  • So...the right thing to do is fuck all?

  • See, this is why I like Futurama more than other shows. They can have a take a controversial topic, make a good episode about, and not come out sounding like a strawman mouthpiece.

  • ...WOW. I FEEL SO FUCKING ENLIGHTENED. SO FUCKING ENLIGHTENED.

  • @lordfatner It's actually called t

"The Last Question." Great read though

  • read "The Ultimate Question" by Isac Asimov, then realize that this is one of the best and smartest dialogue of all time...

  • Despite this being a satirical show, this really is true, part of the reason why I love this episode. "When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all." and "Right and wrong are just words, it's what you do that matters." Both are very true.

  • this has more to do with the philosophy of god than with the nature of god himself.

matts intellect at display right here.

  • One of the smartest interpertations of God I've ever seen.

  • Spore!

  • The whole point of this clip was'nt to bring up the debate of whether or not God exists. It was to point out that it is an impossible question to answer, and ijust as impossible to even find Him/Her. Moreover the whole concept of a God is so unfathomable that we would not even recognise God or even his way of reasoning. In this scene bender says "You can't count on God for jack!, If we don't rescue the monks(in the telescope) nobody will" illustarting that God actually intervened through bender.

  • Now stop, hammer teim

  • i think making a video that has anything to do with god is just begging to be annoyed because of all the idiots who think theres any point in arguing about religion haha but thanks anyway this is really cool

  • i think people who are arguing wheater god exist or not, it's really pointless... lots of people are forgetting that our EXPERIENCES are our true knowledge and the great fundamental teacher. that means that our common sense and knowledge are all different because we all have experience different things that got to believe what we believe today. some people may have experience something beyond this realm, god per say... maybe others havent :) dont forget guys, our exerpiences are the truth!

  • Isn't yivo from the futurama movie beast with a billion backs supposed to be heaven?

  • @Redjoker96 i think so. it did look like heaven and remember the only thing that would hurt him/her/it was the material from yivo body

  • This explains so much... Billy West is God!

  • That's not God that's my shinning poop

  • why is this so true.

  • I want to write a song about trolling.

P.S. ~ GD I love this part of Futurama.

  • @heystripper It's already been written. Trolololololol search on youtube.

  • This interpretation of God is the most valid I have come to formulate really, I don't want to argue about it, but I came to the fact that if it were to speak in any manner it would be binary, then I remembered this episode. Genious!

  • When you do things right, people won´t be sure you´ve done anything at all!!!<---- :) it´s great :D

  • this is actually a pretty deep episode

  • Uni-verse means one verse. And in the beginning God said... he spoke things into being. Hence Uni-verse or one verse.

  • @whitadow I hope you're saying that ironically, else your ignorance is astounding.

  • @PhyOSPhyOS Not being ironic. You don't believe God spoke things into being? Why is conception called conception. Because in the mind of God you were a concept before you came into being. Lets talk about things :)

  • @whitadow Not being ironic? Then please, do a quick Google search about the etymology of the word "universe". Conception is called conception because that's how whe defined such an idea with our intelligence, although its written representation is pretty much arbitrary. It's a human concept. And no, God didn't "speak things into being". Even if there was a God, which there isn't, you're just making that up.to suit your views.

  • @whitadow I would waste my time arguing with you about senseless things (AKA The never-ending topic of God and its existence), but I know religious/faithful people, and I don't really see the point in arguing with someone that doesn't come to conclusions through logic and reasoning. I might as well just talk to a wall, I could even end up learning something that way.

  • @PhyOSPhyOS "I would waste my time arguing with you..." you already want to argue instead of having a civil conversation and be willing to agree to disagree? Science is a belief as is religion. So you gonna run away?

  • @whitadow See? That's why I don't want to argue with someone who doesn't even have an elementary knowledge base, like you. "Science is a belief", that's all I need to read to confirm it. Come back to me when you have something more substantial than a mere uneducated opinion like any other.

  • @PhyOSPhyOS It's OK to put me down, it's just self projection. If science is pure truth why are there so many theories? Science is to make observations and draw conclusions from them.

