@jrt88fan entirely possible but I've never seen an antenna on any other GT40. Besides, that looks like a recent antenna. Back in the day they relied more on pit boards to relay info.
This looks like the one of very first cars Eric Broadley put together for Henry II in late 1963, early 1964 before Shelby was asked to make the cars dependable. One of two. 289 race motor. Just plain friggin gorgeous. and soooooooo rare
It's weird to think that my tv is taller than this car, but this car coast 10x's as much than my tv.
Just a simple little fact to throw out at you all. Want to know another fact about this car? It eats Ferraris for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Ferrari owners, beware!
Don't know anything about authenticity of any of these vehicles but my friend is currently rebuilding a GT 40 that when restored, will be only known GT40 with Aluminum body known to exist. Will be stored in Auburn, Indiana at Museum. Projected finish date is sometime in 2013
Actually thats my son. You rude punk!!! I don't have an account. I don't spend much time on the internet but I'm laid up right now from surgery. Incase you wanted the full story. Ya' little bastard!
Superformance is not a Vintage GT40 it is a Replica built by HY-TECH Automotive in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. and sold by Superformance here in the USA. Also the only MKIII Cobra sanctioned by Carol Shelby. This car is 99.9% as the original. the 1% is Air Conditioning, and Your Choice of Motor.
Ford got pissed because Ferrari backed out on a deal to sell his business to Ford, at the last minute it seems. Ford had a lot of money and time involved in the deal that fell through, and decided to whip Ferrari's ass on the race track. So they rolled out the thundering 427 and wrapped it in a fast envelope and stomped butt. Then one day Ford said that's it and pulled the plug after spankin the red horse for a couple years. The back story is as intresting as the car it created.
@Riles07 The British yellow rear number plate you can see sticking out behind the US plate would indicate that it's a British built replica somebody shipped to the US. Genuine GT40s were built at a time when British plates were black with either white or silver digits, so this car must be later, and therefore a replica. Still nice though.
@Spectre528 and fortunately the bits that stop it handling like crap at the first corner are british :) seriously though this is an excellent example of American muscle and British engineering too bad it dosnt happen more often in this day and age of sanitised Euoro boxes damn I miss the days when cars were made to look as good as they go
Nothing crazy. It's most likely a kit car. Which leads me to believe it either has a 302 or a 351. If we're talking about either one of them than we are talking about no more than 450-550whp. Assuming it has a mild cam, no more than 12.0:1 compression. I've seen tons of these at car shows. They usually have 350-500hp Ford small blocks in them. Not saying it's a turd. But it's definately not no 1,000whp+ car. I've been building super stocks for 30+ years. I can just tell by hearing it run.
Holy S H I T!!! @91slownotch I'll be 70 next year,my son's are 31 and 43. You want my wifes and daughter's info too. Want a urine sample? I'd be happy to give you one. Stool too if you really want it.
I just read in a book called Ford The Dust and the Glory that the GT 40's were flown from the U.S to Europe for Le Mans races...where are you getting your history from?
@joe5700 Jon Wyer oversaw the design/development in their Slough site outside of Windsor. They named it "Ford Advanced Vehicles Limited" . I'm sure they were flown back and forth to the USA for prom purposes and testing at Ford's facility. In talking to one of my friends who owns one of the 67 Mark IVs (yellow #2), he said Ford even painted some of the cars the same color as the winner or promo purposes around the USA. At one point they weren't sure which car was the actual winning car.
Gorgeous car and #2 on my dream car list, also quick note on how tall you have to be, infact you are both right, the original mk1 gt40 Jeremy clarkson could not fit into, but for the great dan gurney who was I believe was 6"3 the mk2 was designed to except what is known as the gurney bubble to the drivers door where the drivers door has a slight raised bubble incorporated into it, and as for replica's and continuation models you can have the pedal box extension and also have the bubble door fit
