  • Seriously, don't put a fucking ad in front of a Scott Walker song.

  • "face on the pale monkey nails"

only Scott Walker could make this line sound evil.

  • @Soilwar I think "that's a swanky suit" sounding terrifying is more of an achievement.

  • @Sodhats: Okay, guess you're right. I bet he would be a terrible lullaby-singer. Poor children would have nightmares if they could sleep at all, haha.

  • audio and images fits like a hand in glove.well done.

  • Adverts have suddenly appeared on this..ruins my Favorites jukebox moments of pleasure. Argh.

  • @damedavid I know. Who wants to know about fucking Kronenberg lager during your favorites. Advertising is a nasty, irritating virus that gets everywhere

  • really weird, i listened to this a few weeks back and had to stop it half way through, then out of nowhere i just got the urge to listen to it again, and now I think it's a fascinating piece of music.

wtf is the bit where he sings about a "swanky suit" all about ? it just comes out of nowhere :- D lol awesome.

  • Want to know what makes this video even more creepier? Everyone in that video is now dead.

  • well fuck

  • WHAT THE HELL IS THIS MY GOODNESS!

  • i like how he makes music that he obviously puts thought into

  • Not only is Scott Walker's music totally out of this world - but this video is over the TOP! Fantastic job on the editing...

  • I'm an old woman who's mightily impressed with your vid of this masterpiece. I hope you understand what I mean when I say that your editing musicality does HIS cinematic music proud. Does that make sense? Love it. Just love it.

  • nicely done.

Love what you did with those bass hits and the film editing.

  • i like what you did with the drum beats and the footage at the end

  • Great perception. Video journeys well and reflects the sombre lyric. The syncopated editing works well. Good job

  • Also, great job on this video, guy! Don't think I didn't notice those edits starting around 1:30, they way they lock in with that erratic snare drum chatter. Good timing, guy!

  • Scott Walker is fucking crazy.

  • Scott Walker-Songs do always belong. They are born from Mortality. He is very mortal.

  • fucking great song, remembering NicoLinkousFennesz

  • Shamanic edge.

  • Scott is a true visionary. Shamanic edge.

  • I worry about Scott Walker.

  • Scott is a god. An odd god. But a god.

  • 5 people didn't understand a thing... it's sad...

    (adding this to favorites)

  • Early Vancouver and modern Scott Walker - great combo !!

  • Very good work ! The images goes very well with the song. The whole is impressive. Congratulations.

  • im not responding to this video but those albums of scott walker are outrageous they are exactly what i want to hear, you should'dt need to explain why they are under the skin, brave unique grand artist.

  • i love the way you mixed the imagery. it was gripping how you contrasted war footage with everyday life footage. whether intended or not, it makes a statement. wonderful.

  • These lyrics sound like very pretentious album reviews.

  • Awesome video

  • once you get this song in your head it is incredibly hard to shake it out. this album is unbelievably strange, beautiful, and utterly addictive. great art.

  • @TheBullhannigan It's also totally uncompromising. Walker now makes the music he HAS to make for himself and nobody else.

  • Very good album. This Scott i like more than the 60s one.

  • "You can easily picture this in the current Top 10!!!"

  • beautiful

  • very good video editing.

  • why mix early footage of Vancouver with footage of an overseas war that didn't start until three decades later? would love it if you uploaded the uneditted vancouver footage!

  • @kingoftheelves The Footage I think is available online. It was funny it was a couple days after I put the video up on youtube and I saw a still on the front page of the Vancouver Sun, and there was a long article about the trolly footage.

  • @kingoftheelves The reason for the mix had nothing to do with when the war happened and when the vancouver footage happened. It was first a found footage project, so I worked with what I had. The two together worked really well to outline the idea that while we go about our everyday lives All this other bad stuff is happening around the world.

  • @heaveymellow indeed, this is a good video. I apologize for my narrow comment~

  • @heaveymellow I think the main issue here is that the things did not happen at the same time. The Belle Epoque was quite different from World War II, and the footage of the civilian life shows this pretty strongly (many trams were out of use because necessary steel was taken for the war effort, fabric was severely rationed, and homelessness was prominent all over Canada). Also, yes, you worked with what you had, this is what "found footage" means.

  • @kingoftheelves

Why would the King of Elves give a fuck? Seriously, you are the KING of FUCKING ELVES. Can't you do some kind of tree death magic and destroy Youtube videos that have, what you belive to be, incongruous images with music? Have you ever seen any music video before? Do you even know who Scott Walker is? Probably not because you are too obsessed with your bow and licking toads in your magical boreal forest. The toads should have helped you, at the very least to get this.

  • Excellent footage!

  • it all seems too weird...old 1907 movies of Vancouver mixed in with war movies from later years....it just doesn't mesh.......

  • I don't think anyone who listened to the Walker Brothers in the 60's imagined him doing something like this.

  • did vancouver trolley died?

  • nice

  • You could easily picture this in the current Top 10 (3:32).

  • Truly disturbing but fascinating music and all the better for knowing Scott Walker's previous torch song reputation. What a talent. He has a great voice but chooses to sing discordant, strange songs.

  • This sounds great.