  • @whitadow Science isn't pure truth. The word "science" means "getting closer to the truth." And the word "theory" means "a proposed explanation for a phenomenon that has been tested and proved, while yet to be disproved." A theory and an idea are exact opposites -- a theory has been proved and has never been disproved, while an idea is a potential explanation for a phenomenon but has not been proved. Ergo, a theory is concrete until the day you can disprove it. Sorry to butt in, but shut up. :)

  • @heystripper Lol

  • @heystripper The definition of theory is "A supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, esp. one based on general principles independent of the thing to be...: "Darwin's theory of evolution" So they're not exact opposites according to the dictionary.

  • @whitadow Have you been to, at the very least, a community college? Because I currently attend the #1 public university in the country, as did my father. You'd understand what PhyOSPhyOS and I mean if you had, at the very least, a high school education.

I will probably have unprotected sex on your grave.

P.S. ~ I am involved in an interracial gay relationship. We regularly burn the American flag and have unprotected sex on it with 10 of our other interracial, gay friends. Can you deal?

  • @heystripper Yes I have also had a scholarship to a University. My best friend graduated from Yale. All 3 siblings in my family have Bachelor degrees (one has two). My father and mother also have bachelor degrees as well as masters.

"I will probably have unprotected sex on your grave." You reap what you sow. For your well being I'd say don't do it but God gave you free will so it's your decision.

It doesn't bother me what you do with your life. It's on you not me.

  • @whitadow STOP trolling people and *ENJOY* the video.... my goodness.

You replied and people simply answered back, geez. What's with people and religion that makes EVERY side complete jerks and extremists?

Religion to me is totally nuetral. I don't believe in a "God" per say, but I do believe that people are different and everyone just need to *tolerate* that. People can choose whether or not to believe.

I'm a extreme right brain thinker working as either an artist or a designer.

  • @whatayaDO543 Yes, we all have our opinions as you do and we are all allowed to say whatever we want because of free will.

  • @whitadow Another gem of yours, "it's just self projection". I see you're now going for indirect ad hominem, although I assume it's yet another product of your ignorance and you're not even aware of it, as it doesn't apply in this context.

Your question has already been answered by 'heystripper', but to make it simpler to you I'll add that medicines work whether you believe in them or not, as science is a description of reality (and therefore it just works), not a simple belief as you say.

  • @PhyOSPhyOS "medicines work whether you believe in them or not" I believe herb is a medicine because it's a natural plant. But the RX pharmacy kills more and more people each year. If you take a bottle of advil you will die. Doesn't seem science has done a great job with medicine.

  • @whitadow Seriously now, are you a troll? Because you certainly talk like one. I shouldn't have to explain this, not even to an elementary school kid, but I see I'll have to put it in an even simpler way: Does the TV, the computer, the car, the light and water installation at home, the heating system, the printer, the internet, etc. work depending on whether you believe it or not?

  • @whitadow Don't the building structures hold up instead of spontaneously collapsing? Don't medical procedures work if all goes according to plan? Why do you think there's no belief involved in any of that? Because it's science.

  • @PhyOSPhyOS Medical procedures don't always go according to plan and even if they did they fail sometimes. The TV takes away individual thought, spreads propaganda, makes people lazy, is a form of hypnosis, etc. That's why it's called tele-vision, it tells you how to view things. There would have to have been a point where someone believed it was possible to make these things before they came into being. So your left brained?

  • @PhyOSPhyOS I figured your "argument" wouldn't stand strong like the twin towers ("Don't the building structures hold up instead of spontaneously collapsing?"). Hopefully you can learn to have conversations with people in the future instead of trying to warrant an "argument" Peace :)

  • @whitadow My 'argument' has been the same throughout the conversation, whether you understand it or not (which you don't, apparently).

Hopefully in the future you'll be able to use common sense, until then, see you.

  • @PhyOSPhyOS Well I did notice you've been "arguing" the same and I under-stand it. You say apparently which means I you could be wrong in your statement. Some people have sense and others cents.

  • @whitadow Watch this video "evidence for giants nephilim rephaim anunnaki part 1" watch all the parts. Just listen with ears to hear and use your eyes to see.

