@Sodhats: Okay, guess you're right. I bet he would be a terrible lullaby-singer. Poor children would have nightmares if they could sleep at all, haha.
@damedavid I know. Who wants to know about fucking Kronenberg lager during your favorites. Advertising is a nasty, irritating virus that gets everywhere
really weird, i listened to this a few weeks back and had to stop it half way through, then out of nowhere i just got the urge to listen to it again, and now I think it's a fascinating piece of music.
wtf is the bit where he sings about a "swanky suit" all about ? it just comes out of nowhere :- D lol awesome.
I'm an old woman who's mightily impressed with your vid of this masterpiece. I hope you understand what I mean when I say that your editing musicality does HIS cinematic music proud. Does that make sense? Love it. Just love it.
Also, great job on this video, guy! Don't think I didn't notice those edits starting around 1:30, they way they lock in with that erratic snare drum chatter. Good timing, guy!
im not responding to this video but those albums of scott walker are outrageous they are exactly what i want to hear, you should'dt need to explain why they are under the skin, brave unique grand artist.
i love the way you mixed the imagery. it was gripping how you contrasted war footage with everyday life footage. whether intended or not, it makes a statement. wonderful.
once you get this song in your head it is incredibly hard to shake it out. this album is unbelievably strange, beautiful, and utterly addictive. great art.
why mix early footage of Vancouver with footage of an overseas war that didn't start until three decades later? would love it if you uploaded the uneditted vancouver footage!
@kingoftheelves The Footage I think is available online. It was funny it was a couple days after I put the video up on youtube and I saw a still on the front page of the Vancouver Sun, and there was a long article about the trolly footage.
@kingoftheelves The reason for the mix had nothing to do with when the war happened and when the vancouver footage happened. It was first a found footage project, so I worked with what I had. The two together worked really well to outline the idea that while we go about our everyday lives All this other bad stuff is happening around the world.
@heaveymellow I think the main issue here is that the things did not happen at the same time. The Belle Epoque was quite different from World War II, and the footage of the civilian life shows this pretty strongly (many trams were out of use because necessary steel was taken for the war effort, fabric was severely rationed, and homelessness was prominent all over Canada). Also, yes, you worked with what you had, this is what "found footage" means.
Why would the King of Elves give a fuck? Seriously, you are the KING of FUCKING ELVES. Can't you do some kind of tree death magic and destroy Youtube videos that have, what you belive to be, incongruous images with music? Have you ever seen any music video before? Do you even know who Scott Walker is? Probably not because you are too obsessed with your bow and licking toads in your magical boreal forest. The toads should have helped you, at the very least to get this.
Truly disturbing but fascinating music and all the better for knowing Scott Walker's previous torch song reputation. What a talent. He has a great voice but chooses to sing discordant, strange songs.
The Drift scared the living shit of me when I first listened to it. I had never and still haven't heard any other music that made me feel so uncomfortable I wanted to turn it off or get out of the room as quickly as possible. Absolutly terrifying and haunting but morbidly beautiful. Scott is a true artist, a true genius.....
I hope that horror movies could do this to me, some movies cant be very atmospheric but this is so intense, great album i just would like to hear music like this but i dont know anything else like this... but bohren der club of gore- black earth is pretty good doom jazz/horror jazz band ! i recommend it :) 5/5
this is WWI stuff from early 20th century around 1910. I am sure all those people are dead and all those buildings are gone too. Very creep and makes you think what our world will look like to people 100 years from now. Those people probably thought they were living in a modern world!
Good Stuff. The best fan video I've seen. In a perfect world, there is an afterlife, Scott Walker beat us there and is nursing a neverending bottle of gin.
I really enjoyed this. Generally, I can't stand "fan" videos on YT, especially ones that insist on heavy-handedly interpreting the music, but this was done with a craftsman's touch.
He was great 40 years ago! now he´s on his own, another space, another time, THE MOST UNCONFORTABLE ALBUM OF ALL TIME, but i love it and i can not stop hear it!
Scott Walker is on such a different level than most people, and I do believe it is a HIGHER level. It's like staring at a Jackson Pollock painting, only better.
@lunafesto Well said brother, well said. I'm suprised the magical Elves don't get this! Seriously this is the most magika that most mortals have ever seen/heard.

truthfully, if you wish to gain insight, watch "Scott Walker - 30 Century Man" which is a documentary on Scott. Produced by David Bowie, with interviews of Radiohead, Brian Eno, Jarvis Cocker, etc.
Interesting juxtaposition of film and music. The music is brilliant and the editing, in rhythm with the drums, is excellent. I prefer listening to the album (The Drift) on its own, though, preferably very loud in a darkened room. Better than any horror movie.
Actually it was the other way around I chose the song for the footage. I was given footage to work with and had no ideas. None of it had sound so I was listening to music in the background and this song came on and was inspired.

I'm sure Scott Walker has the ability to move and change from different dimensions!
The songs he is writing now, certainly don't belong to the common humanity!
Does he dream them?..Are they something from beyond the edge?..On the other side of midnight?
After listening to Tilt and Drift, I feel like I have just spent a year in a mental institution, and have captured the most horrible dreams!

It's like if the Beatles released two more albums after White that were composed entirely of songs similar to Revolution 9.
