@BasicModelling I am going to the US for 5/6 weeks I am taking 6 models just got them today and some filler finally! and paints with me I will try to use method 1 but if not this one do you know if you are all allowed to take glue on a plane ? :) nice video
@thehjupo I don't know at all if you can take glue on board or not.. best option is to ring the company you are flying with as each airline have their own rules, more or less, I think.. You can probably take glue in the main luggage but not in the hand luggage, I would imagine.. :)
i doubt you have but if you've ever been to the Patton museum in fort knox, kentucky they have a 1:15 scale solid silver tank at the end of the tour its amazingly bright , it kinda blinds you. This was off topic...
Indeed I do.. will be restoring my Lancaster bomber tonight, for the show on Sunday.. it needs the broken off machine guns replaced! A friend of mine in the club has promised to bring a box big enough for me to take it in, as I haven't got one myself.. we all help each other out! :)
This will be the last show I'll attend before October.. There may be another club trip, as there's a nice Tank museum not far from here, but other than that it'll be a break over the summer now.. :) Last year I only went to ONE show, but I enjoy them so much now, so try and make the most of it when I can.. :)
Blown polystyrene and cocktail sticks is the better method, but this works fine.. I will have to use a similar technique to this for my Lancaster on Sunday, as I'm bringing it to the RAF Hendon show, but haven't got a box big enough to take it.. :) It will be ALL Airfix kits on the table.. the club had a very succesful display doing that at another show, and hope to repeat the success again.. it is Airfix 70th Anniversary this year.. :)
Ah.. Thank you! I was waiting for that question... but that would work the same way, believe it or not... especially if you use a wooly cardigan! I have seen it work, and one of the better modellers in the club always use that method.. :)
Only the box lid... weighing down the model by putting something directly on top of it rather defies the purpose in this case.. Here the box itself restricts movement, but normally, if you use a cardiigan in a bigger box, the various bulges and shapes of the clothing keeps the models in position.. it seems.. :) I still prefer the blown styrene / toothpick method though..
I wish I had thought of that in 2007. I was trundling my 1/35th Dora railgun around in a large crate i built for it. 80 inches long,24 inches high, and 15 inches wide. I wonder how many sweaters or towels that would require???
You have built the .. WHAT??? I have only seen that model built up once, and it is mightily impressive!! Congratulations to you for your achievement.. With a model like that a specially designed crate surely is to be preferred.. I wouldn't risk using anything else... :) :)
I'm surprised it hasn't arrived yet.. One of the prizewinners in the US got his parcel 2 days ago, and the winner in the Philippines received his yesterday.. but apart from the one in the UK, none of the European parcels have yet arrived.. :P
It works well.. but for longer distances (like travelling around Europe over 6 days or so) I would still recommend the blown styrene and toothpick method... :)
nifty...and if the model does not fit, use what my mechanical engineer son called 'impact maintenance' - a hammer :) ok,not quite right but I'd been waiting to use that for some time so this is it :)
i mistakenly hit the thumb down icon...i have done that before...too bad yt doesn't allow one to change ...engines are known to be tough enough to withstand hammers :)
@BasicModelling thanks I will

That gave me an idea how to models if needed. Thanks!

this is good, I do a lot of transporting of models, I just used a box and hoped to god that it wouldn't slip around, this helps!

How would i transport a model plane with landing gear?

What if the box isn't big enough - can you b reak the wings off?
randomwritings 2 years ago
granskare already suggested that.. but no, the solution is to get a bigger box.. :)
Your theory is often practised though, especially when it comes to model helicopters... :)
BasicModelling 2 years ago
oh I see and if the box is too big you make a bigger model - got it now
randomwritings 2 years ago
Spot on.. :)

No protection on the top? Curious.

That was my first thought also. I bet it has to do with the one arm filming.

I should have set up the tripod.. :) Lesson learnt.. :)

Ii will PM you a few pictures, later. I got a Silver at AMPS East,in 2007, and a Judges choice, and Armor line judge award at Baycon 2007.
Blargaldalien 2 years ago
Well done!! The one I saw had a room all to itself at the show... :) :) Thay do take up a little bit of space.. :)
BasicModelling 2 years ago
At AMPS,it was on its own table, near the registration table. Had a large crowd of people around it the whole time.

It's worth trying... at your own risk, of'course.. :) But I prefer the other method, as demonstrated in video 1.. :)
BasicModelling 2 years ago
Ha! You almost lost it in a video about safe packaging. That would have been funny, I mean sad, but funny.
:P

:O Are you suggesting to completely destroy the model? :)
ModelbuildingTANKS 2 years ago
lol, it was a facetious remark:)
granskare 2 years ago
Sarcasm. Isn't that the same thing as being Faceadfeous? :) I know I spelled it wrong.
ModelbuildingTANKS 2 years ago
to tell the truth, I had to find it in my dictionary :) so my spelling is correct...and other terms for it : lightly joking, jocular, etc :)
granskare 2 years ago
The modelling fraternity appreciates the fact that you're NOT a modeller... :) :)
BasicModelling 2 years ago
hmmm, so what is the frat going to pay to keep me away from modeling ? :)
I'm trying to learn from our former governor, Blagojavich :)
granskare 2 years ago
We're only too keen for you to join the ranks.. just leave the hammer at home.. :)
BasicModelling 2 years ago
but, but, if the engine does not fit, it would need some 'persuasion' for which a hammer is especially designed. :)
granskare 2 years ago
:0 uh oh. Poor engine.
ModelbuildingTANKS 2 years ago
i mistakenly hit the thumb down icon...i have done that before...too bad yt doesn't allow one to change ...engines are known to be tough enough to withstand hammers :)

Wish yt could allow one to change. That would be very bad. Hopefully it can be fixed.

I prefer the other method, with the styrene and toothpicks, but in this case the little glider fitted perfectly in the box it came in.. :)

It works, but this was just a small scale demonstration, if you pardon the pun..