  • @whitadow Are you a fucking idiot? Tele (from afar) vision (sight). That's right, its name literally references the ability to see things from far away. I was going to keep reading your little string of comments, but there's no point if the only thing I'll find is bullshit like this.

  • @Lookin4aBoxToLive Yeah I know what it means by definition. Tele does indeed mean from afar and vision means sight. I know this. And when you see things from far away how many important details/truths are you missing? Just don't give up re-search. It's all there.

  • @JesusChristisMuslim أنيك أمك يا لوطي يا شاذ يا عبد المكاوي و الأطياز............................ملعون يا عبيد الشيطان و ملعونة طقوسكم اللوطية الشاذة

  • I wonder if the voice of God was inspired by Carl Sagan's voice...

  • This is a reflection of my life work. Figures...

  • You know, this episode is oddly reverent for a show that's effectively a fallback for scientists.

  • @IoEstasCedonta

Because scientists are all Atheists, right? You'd be surprised at how many actually believe in a higher power or God himself.

  • @Xeranx ...roughly 7%?

No, can't say I'm that surprised.

  • wow for some weird reason when i first saw this episode those words really stuck to me

  • what,so its not morgan freeman? :(

  • 0:07

Spore,How would you create your Universe ?

  • Battling years of depression and seeing therapists for 5 years, all it took was to watch one episode of futurama and it changed my life

  • i love family guy. because it's anti-religion. BOO YAH!

  • is it just me or does the galaxy look A LOT like the spore game selection screen?

  • @gmfk07 Well if you fly to the center of the galaxy in Space mode, God will give you an Uber Tool, so it may very well have been the inspiration.

Cool Easter Egg to do btw :3

  • @gmfk07 thats what i thought

  • I FELT SO GREAT AFTER WATCHING THIS EPISODE *goosebumps*

    .

Hands down, the best, most classy, most though provoking Futurama episode to date.

    .

    .

  • The internet: where religions come to die.

  • Hey fellow Futurama fans! We just finished an animated pilot that we're trying to get picked up. Take a look on our main page and let us know what you think!

  • Why the fuck does this give me tingles? :S

  • thumbs up if u thought that was spore :D

  • Do remember people this is a cartoon, merely to laugh at. Just like religion, it's completely fictional.

  • @Trinexx360 You're opening a big can of worms buddy :P

  • This is exactly how I imagine God!

  • Sorry, O jolex because I misstated Here

  • Does that include sex? ...depressing...

  • I've always thought Futurama's interpretation of God is incredible. Especially with that recent episode with the evolving robots...

  • No religious debates on this thread? I'm surprised, and a little worried...

  • @AgApE010 Brace yourself, it will come....

  • X. Amreka

  • لماذا لا يوجد بل عربي

  • @TheJo00oker I don't know what you wrote, but i like those letters you use.

  • Thats my favorite quote:) "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all"

  • Why does this feel like imported straight from the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy?

  • A galaxy within a galaxy?

    GALAXINCEPTION!

  • @evenflowist loool read my mind truss me !

  • "A wise man once said that nothing ever really dies, it just comes back in a different form. And then he died. So the next time your about to step on a lowly Salamander, think twice about it, It just might be you! Stand by for reincarnation!"

  • @Popcultureguy3000

I wouldn't step on it anyways but if it a bug I would.

  • @Scionwoods That was a quote from Futurama's Galaxy God Entity from the very beginning of the 6th season finale "Reincarnation". That's why he said "Stand by for reincarnation". It was supposed to be a joke on Buddhism because the first Buddha died after saying nothing truly dies.

  • The writer of this episode is now an atheist.

  • @Jakedastudly

    "is now"? he always was

  • better italian version

  • Best. Line. Ever.

  • Best episode.

  • I believe an alien is our God. To me its far more believeable that the most intelligent ape was singled out to have 'consciousness' and injected with man serum by alien visitors, than some all knowing creator made the entire universe, and people out of ribs and stuff.

