler.

  • If people are disliking how in the world did they get here? I mean come on New order!!!!!! are you kidding? legends, legends.

  • Remember DJ'ing at a wedding in the 80s and to the side of the stage was a noise monitor trip, as the night unfolded I got slightly merry and decided to find a record to peak the noise level. This track did the trick, loads of pissed off guests as the electric went off and me hiding behind the decks laughing my arse off.

  • @1860george he was lucky to have made movies in the 80s which had the best music!

  • ooh what a bass line. ooh what an amazing keyboard sequence. this song has it all. im overflowing with emotions listening to this masterpiece

  • LOVE! IT!

Thanks a million for posting. Like the pics of the band. Remember hearing this for the first time while watching "Pretty In Pink" when I was little in the 80s...liked it then, looooooooooove it now. Elegia, also in "PIP", is another gorgeous New Order track.

  • Ive lived my Life on Alcohol Lived my life on pills

  • Melody and melancholy meet under the watchful eye of God - I'm sure even He must have tapped HIs feet to this one.

  • @godsstruggler

So well described, thought it but never voiced it.

Even after 30 odd years of loving the band.

  • This song is so perfect.

  • During the 80's New Order was producing the music of the future, and unfortunately the present hasn't caught up with them yet.

  • now music sucks

  • I can't even express how deeply this feels and what it means to my psychological development. But I love it. I love it, love it, love it.

  • 4 people wouldn't know good music if it punched them in the face.

  • New Order. Proof that pop music wasn't always horseshit.

  • How in the hell are there 2 dislikes for this video? Crackheads shouldn't be listening to New Order.

  • @fussnot oooh, crackhead as a insult, how very 80's!

  • only 57,000 odd hits? WTF! this song is epic.

  • So yes, i'm on this Ian kick. I can hear his voice on this track, this is totally him. As much as I love what became of Joy Division, I don't know if he could have survived the music that is New Order. Not a put down at all, I love these guys, just loved Joy Division better.

  • Yes it was in that film and how fantastic was that film ? Perfect song ! One of my favourite films along with The Breakfast Club!!

  • @babyblue1878 When I first saw Pretty in Pink four years ago, the next day I went out and bought it. I love it so much! Probably gonna watch it tonight....

  • Yep, it probably is, it was definitely in a mid 80's John Hughes film. The guy liked a lot of British stuff, he had an ear for a good tune.

  • I always thought the British 'got' pop better than anyone else. Like they did with Punk.

I reckon it was all that history of living under such a shitty political economy ever since.... William The Conqueror really.

  • Person dislike this song must had bad day, missing fingers!

  • One of their best singles and as the OP states "contains an amazing B-side". ABSO-EFFING-LUTELY!!! Lonesome Tonight is probably N.O.'s finest work. And to think that the younger generation wonder why we pine for the good old 80's!

  • the devil dislikes!!

  • Xclnt Sound M8 Cheers !

  • It was in 'Pretty in Pink'.

It plays at the end of the movie in the scene where everybody gets ready for the prom.

  • was this song featured in one of john hughes' movies?

  • bravo!!! amazing song.

  • Thanks God the Brits give us Americans great bands! I can remember laying on my parents living room floor with headphones on in the middle of the night listening to this. Beer, Ganja, and NewOrder. Thats a great combo. :)

  • @ibalto you yanks have given us Brits plenty of good bands too. respect.

  • @ibalto You gave us great bands, though - it's been like a baton exchange down the decades.

  • @ibalto Did you like the Human Leauge? ;)

  • First time I saw them was Margate, Winter Gardens, UK, yes, Margate.....probably around 1983/4....loved them since....had to run like a nutter to get last train home...I was only 16/17!! Inconsiderate f**kers! Those pics are early, look at Hooky!! lol
