I'm really not into this current New Wave revival. New Order, Echo and the Bunnymen, Depeche Mode, Psychedelic Furs, the Cure,.... are more than enough for me =-) Doesn't get any better than this !!!!!!!!!!!!
I have always felt, people who dont like or get Joy Division or New Order, grown up without lose or much pain. I pretty sure I get it, abused since age 6 now im 52 and most of my family is dead. @soXprettydead i was the same, im 20 and know the 80s scene better then my parents who were at there youth then! i could enlighten you on loads of new romantic, eletronica tech and house if you wanted :)
you dont have to be the champion of the american idol to be great as this band. summers voice may seem ordinary but the song over all has substance in melody and lyrics, typical 80's music.
Love this song - takes me back to my days at Michigan State University as a cool college student without a care in the world ... ah those were the days ... class of 95 :) Live forever New Order / Joy Division / and Ian and my former girlfriend who brought me to cool music like this :) Happy New Year Joy Milano..................
@skywalker1109 Emulators were a series of proto-samplers that were made by an American company called E-mu back in the early eighties. Bands like New Order and Depeche Mode made heavy use of them. The main synthesizers that New Order Used were the Octave Plateau "Voyetra Eight," Sequential Circuits "Prophet Five," Moog "The Source," and Arp "Quadra".
@thesearethesuns Bernard Summer also used some sort of electronic drum pad rig, as seen in some of their official videos "Perfect Kiss," I believe, and in live footage. They also used an Oberheim DXM for the drums to create the drum track for "Blue Monday".
@Beetlebum1992 If I had to guess, I would say the Octave Plateau "Voyetra Eight," but another good guess would be the Sequential Circuits "Prophet Five" which had amazing string sound capabilities.
My most favorite music track of New Order, ever loaded with emotions in its finest. A fusion of Poetry, Electronica Music, Emotions immortalized in a single love song.
Timeless ... sounds as beautiful now as it did when I first heard it in 1984. One footnote: the lyric is not "Love ... belongs to everyone BUT us" ... it's "Love ... belongs to everyone OF us." Simple and true.
I totally agree! I'm 19 and pop music nowadays is just abysmal, it's all the same generated bullshit. It makes me mad that these people get rich off awful talentless, autotuned rubbish.
@chelskii18 in a slightly warped way of looking at things, as no one pays for music now, at least all the people that only do it for the money will stop doing it, leaving the people that do it because they love doing it to get on with it, just a shame they can't earn anything either though.
@soXprettyXdead A bit ashamed? I like the way Youtube is turning into a modern day confessional box, mainly kids stating their ages and their sins for not loving Simon Cowell and his disciples. ....welcome to music from the heart....lol.
I was about 15 when I started listening to this and I still love it. You are a smart and cool person and you have already risen above the tastes of your fellow teens. Good to be in arms with you.-)
Just listening to New Order or watching one of their videos, takes me back about 20+ years! This is a great song, for such an underrated and undervalued band! New Order in my opinion, was in the top five regarding 80's music....unfortunately "today's music" can't even begin to compare with the musically gifted and talented song writing of Bernard Sumner and the rest of the band. The "Shoegazer" scene was also another great era within the music industry....bands like Ride, Lush, Curve, etc.
I think he uses a chorus machine on the bass. It is all their sound and very cool that is in the front of the music. OMD is the same way. The Bass is the game!

Remember DJ'ing at a wedding in the 80s and to the side of the stage was a noise monitor trip, as the night unfolded I got slightly merry and decided to find a record to peak the noise level. This track did the trick, loads of pissed off guests as the electric went off and me hiding behind the decks laughing my arse off.
Thanks a million for posting. Like the pics of the band. Remember hearing this for the first time while watching "Pretty In Pink" when I was little in the 80s...liked it then, looooooooooove it now. Elegia, also in "PIP", is another gorgeous New Order track.

Joy Divison was just about to break the USA, which could have been the end of them anyway!
Long live Ian Curtis in our memories but the rest did evolve into a great band.

It's great. Now move on to Orbital. Progenitor? Yes.
New Order, the Smiths, all of it plays into it.
Orbital is the penultimate British Techno. Despite the fact they split up.

@ibalto You gave us great bands, though - it's been like a baton exchange down the decades.