  • @Pentdad Actually, about the ribs stuff... the Garden of Eden story wasn't meant to be taken so literally. From what I've studied at Uni., it seems that many of the Old Testament's writings, were not intended to be taken literally. That's why there were Hebrew scholars. It was their job to figure out what it meant; whether it was the literal truth, an allegory, etc...

It's apparently only in recent centuries that things went down the pan with "It's all 100% what happened!"

  • @SeraphimSwordmaster I agree my Brother, I believe they are like Eisops fables (spelled that wrong!), which are tall tales that have a very moral message. The US fundamentalist lobby, who campaign for such ridiculous things as teaching creationism over natural selection, their hatred of queer men (despite the decree of 'love thy neighbour, and even 'love thy enemy!'), and suchlike give Christianity a terrible backward image.

  • @Pentdad Which is exactly why I define myself as a theist but don't align myself with any particular label of religion.

I believe in God; not the words of human beings that can manipulate things to suit their own needs. It's sad, but let's face it, there are bad guys in every major institution in the world. Religion, unfortunately, is no different.

  • @SeraphimSwordmaster What is your main reason for believing in God?

  • @Pentdad Nothing particularly. My parents are more or less agnostic and I didn't really have a religious upbringing. It's just one of those things that I do. Like an equation that just -works- in my brain.

I don't buy the idea that the universe is a cosmic coincidence or that we're here for no real reason, and the idea of a multiverse just seems like replacing one creator for another. Occam's Razor just wins out in the end.

  • @SeraphimSwordmaster I love your wonderful faith, but occams razer would not place a 'God' as creator, because you would then have to explain how that God got there in the first place. Much more likely stuff just happens with no real purpose.

  • @Pentdad I understand what you're saying, but personally that just doesn't work in my brain. If stuff "just happened" without any rhyme or reason behind it, it would be impossible to make as much sense of our world as we have done.

  • @SeraphimSwordmaster Picking one single God amongst infinite possible ones (given that there's no particular evidence for any belief) is so unfathomably against the principle of Occam's razor I can't begin to express it. "Purpose" is a human concept - only people do things because they "feel" like them. You're frustrated because you try to apply that to an unfeeling, deterministic universe. Existence is absolutely not random - things happen because of logical reasons, but not ultimate purposes.

  • @antonio610 Well, I don't agree, but I understand where you're coming from.

  • @SeraphimSwordmaster I never thought I would see SeraphimSwordmaster way out here in the boondocks of youtube... My amazement of this strange twist of fate aside, I agree with your earlier sentiment. On a side note, your voiceacting is stupendous!

  • @LordofDragns Ah, you're too kind, good sir. Thank you very much. : )

  • @SeraphimSwordmaster You are very much welcome. I love a good laugh in places like this, but the unfortunate flame wars that rage in the comments section often kill the experience for me. It was good to see some peaceful conversations for once. Cheers good sir!

  • @SeraphimSwordmaster Perhaps it'd be more appropriate if you'd label yourself a deist, rather.

  • @MegaTouchy Perhaps, but I'm not sure I agree with their "no miracles" stance, but given the length of time that this debate's gone on for already I think that might be a story for another time.

  • @SeraphimSwordmaster Not trying to take too much time out of you, seeing how you've already responded to several others before me, but I'm curious - if you do believe in miracles, however "not sure" you are, what would you point to as the cause of the miracles? Would it/they be the god(s) of deism?

  • @MegaTouchy Ah, it's cool man.

At the risk of sounding like the cheesiest idealist on the planet, I believe miracles can happen anywhere. For example, I read about a man whose legs were so shot to bits that amputation was on the cars, but he regained the use of both: something said to be a scientific impossibility. Sounds miraculous to me.

Now, whether that's because of the aid of a higher power or sheer determination, I can't say, but if it makes the impossible possible it counts for me.

  • @SeraphimSwordmaster Thanks for your time, and I can understand why it'd be difficult to point to point to either religion or naturalism as the explanation for what seems to be "miracles." But from what I've read, is that in the past, many peoples have ascribed many things to the supernatural, e.g. the Ancient Greeks, yet science's progress has repeatedly shown that there are equally/better naturalistic explanations. What may seem to us as miracles today may just be commonsense in the future.

