  • But remember, this was not the original flag of Iwo Jima. A few minutes earlier, they initially raised a small flag which could barely be seen.

  • Fly the flag for fuck the private Federal Reserve criminals.

  • thumbs up if "Flags of our fathers" brought you here!

  • IRA HAYES!! ;-)

  • @Meanmodafuckinman May he rest in peace

  • It wasn't as slow and dramatic as I thought it was, haha!

  • @425jeonsa Amen. One thing that I love the military service I was a part of is that serving in the various places you can be stationed has shown me that we are all the same...humans just trying to live our lives the best way we can.

That is why I think that all citizens of the USA should be required to serve at least 2-3 years in military service and serve that time overseas.

Expand your mind. You MIGHT learn something.

  • USA!!

  • Can't wait to get a tattoo of this

  • @xCh34pShOtx

When you do, be sure to make a video so I can give it a thumbs up! I LOVE this footage. Just yesterday I visited the Iwo Jima Memorial near D.C. Couldn't take my eyes off it.

  • Inspiring.

  • @SeparationIsOurRight - Actually, one on the flag raisers were Native American.

  • Why did it take so many dudes to raise that flag?

  • @ManDudeYeah It was a big flag?

  • @360Nomad Was that a question?

  • @ManDudeYeah It was a heavy iron pipe they attached the flag to.

  • The famous photo was a replacement flag raised by 6 people

  • ive seen the original flag! OMG

  • WTF This needs more views...every American needs to see. -_-

  • I was referring to the battle, not the flag raising. Exchanged e mails with the author of Flag of Our Fathers, when he didn't answer the question put to him during a TV interview about the rumor that the famous flag waving picture was staged. Rumor started because Joe Rosenthal got a call asking him if "It" was staged, he thought they meant a posed picture he took after, he said "yes" Author got prissy and said "Of course I know that, its in my book" Why didn't he respond then? wierd

  • this is supposed to have about 1 billion clicks

  • @sigs002 What a fuckin prick if that was me i'd have kicked the shit out of him and made him lick the memorial clean..if anyone else saw i'm sure they'd do the same

  • That still hits me everytime I see it... Wow. It was the Soldier who made this happen, not washington politicians. In all my years traveling around the world in and out of the Military. I can tell you this forever truth, God More Than Shed His Grace On America! Another truth. There are only two people who died to save you and I, Jesus was the first... and the American Soldiers. God has a very special place for our nations finest men and women. Please shake the hand & thank our Military Veterans

  • Thank You.

  • Flags of Our Fathers does a great job of representing this

  • I'm going to leave a bad comment on Justin Bieber video and I will be disliked by 300,000,000 people hehehe..GOD BLESS all our vets who fought for our freedom, they have sacrificed their lives for other people and there is nothing greater than that, They will always be remembered. GOD BLESS them all

  • please tell me why this so historic

  • @starwars501stfan this isnt star wars fantasy, this is real life and death. Its historic because Iwo Jima was a critical battle in WWII and when the soldiers and Marines saw the second larger flag go up a great cheer went up among them. If we hadnt fought them, the US, Japan and the world would be very different places today and you'd be working in some salt mine in Utah for a bowl of rice and a punch in the kidneys

  • @HRMOKeefe1 i didnt mean it in the smart ass sense i have the upmost respect for the milatary i intend on joining the marines when im 18 i just didnt understand it thank you though and btw i made this account when i was 11 so i couldnt change the name

  • @HRMOKeefe1 Got your reply thanks, and I was probably technically wrong about Iwo, is was a100% Marine Corp show, no 'soldiers' there

  • @HRMOKeefe1 To the Marines on Iwo the second flag held no meaning, It was the first one that all Marines remember. 1/400th of a second made these men famous and "heros". They aren't heros for raising a poll with a flag attached to it. They are heros for fighting and saving others lives. Its ironic, the least heroic thing these men did made them famous.

  • lets see i dont know what to call him but my great grandmas brother is ira hayes hes in the back raising the flag

  • @hippiekiller666999 That would make him your Great-great uncle!

  • @don312000 thanks don

  • press 2 for the famous pose

  • Rene Gagnon was one of the men who took place in the flag raising, I can proudly say he's an alumni of the high school i currently go to.

  • pause at 0:03 for the famous picture

  • These men risked their lives for their country and some get no recognition. We live in a ignorant country my brothers. Semper Fi do or die

  • How come this won the pulitzer prize for 1945 but the photograph that won the pulitzer prize for 1970 was the kent state shooting photograph. I don't understand? How come it seems that the iconic war photographs were at one time soldiers raising flags and troops posing with war trophies and now the only photographs that the media really cares about are pictures of civilians and protesters getting shot?

  • Press 2 for the famous photo.

  • the flag was raised on my bday

  • ira hayes. but lets not forget those who also valiantly served, including My Grandfather, and 3 of my Great Uncles.

  • 66 years ago today

  • My great uncle was one of the men lifting the flag

  • @bodietman Which one?

