i have several 327's - big and small journal blocks, steel cranks, ect.. gonna build one for my 57 chevy. just about got all my parts together to build one. nice engine here though- guess i'll put it on u-toob when i finsh it
@x13neon - i have a big journal block that i would sell. its bored .030 - its already been dipped and checked for cracks, got new freeze plugs and cam bearings already installed- its been line bored also-- , but i have quite a few bucks in it- the engine is together with a 10/20 cast crank and new 030 trw piston 2 valve relief type ( but never cranked). it has fuelie heads on it 202 intake and 160 exhaust valves SS.. i was building it for a dirt track camaro car but ive changed my mind
@BoogdieB The 327 sounds unique because it does not have the common 3.48" stroke of the 305 and 350 engines. The 327 is essentially a 350 (4" bore) with a shorter 3.25" stroke. The shorter stroke changes the exhaust note and makes the engine more revvy. I love the way 327's sound. The headers do make any engine sound better IMO. It does appear that they are running an exhaust as it doesn't sound like open headers to me.
The 327 was the flagship small block in the horsepower wars of the 60`s and she delivered. I`ve built many a small block, but the 327 remains my favorite.
@forrestrocks1980: both have 4" bores, the 327 has a 3.25" stroke, the 350 has a 3.48" stroke. The 302 has a 3" stroke. Considered over-square dimensions. Shorter stroke revs faster but you need to shift with high R's. Played with 327's and 350's. The 327's had a sweet spot when matched with proper heads, cam and intake, which made them so popular. The small blocks were very affordable. To answer your question, the main journals were different if I remember right. -been a while...
@pdurod there is 2 different versions of 327 small journal 68-69 and later 327 were large journal same block just different guts (large journal) as the 350 i currently have a 350 that really is a 327 had a bad 327 block but good guts so........
i want one of these for a 1939 Buick that i might buy that needs to be restored and currently has no engine. and whats with the weird typing and stuff? it keeps wanting to freeze. The new youtube sucks.
Oh Great, Another plug-wire critic. I have a 1960 Biscayne 4dr sedan that ran 11:56@123 mph. Pump gas, street tires, small block 4-speed, single four, naturally aspirated. I posted pics on the 348-409 website to talk to guys about X-frame suspension geometry and I was subject to ridicule for my plug wires as well. So I guess when thats the only thing they can find to bitch about, you've got a mill that makes a grown man pout like a child !!!!
i have a 1964 c/10 with a 327 i dont know much about beefin them up so i was hoping u could give me a few words of wisdom on what i can do to it without breaking my wallet. im lookin for about 500hp
skip to 1:35 for best sound ever

The headers whats giving that the good sound? You run exhaust on your test runs?

is a 327 the same size of block as a 350 just a smaller stroke? With a smaller stroke it revs faster?

One of my friends was trying to tell me that back in the muscle car days there was a stock 327 with 500 horsepower is that true? or even with a 427?
b5lampster2 1 year ago
@b5lampster2 that is false... Maybe with a 427 but definitely not a 327

Only thing I don't like are the plug wires hanging over the valve covers. Run them underneath.

nos, or a blower, no cheap way to squeeze 500 hp out of a 327, there is no replacement for displacement.