  • @MegaTouchy Maybe so. That's what makes discovering how things work exciting.

  • @MegaTouchy I think the more important question is dose it really make a difference. does the fact that it rains because of the water cycle really mean that there is no God? what fasciates me is that God can't make a world that runs on rules. I think what I'm really trying to say is why is science a proff that God doesn't exist?

  • @Sentinal1140 Is "science a proff that God doesn't exist?" On the contrary, some even say that nature's wonders, like the water cycle, are evidence of an intelligent designer, and that designer's effort in putting us here must mean it's a personal god, i.e. the Judeo-Christian God. The problem is that Christianity employs a god of the gaps fallacy to seemingly cooperate with science, when Christianity can't provide any real sufficient evidence to support its dogma.

  • @Sentinal1140 I don't think I got to the point with my previous comment. Basically, science offers itself as a well-established epistemological tool that serves to identify what's probably true, based on theories etc. However, being a tool to study nature exclusively, it's difficult to say that science is a proof that God doesn't exist, since He lies in the supernatural. So, the question that God's existence is disproved by science is thrown out the window to begin with.

  • I don't think any of you completely understand, Religion is a Roll of the Dice, It's NEVER OKAY to Kill people in the Name of God. Vengeance Belongs EXCLUSIVELY TO THE LORD. But the real truth about Religion, is that it doesn't matter what you have faith in, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE FAITH IN SOMETHING...Nobody Really knows, the Planets could be a Sub-Atomic Particle in an even Bigger world & we could be a part of a Neuron which is part of an Atom & could make up something like a brush...

  • Take a close look at The Simpson's version of God. He is the only character to have five fingers on each hand.

  • @VinnDiddy Yeah Amy's Dad Leo has 5 fingers for one shot in ITWGY, but in the commentary they say that they did it on purpose, making fun at the fact they only have 4 fingers.

  • In the episode bender becomes god to some tiny dudes, and tells his people to do as he bids (like in the christian bible god sends his commandments down) but then they start getting into trouble, so Bender starts trying to help them on purpose, only making things worse and adventually killing the dudes living on him.

The God in this episode (the galaxy itself) tells bender that to do the job properly, it has to be done subtley, and this quote comes into play

  • theres a robot god too

  • This is quite possibly my favorite episode from the show.

  • I like how futurama is neutral on religion.

VS family guys very anti-religious stance

  • that would be becuase mike mcfarland is an athiest.

  • @RetardedAnime Just because you have one religious stance or another, doesn't mean it has to come though in your show/movie/etc.

  • yes well thats true, i wouldn't know what he's thinking becuase im not him.

  • @spigotsandcogs Very true I honestly hate reigion and I'm creating a story with god the devil death ect. even the garden of eden honestly religion sounds like the ramblings of a madman but it's good story material...

  • @spigotsandcogs South Park is also pretty neutral, they've made fun of both religon and atheism.

  • @BlissInTheAbyss Trey Parker and Matt stone are Athiest or Agnostic I forgot which.

  • @BlissInTheAbyss and Scientology... who knows where that falls ....

  • @BlissInTheAbyss I wouldn't consider making fun of both sides neutral, just offensive to all parties :3

  • @BlissInTheAbyss Matt and Trey and "theists" in the non-traditional sense.

  • @spigotsandcogs This particular concept is what is called: Pantheism. D:

  • @spigotsandcogs I know; they did a whole episode devoted to the idea that evolution and god can both be right. That's about as neutral as you get on the subject.

  • @spigotsandcogs

    like this perhaps?

    /watch?v=ussCHoQttyQ

but srsly, the 2000 year old story of the magic man in the sky that rose from the dead that you can only communicate one way with via telepathy and provides no verifiable proof of his existance yet controls every aspect of everyones life and knows everything about everyone and youll burn forever in hell unless you unquestioningly do what someone once wrote you must do?

yeah, i can see why you call their parody..... anti.

  • @TheDarwiniser

You're the reason why atheists would just shut the fuck up.

  • @TheDarwiniser Hey.

