to "chip" it is basically to reprogram the stock ECU with a more aggressive program. changing fuel, ignition and boost levels for a good power increase.
check out Revo chips. they are great, very happy with mine after switching from APR
6.5 0-60 i count, thats fast....i hve a gti 1.8t 2003, just had it chipped by apr...91 oct program im running but im not sure its as big a dfference as everyone says..what mods do u have and what kind of chip? Did yo find the chip to e a huuuge difference or just somewhat?
Hi I'm in high school and I have a jetta 1.8t with an apr 93 chip... I'm goin to race this nigger with a charger 3.5l.. He thinks my car is a shorty economy car. I really want to smoke this dude. I was wondering... When I am going to to a "drag" race with him, should I turn the ESP off? Thanks
@nickm456123 dude no offense but im not a fan of jettas.. but he should be one to talk about an economy car when he has the lwest end charger ever made and plus its a fucking charger theyre piles of shit compared to anything
my bro has a wolfsburg edition 1.8t, 180hp, auto and it does 220km/h easy ( the fastest i have done be4 i brake cuz of traffic) but yes after 220 its going still and the engine didnt plan on stoppin at all!
I'm running a K04 and high flow manifold, 3" exhaust, bigger injectors and revo stage 2+ chip now, and it runs smoother and better than the POS apr program ever did.
no they governor is set to 240km but if you chip it and slight modds it can go to 280km but than it starts to redline. but yes jetta mk4 govenor is set at 240 i know this from pushing it there on a daily basis.
yes my 05 mk4 1.8t 5spd does it on a daily basis in the summer 240km here in Canada and i don't see why they would make it much different anywhere else. 240km is about 150mph which it even says in guides and reviews...
It ups the level of boost.. Instead of the stock 9.5/10psi on a 1.8T, depending on the manufacturer and the agressiveness of the chip, you could end up anywhere from 14 to 19. More boost = More power/more torque.
a boost controller by itself is dangerous... the chip not only raises boost, but also changes timing and fueling, so you arent going to fry anything...
now, i have a boost controller, on top of the chip, so i can run basically wherever i want... i was at 21psi, but turned it back down to 16 or 17 to be safe... my software and fuel injectors cant keep up... next will be a megasquirt stand-alone system :)
i think its really very compairable to stock fuel mileage. and when im on the highway (I LOVE this car on the highway btw) and i keep out of it, i'll get 750+ km to a tank. so its still very good... although, i can get 325 on a tank if i "try" hhahha
heard that gear grind goin into 3rd, mine does the same

it doesnt really really matter if you know how to launch.
turn it off anyways, because if the tires spin a little too much and the esp kicks in, its like hitting the brakes haha.

@nickm456123 so did you beat him?

my jetta 2.0 (the slow one) its limited at 210 km/h so maybe a 1.8T could get 240km/h

k true lol.. how did ur wheels hook up so good with your launch at 4k tho? if i launch mine at like 2500rpm i just spin throughout all of 1st gear?
currbag 2 years ago
i dont just dump the clutch, i launch it hard, but i'm not full throttle either until part way through 1st.
MK4T18 2 years ago
Decent i like it
qaswedfr45 2 years ago
why lie and say you chipped your ECU. My 1.8t is bone stock and i would destroy you in a 0-60.(6.4 secs) learn to drive
currbag 2 years ago
youre a tool
yea i lied. hahaahha
retard.
first of all, a stock 1.8t does not rev to 6900 rpm
second of all, look at my other vid, stock 1.8t's dont do 240 kph
;)
and i would be glad to embarrass you on the roadcourse.
MK4T18 2 years ago
stock 1.8 ts will do 240. trust me.

VaNdAlL04 3 years ago
what?
stock governer is set around 217kph.
theres is no way in hell that with "slight mods" it would do 280..
the limiter is NOT AT 240. definately NOT.
MK4T18 3 years ago

any software aplication removes the speed limiter and raises the rpm range.

whats that yellow thing on the speedometer?
Blehzed 4 years ago
traction control light, indicating that traction control is Off.
MK4T18 4 years ago
sometimes its not on and it flashes
Blehzed 4 years ago
When it flashes it's because it's enabled and it senses reduced traction.
coryfont 4 years ago
you need to turn it off to race.or it wont let u go up faster.
is a function for security when is raining, stability control or some shit.
lesber2004 3 years ago
Wrong, on 03-04 models with the sports package sporting the ESP system, this works however with the simple ASR system, you remain blocked at 212km/h.

so when i watch all of these videos of cars accelerating and the comments say "chipped" does that simply mean that the tachometer will redline?
Bokysadidas 4 years ago

coryfont 4 years ago
ooh, ok. does that also force the engine to rev higher?
Bokysadidas 4 years ago
Not on VW.. On Hondas I think so tho.
coryfont 4 years ago
the APR chip raises the stock limiter to abot 7200 or a bit higher RPM, so you can over rev it a bit.
MK4T18 4 years ago
but a boost controller could deal with all of that right?
DiiMOND08 4 years ago
I couldn't answer that.. Sorry.
coryfont 4 years ago

how much $ should i spend for a decent chip... ( for my 2.0l 1999.5 )?
benlevy011 4 years ago
uhhh i'm not familiar with any chips for the 2.0L....
my APR chip was $633 tax in
MK4T18 4 years ago
On a 2.0, the results aren't worth it.
coryfont 4 years ago
I just looked it up.. On a 2.0L, you're looking at going from 115hp/122lb-ft to 125hp/145lb-ft.