  • great vid well done love this track

  • The Drift scared the living shit of me when I first listened to it. I had never and still haven't heard any other music that made me feel so uncomfortable I wanted to turn it off or get out of the room as quickly as possible. Absolutly terrifying and haunting but morbidly beautiful. Scott is a true artist, a true genius.....

  • Good way of putting it.

  • for a similar effect, try diamanda galas' version of "gloomy sunday"

  • the video rocks too. its one of if not my fav video on youtube, in terms of art nd editing

  • I REALLY dig the drums on this track. Spot on.

  • @NosotrosEterno The drumming on this reminds me strongly of "Banging the door" by Public Image limited.

  • this is a tsunami of talent...

  • Aw, this song reminds me of my childhood

  • When you listen to Scott Walker, the temperature of your blood drops. But it was never this rewarding to have cold blood...

  • the guitar is badass

  • You'd never guess this was by the guy who did "Joanna", eh?

  • @66richardson I'm sure he "did" more than one Joanna!

  • a sour sickness, a master piece of agony.

  • file this under "easy listening" he he

  • creepy

  • I hope that horror movies could do this to me, some movies cant be very atmospheric but this is so intense, great album i just would like to hear music like this but i dont know anything else like this... but bohren der club of gore- black earth is pretty good doom jazz/horror jazz band ! i recommend it :) 5/5

  • ya ever wonder if the people in these old movies are dead yet

  • Of course most are. A friend of mine says it's like watching ghosts when you see these olde films. Olde West.

  • this is WWI stuff from early 20th century around 1910. I am sure all those people are dead and all those buildings are gone too. Very creep and makes you think what our world will look like to people 100 years from now. Those people probably thought they were living in a modern world!

  • try this one on shrooms

  • Love this song, makes me feel alive, like Popular music can mean something more than cock cheese, yeah.................

  • Excellent juxtaposition.... great video overall!

  • Great job on the video. So fitting the footage, and cuts.

  • dope tune yo

  • It´s meant to be this way.

  • Good Stuff. The best fan video I've seen. In a perfect world, there is an afterlife, Scott Walker beat us there and is nursing a neverending bottle of gin.

  • I really enjoyed this. Generally, I can't stand "fan" videos on YT, especially ones that insist on heavy-handedly interpreting the music, but this was done with a craftsman's touch.

  • Music and video match in an interesting way, great work!!Wonderful!

  • He was great 40 years ago! now he´s on his own, another space, another time, THE MOST UNCONFORTABLE ALBUM OF ALL TIME, but i love it and i can not stop hear it!

  • Scott Walker is on such a different level than most people, and I do believe it is a HIGHER level. It's like staring at a Jackson Pollock painting, only better.

  • perfect match

    well done

    thanx

  • I'm sure Scott Walker has the ability to move and change from different dimensions!

The songs he is writing now, certainly don't belong to the common humanity!

Does he dream them?..Are they something from beyond the edge?..On the other side of midnight?

After listening to Tilt and Drift, I feel like I have just spent a year in a mental institution, and have captured the most horrible dreams!

  • @lunafesto Well said brother, well said. I'm suprised the magical Elves don't get this! Seriously this is the most magika that most mortals have ever seen/heard.

  • @lunafesto then he has succeeded.

truthfully, if you wish to gain insight, watch "Scott Walker - 30 Century Man" which is a documentary on Scott. Produced by David Bowie, with interviews of Radiohead, Brian Eno, Jarvis Cocker, etc.

  • @lunafesto Even more unsettling is the fact that he sang what would probably be considered the total opposite of this.

It's like if the Beatles released two more albums after White that were composed entirely of songs similar to Revolution 9.

  • nice editing!

  • Really great video. Adds something to the song.

  • he s his own man now.

  • he s a slowburner,11 years between the drift and tilt.but quarantee high quality.

  • Interesting juxtaposition of film and music. The music is brilliant and the editing, in rhythm with the drums, is excellent. I prefer listening to the album (The Drift) on its own, though, preferably very loud in a darkened room. Better than any horror movie.

  • well done

  • wow really nice work man, goes amazingly well to that track (one of my favorite moments on the drift)

  • very good work

  • just perfect!

  • Brilliant and artie editing. Such a deja vu. Must be one of my nightmares..;-)

  • Great video, although WW2 didn't take place in 1907. In fact, WW1 hadn't even taken place at that point either.

  • Haha, replying to my own comment here. I just realized that you didn't mean that WW2 took place then. Nm, sorry.

  • It's totally okay. I was just stating where the clips came from.

  • this video was really well done, it actually looks like an official music video.

  • Thanks :)

  • interesting point, and how did you come in contact with scott walker's music?

    Just by accident?

  • I actually new him from some older stuff from the 60's but never really got into him till a little while back.

  • fuckin super mega fuckin awesome!

  • Why did you chose this footage for the song?

I mean it fits quite well, but what was your intention?

  • Actually it was the other way around I chose the song for the footage. I was given footage to work with and had no ideas. None of it had sound so I was listening to music in the background and this song came on and was inspired.

In the end the intention really became about life going on as normal at home remaining far removed from the horrors of whats going on elsewhere in the world.