  • @montereypopfestiva67 he was in the first group not this group. He lifted the first flag they took down

  • at a ww2 convention. i met a vet that almost raised the flag. he said he was cleaning his browning automatic rifle, when the order came in to raise the flag. he couldn't make it, but his buddies did

  • 0:03

  • I got chills watching this

  • John Bradley, Ira Hayes, Harlon Block, Franklin Sousley, Mike Strank, Rene Gagnon. Flag Raisers. We salute you.

  • The marine standing on the right while the others were raising the flag at the beginning participated in the first raising. He was later killed. That makes 4 flag raisers who eventually were killed. Two on the far side, the marine pushing the pole at the bottom and the one standing looking out

  • o motha fuckin rah

  • This is perhaps the greatest moment in American history, and people like Bieber get hundreds of millions of views for their videos? Pathetic.

  • @beq451991 How was this the greatest moment in American history? I'd rate the defeat of the British in 1775 or the Emancipation Proclamation as being for more influential in our day to day lives than a flag raising. The Japanese were done on this island and they knew it. Their air forces had been destroyed so they lacked the ability to strike, they were simply hanging on. This pic boosted morale, but it didn't change anything fundamentally.

  • @mahadragon yeah we defeated the British in 1775, but we still fought them until 1781 and then made the Treaty of Paris that ended the war in 1783(the USA didn't exist til 1776 btw) This pic did raise moral, but it also help raise money for the rest of the war, money the government desperately needed to feed and supply the troops.

  • Go to 0:03 for the famous picture part.

  • iwo jima was born in the fire and to get this flag raised on suribachi it was baptised in blood

  • iwo jima was born in the fire and to get this flag raised on suribachi it was baptised in blood

  • later the soviets did the same in berlin

  • damn fine footage of a rare world war 2 scene shot in color

  • pretty damn epic

  • 0:03......the picture that was made history

  • They've completely cut out Ira.

  • suck on it japan!!!!!!!!!!

  • United States Marines, John Bradley, Harlon Block, Franklin Sousley, Rene Gagnon, Ira Hayes and Mike Strank. Flag raisers, Iwo Jima. Please never forget what they and all the rest of our military has done for us. GOD BLESS THEM ALL.

  • @Twom44 sadly three died soon after in conflict

  • Ready for battle, they strap their helmets on, lock and load, ready in seconds, off they go. Thank you my brothers and sisters I say, true Patriots, not Tom Brady, no way. Thanks for protecting our freedom everyday!! Stars and Bars the greatest country I say. Proud to be American, Marines all day, they will never bend or back away. Ferocious in battle Semper Fi I say! God Blless our military, be safe ok. Come home safely to your love ones, I kneel & pray. God Bless our soldiers OOO Rah USMC way

  • @Dan4USCTroy Stars and bars was the confederates flag nickname like the Union is stars and stripes

  • the guy on the far Right who was raising the Flag is Harlon Block

  • my great great grandfather was one of the flag raisers

  • the people who faught in ww2 deserve thanks for their brave and noble fighting

  • my grandfather was fighting on Iwo JIma. But he is not in the video.

  • My great uncle is in this video. His name was Cpl. Earl C. Hart. When they're raising it he is standing, and looking up at it.

  • @metalmaniac622

  • @metalmaniac622 Wow... He Is Truley A Hero Of America Just Like Everyone Else Who Fought For Freedom God Bless Him.

  • @metalmaniac622 i salute him for that. you must be proud of him

  • @metalmaniac622 is he still alive if so tell him he kicks ass

  • @redpoopsicle Not just the men rasing but everyone that fought

  • @redpoopsicle Wow bro, thats awsome... I read this book called "The Flags of Our Fathers" & it's about the six flag raisers, and I read about Rene Gagnon & his experiences, truely amazing my respects.

  • @redpoopsicle and @metalmaniac622 Lucky asses....

  • @redpoopsicle u are a bullshit liar, Rene Gangnon had no siblings u liar, people like u always lie on youtube, make me sick u fuckin shit

  • @Kepachodude why would you say that? Rene Gagnon had brothers and sisters. Trolls like you that come into a great movie clip ruin everything. It is people like you that make me sick, and embarrassed of little 12 year old dumb shits that think that the word of Google is the word of god. Go Fuck yourself, sincerely, a person that actually is telling the truth.

  • @redpoopsicle P.S., you might want to touch up on your research...

  • @metalmaniac622 is he still living?

  • @metalmaniac622 , God bless You

  • well, in fact this is not authentic. it was replayed because the first time when the flag was risen, the war reporter didn´t like it, so tehy made this one for propaganda.

  • @Fuma159159 It is authentic, genius. It was the second flag raising (they wanted a bigger one on Surabachi). No reporter orchestrated it.

  • @omegaman196601

if you mean so... i don´t think that.

