My goodness! You should read the novels by Ian Fleming! Bond is an alcoholic and a smoker who dislikes his work and has moral scruples. The true Bond is a rather small, vulnerable and pensieve man, and not just a superman-like gigolo as the previous Bond films (and actors like e.g. Brosnan - oh my God, I hate him!) have suggested.

There are only two actors who are - in my opinion - able to come close to Fleming's Bond: Sean Connery and Daniel Craig.

I think Craig makes a great Bond too. I think people were opposed to him because they were simply afraid of change, but he's proven himself a worthy fellow. The whole idea of Bond got remade with him though -- it's darker, less gadgets, less of a playboy lifestyle, and a lot of the supporting cast was eliminated (Moneypenny, Q, etc.)