You know how the internet churns out shit that claims stuff like Character X and Character Y are totally secretly making doe eyes at each other?

In religion, that's called apocrypha. To use more familiar terminology, it's not canon.

Pretty much everything to do with hell save for three fairly unambiguous mentions in the Bible is apocrypha.

So all this nonsense about Christians thinking everyone's going to burn in hell?

    Bullshit.

People like you are why I'm an apatheist.

  • @WonSab

my arent you impressed with yourself hmmm?

although, youre just some person on the internet.

for all i know, you could be slathered in pigs blood, dusted with glitter, hanging in a choke sling whilst a spanish hemphrodite midget spanks you with a dead stingray as you smoke salvia and stare into a strobelight.

thusly, i'll rather swiftly stow your self important drivel about religion with the rest of the cultist garbage.

  • @TheDarwiniser Well that's an image i'll never get out of my head. Thank you for that.

  • Comment removed

  • ROFL

  • Isn't that the universe screen from spore?

    It's damn similiar

  • @zciryle

coz its the picture of the milkyway galaxy, which our solar system is in, and spore also uses it. you can even find earth in spore

  • @WasLilChrisnowbigish

how could we possibly have a picture of our galaxy aren't we kinda stuck inside it?

  • @AwsomeKevo

i dont know im no scientist. Its something to do with knowing where the stars are in our galaxy we can make a 3d map or something.

  • @AwsomeKevo - Can't you map your house from the inside?

  • @knzsaturos

Thats completely different you don't need a super high powered mega telescope to map your house and your mapping based on memory of what your house looks like.

  • @AwsomeKevo - That's not completely different. You can check out the relative positions of the stars in our galaxy, thus you can map everything you see. It's the very same this, just on quite a different scale.

  • I use this everytime I lecture someone.

  • "It's a Wonderful Life" anyone?

  • watch?v=pFCSgRULEkk

    "Logical evidences for Islam"

Why is there A Creator? Why is there a religion? Why Islam is the true religion?

  • @shncsr There isn't, insecure people, it's not.

  • amen

  • Anyone notice how much "God" resembles the spore login screen?

  • I don't get it. can someone explain it to me?

  • @TheXeeman Taken out of context it could be hard to understand, but basically it talks about how God is out there in the Universe and it just kinda forgot about us and that's why nothing miraculous happens. Bender ends up finding God and has this deep discussion about being God. I believe that Bender says, "I became God, then I met God!" Or something similar to it. I haven't seen that episode in forever so I might be wrong on several points.

  • @LaigledeMeaux I think it actually means that God hasn't forgotten us, and still helps us, but he does so in ways that are so subtle, we aren't sure if they're his doing or mere coincidence.

  • @Gyrogia

If god is real, and wants to make it appear that he doesn't exist, then good on him. But to then say "Welp, you don't believe. So now you get to burn in hell forever." Is absolutely asinine.

  • @biscuithammer00 Exactly

  • @biscuithammer00 It's also a dick move of the highest order. Why make a group of being cable of reason and intuitiveness. Just to punish them for being exactly as deigned.

  • How does a faceless being talk? :D

  • holy cow some of you guys are retarted! its just talking about a "merical" sence, or when good things happen, most people dont realize that it might be something else at work. and who cares if god is a galixy in this cartoon, you shouldent understand, no one should.

  • @TheNewGuy028

Then people shouldnt try to make it about their personal good, since they cant know ether.

  • Newbity is wrong

  • Jesussaurus Rex. nuff said.

  • @TheNewbity

its clear by the use of carbon dating that MOUNTAIN DEW IS THE BEST SODA EVER MADE!

  • If you watch the entire episode, it helps you further understand the significance of this quote

  • it seems that in futurama, god is the universe

  • @kyawmawthu Precisely. You've cracked it.

  • @kyawmawthu

No it's what you see as the first screen in Spore xD You can choose a planet and then play.

  • @kyawmawthu That's called pantheism, but in this show god is only one galaxy, not the entire universe

  • Does that mean that from now on I have to spread butter on my bread in a dark alley so the spread will be perfect? o.o

  • was it just me or did that look like spore?