  • @Fuma159159 Not correct...the Marines had raised a smaller flag but decided on a larger one, and that is what is in this film. When the photog replied "yes" to being asked if it was staged, he was thinking of another pic he took a little while later with the marines and sailor standing in front of the already-raised flag. This film and the iconic photo are 100% genuine.

  • @don312000

hmm ok you could be right... maybe i´ve just misunderstood something.

  • @Fuma159159 It's actually a pretty common misconception stemming from the photog's "yes" answer...he didn't know that this particular pic had become so popular, and just assumed the reporter was asking about the later, posed pic of the men in front of the flag, rather than the actual raising itself.

  • Too bad three of the marines who raised the flag were later killed.

  • 00:04 i think thats when the photo was taken

  • @mckelroy88 i think it was more lik :03.5 cuz u can see iras hand is reaching for the post in the picture at that time

  • hmm gives me chills and brings tears to my eye's every time i think of the brave souls that was lost for this great moment in history and most of all for our freedom

  • Awesome!!!

  • who were the flag raisers?

the only ones i know are Ira,Franklin and Bradley.

  • why does one of the greatest moments in american history have only 60k views, but the Justin Bieber baby has 300, 000, 000 views.

  • aaaaaaarrrrrrggh....never tought of that before.

I´m not american but you just made me the most depressed person in the world.

  • @xenomann442 It's a nutty world we live in!!!!

  • @xenomann442 i was thinking the same thing...its fucking sad....

  • @xenomann442 For the same reason we let our gov't just do what it wants to us. We have truly become sheep.

  • @Toddinfantry Same Over Here What Happened To The Old World..

Were People Fought For What Was Right

    Not Oil..

  • @xenomann442 Outstanding comment.

  • @xenomann442 Because your pathetic country doesnt give a shit lol

  • @xenomann442 Sad i know.

  • @xenomann442 All those 300,000,000 have no idea what sacrifices men and women in uniform have made or will continue to make. The think Justin Bieber is God.

  • @xenomann442 because this is dumb and people like his musix

  • @xenomann442 bcus j-biebs is canadian

  • @xenomann442 In our modern world people care more about music then the people who, if they didn't fight, protected it. People are losing disrespect, people don't even say the Pledge anymore, its all mumbles and silence.

  • @xenomann442 Very good quastion. We in Russia say: PC-users are hamsters.

  • @xenomann442 I'll tell you why. Because 1.) These days ignorance = being cool 2.) Idiots who hate him keep going to his video to say how stupid it is

  • @seddiquiali Its real

  • WOOOOW.

    Nice find.

  • those guys never knew that that photo was taken they didnt even know they would be heros

  • americans in general basis are fuckin dumb as we can see in these comments here..symbol minded people

  • Yeah Americans are dumb that's why Portugal has a gdp per capita equivalent to America's poorest state...fuck off Euro trash, nobody even cares your country exists.

  • @NJRocks281 thank you for illustrating my point with your comment!!!All you can think about is MONEY...and about the euro trash thing, what comes to my mind is that you´re DUMB enough to don´t even know where your ancestors came from.....or......are you an Indian?Navajo?...Apache?Or are you descendent of the filthiest of the euro trash dumb motherfuckers that went to that part of the world and murdered who lived there?

  • @zedascouves78 Thats becuase this flag, or symbol as you said, is a representation of the freedoms we enjoy and the blood that was shed to protect these freedoms. This flag and flag raising means that we as Americans are allowed to say and do what we want because of men like this. If believing in that flag, that symbol, is stupid, then I am extremly stupid and proud of it. God Bless America.

  • @zedascouves78 -hey dumb asshole. Stay away from this site. We don't need your loser, eurotrash opinions. Oh, and go fuck yourself while you are at it.

  • @zedascouves78 you mean SIMPLE minded people? Yeah, way to fail. America will kick your countries ass any day, and everybody knows it.

So from Uncle Sam to you,

    ..l.,

  • That's some wind

  • I see this event and it fills me with not only pride but peace in knowing we will survive win and prosper.

  • Semper Fi.

  • stupid americans

  • @aramg289 ahahaha that's why americans are stupid. mY gandpa also fighted and didn't died, he actually is alive with 103 years old, who's stupid now fucking gringo?

  • @ulquiorrashinigami Maybe you should polish up your English before you call other people stupid.

  • @Salguine I'm not in an english speaking country that's why my english is a little bad

  • @Salguine You still seem like a dick.

  • @ulquiorrashinigami you probably just said that for attention but why are we stupid and how does that pertain to the flag raising?

  • @BigDaddy687 random moment lol

  • It's the most reproduced photo in history. I cannot watch it without my chest swelling with pride.

  • what a beautiful sight. dont you guy's agree?

  • @bikepeddlar6 Every real American does agree!

  • @logancody05 as they should

  • Awesome, gave me goose bumps.

  • Awesome, gave me goose bumps.

  • IRA HAYES , WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU PAL

  • what pisses me off is that the USMC Memorial in DC does not look exactly like the photo, why did they change it for the statue? it should have been sculpted to look like a perfect replica of the photo.
