the benefit of a man like Finkelstein is his ability to state the facts, not he opinions, and to address crisis based on the truth of what has been proven, shown, and known. It is already feeling Isolated and that will only increase with time, because of just what you just said...Israel has no use for international law. Eventually, countries will refuse to trade with Israel (economic sanctions) and eventually the world will act in force against Israel for compliance. If the the US ever abandons Israel, this will happen in quick succession. BTW, the US is worst than any!

@Greywind30 I firmly believe that if Israel were to work within the framework that has been in place since Resolution 242, they would immediately win the world over and then if they were attacked, the world would support them without question. I realize that it's a bit of a gamble, but when you consider the technology and military might of Israel, I believe they would be able to thwart any potential attack before they suffered any significant damage. I believe that if Israel were to get a promise of peace from both Fatah and Hamas, it would be wise to take a chance by withdrawing to the 1967 lines. Of course there are the very difficult questions of the refugees and East Jerusalem. I think these two issues will be the biggest challenge for both sides to compromise.

@yoramstein Jordan annexed the territory when Israel declared independence in 1948, and Israel annexed the territory after the Six Day War. The West Bank legally belongs to the Palestinian people who's families have lived there for dozens of generations. No one is suggesting that the West Bank be returned to Jordan, or that the Ottoman Empire should be reconstructed. What the Palestinian Independence movement believes is that the Israel should end it's occupation of the territory.

the benefit of a man like Finkelstein is his ability to state the facts, not he opinions, and to address crisis based on the truth of what has been proven, shown, and known. He is considered anti-Israel because he exposes the lies that support the paradigm of that state. He does not cheer the terrorists on either side. He does not support Palestinian murder any more or less(at all) than Israeli murder. Rather than a dividing point, Finkelstein should be regarded as a historian and a philosopher.

The Israeli occupation has been going on for 40+ years and has gotten progressively worst in terms of human rights violations. People around the world become outraged when they see Arab homes in the illegally occupied territories being bulldozed in order to build illegal settlements, when they see Jewish only roads and just a constant denial of basic human rights to Arabs. It is already feeling Isolated and that will only increase with time, because of just what you just said...Israel has no use for international law. Eventually, countries will refuse to trade with Israel (economic sanctions) and eventually the world will act in force against Israel for compliance. If the the US ever abandons Israel, this will happen in quick succession. BTW, the US is worst than any!

@Greywind30 I firmly believe that if Israel were to work within the framework that has been in place since Resolution 242, they would immediately win the world over and then if they were attacked, the world would support them without question. I realize that it's a bit of a gamble, but when you consider the technology and military might of Israel, I believe they would be able to thwart any potential attack before they suffered any significant damage. Just my opinion and hope.

I believe that if Israel were to get a promise of peace from both Fatah and Hamas, it would be wise to take a chance by withdrawing to the 1967 lines. Of course there are the very difficult questions of the refugees and East Jerusalem. I think these two issues will be the biggest challenge for both sides to compromise.

Admittedly, I sometimes loose sight of that fact in my defense of a perceived injustice. My wife is 1/2 Jewish and my Father-in-Law is Israeli born in Russia. I love them to no end. If he ever found out that I was defending Palestinians, I would be disowned. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

No matter what Israel does, they would need to leave entirely to please all of the warring factions.
Even if all but Hamas agrees to peace, then Hamas will make sure that nothing changes.

@yoramstein Jordan annexed the territory when Israel declared independence in 1948, and Israel annexed the territory after the Six Day War. The West Bank legally belongs to the Palestinian people who's families have lived there for dozens of generations. No one is suggesting that the West Bank be returned to Jordan, or that the Ottoman Empire should be reconstructed. What the Palestinian Independence movement believes is that the Israel should end it's occupation of the territory.

This is not about white people, black people, or purple people, but rather of justice. Palestinians have nothing against white people anymore than Jews do. They both consider themselves Caucasian. It is a question of justice vis-a-vis an indigenous population and ending the conflict and not about race. Judaism used to be a religion that converted people in large numbers, but the Catholic Church stopped that. They hated Judaism, so stopped the spread of it. Jews of Europe are mixed.

Actually, it is kind of an exaggeration to say European Jews are Khazars. There were many Sephardic Jews in Europe who mixed with other Jews, and Europe had Jews who came during the Roman Empire. If you say you want a bi-national democratic state it's not anti-Semitic. Wanting to destroy the state and kill its Jewish inhabitants is anti-Semitism.

That is simply untrue. The only Jews who opposed creation were a small minority of Jews with a different opinion. Most Jews wanted the state created - in fact, they tried to create the state even before the holocaust. Had there been a state, the holocaust would have been minimalized and Jews would have had a place to seek refuge. Israel has every right to exist. Hell, even the U.N. who is anti Israel, proposed the bill to grant it international approval for creation (1947 Partition Plan).

Did you do the research? Reform Judaism in Europe when Herzl proposed his idea and Orthodox Jews and Miskalim opposed idea, that's not a minority. The partition plan was a recommendation by General Assembly.
It was non-binding, the UN Security Council rejected it, and some states in the General Assembly were pressured by other states to vote a certain way. It's not so clear cut, but Jewish opposition to Zionism was very strong in the Jewish community until the holocaust happened.

He may need Sennakot, he says that the state had nobody in the military support civilian casualties. That's not what the Dahya Doctrine implies. The Northern Command said villages would be treated as military bases. How does that jive with the Geneva Convention?

The majority of Jews supported it. The Orthodox community rejected it until the location was promised to be Eretz Yisrael. Then most Orthodox supported it. It really is not relevant though. Regardless of how many Jews supported the state, it nevertheless had the right to exist. I am done arguing it's right to exist b/c I know the truth. Now, if you want to continue to argue, please take it up with the IDF.

i would say he is probably the most disrespectful by way of demeaning. in a debate he always has to elaberate on the sham that is his opposition's academic conditionals and work. some of you may know about the academic acceptance complex he has. im not impartial to all his views, just making an observation.
