Instead of him having painted over green eyes, 4kids decided to re-edit and now Yugi looks the same... except for a thin pink glow of light. It's just a glowing pink line with pink reflecting in his eyes, but it makes Yugi look gay. -.-

@MrRsmaster31 I know it doesn't seem to make much sense, but since DBZ is fantasy violence, and they're trained fighters and the whole premise of the show is fighting, it's removed far enough from reality that it's okay to hit people because that's what those characters are trained to do. Where in YGO, they play card games, and fighting outside of the card games is a much more serious and realistic violence.

There were some edits in the dialogue, names were Americanized and the "Shadow Realm" concept was included, presumably to make it easier to understand (since kids were watching it) but the important details were retained. Please note that the Philippines is a predominantly Christian country. I mean, we're either Christian or Muslim. Non-sectarian people are rather hard to find.
@MsSnowprincess17 yes, there are 2 english dubs done for yugioh, one was by 4kids which was mostly in the America/Canada region, in south east asia we also got an english dub, but they kept the storyline in tact and used most, if not all, of the orginal japanese music and sound effects, it was by another company, but i cant for the love of god remember the name, foxkids maybe? idk
i grew up in singapore and that was the version we got, lucky us eh? :P

@totofan4ever Unless it happened so recently that I haven't heard yet, but not so recently that it would be on Anime News Network's front page. When and where did you hear this? FUNi used to release the DVDs, and there are always people clamoring that they WANT FUNi to get the rights, but 4kids isn't going to let go of them in the foreseeable future. YGO's a valuable franchise, and one of the few properties they have left.
@rexludorum Well they don't do new anime dubs anymore. I know they still own Yu-Gi-Oh! but they don't hold the rights do make an english dub on any new anime series anymore. They're just holding on to what little they have. I'm suprised 4kids is still on the air.

They now air Cubix, Sonic X, original Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragonball Z Kai, and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds. Of those, only Cubix is NOT anime. They plan to dub 5Ds to the end, and they have a website, Toonzaki devoted entirely to anime! They even post subbed, unedited 5Ds!

Great Video! I read the original manga and then realised how different it was to the anime I had watched as a kid. 4kids have ruined a great story with a lot of unnecessary censoring!
I agree about the original being better. I mean I don't mind the nudiness & violence being cut off, but there were important parts cut off. Like for an example when Yami was dueling Yugi after losing his soul. In the dub Yugi was mad at Yami and duels him acting brainwashed until the end. In the original Yugi forces Yami to battle him saying that he's always known he was evil at heart. At the end, Yami discovers the duel was a test. Yugi revealing of his awareness of Yami's dark heart was cut.
So what was the issue with Gurimo? Was Amelda still a guy in the original? Because looking, I could swear he was more of an underdeveloped female or maybe even hermi. And was Yami's face at 5:12 changed because it looked too haunting and scary for wittle ones?

@CrystalKabuto That usually gets considered part of season 5, so I didn't include it. There weren't any plot edits in that one. The worst edits were things cut for time. Such as Jounouchi's conversation about Mai. That one really ticks me off. But on the whole, not much cut. I don't really care about that story arc, anyway.
You know,it makes me wonder that...if 4kids can pull off censoring Yugioh which is 13+,I can't beleive what they could've done if they had censored other anime that was 13+ *shiver* I'm glad they haven't got any other (13+) anime to dub...yet...(hopefully...never!)
@crazyltfreak Hmm. That's a good question. I shouldn't say "didn't control people", it just had a heck of a lot less control than in the dub. The other Yugi's also not nearly as "good" in the original and in the manga. He's pretty dark in the first seven volumes of manga. It's Yugi's influence that makes him calm down. So it could be that personality that comes out again. But mostly I just blame it on the bad writing that season.
@crazyltfreak While the seal did brought out Yami's dark side, it didn't really made him evil in the original (in the original Yami was only talking about winning the duel, not about taking Rafael's soul).

@rexludorum ok so what if it has punching and card games in it dbz has it and they punch everyone alot! even tho that is about fighting is it about influencing violence on kids if it is then they shouldn't air dbz because that has more violence than yugioh so it doesn't make any sense

@MrRsmaster31 I know it doesn't seem to make much sense, but since DBZ is fantasy violence, and they're trained fighters and the whole premise of the show is fighting, it's removed far enough from reality that it's okay to hit people because that's what those characters are trained to do. Where in YGO, they play card games, and fighting outside of the card games is a much more serious and realistic violence.

@DimentioMOD are you an idiot? How ignorant are you to think that adults don't know about "shows from our country." Cartoons (AMERICAN cartoons) have been censored for years. Nobody is so jaded that they think all American shows are child friendly.
4kids is to blame here, not Christians, not parents. Yes, parent can censor shows if they complain enough, but 4Kids just overcensored everything.

no it isn't the religion, they are just THAT afraid of lawsuit. people sue over ANYTHING in the us. those who seek to ridicule others are not being christians, they are ebing dicks. and being a dick is not sanctioned in Christianity. It's people, not the religion. People USE religion for their own gains and twist it to their own methods, to suit their mood basically. If someone doesn't like something, they will say they don't in the name of god or whatever to "back up" their claim.

@akira357 I don't know about Americans but it's not about religion. YGO was aired in the Philippines uncut. There were some edits in the dialogue, names were Americanized and the "Shadow Realm" concept was included, presumably to make it easier to understand (since kids were watching it) but the important details were retained. Please note that the Philippines is a predominantly Christian country. I mean, we're either Christian or Muslim. Non-sectarian people are rather hard to find.

@MsSnowprincess17 yes, there are 2 english dubs done for yugioh, one was by 4kids which was mostly in the America/Canada region, in south east asia we also got an english dub, but they kept the storyline in tact and used most, if not all, of the orginal japanese music and sound effects, it was by another company, but i cant for the love of god remember the name, foxkids maybe? idk
i grew up in singapore and that was the version we got, lucky us eh? :P

@981407036x It's Voiceovers Unlimited. I've watched some episodes of that dub and it's pretty good considering they have few voice actors.
I was referring to our own local dub. Ours was done similarly to the Singaporean dub... except it's in Filipino.

That's a badly animated shirt...... I don't even like Anime and even I think they censor too much. Have any of those 4kids executives even seen a classic Disney movie? Cartoons, Japanese or English should be for all ages not just for little babies! Sigh.... who here is glad they lost dubbing rights? :D

@totofan4ever I'm not sure what you mean by "they lost dubbing rights". 4kids Entertainment still owns Yu-Gi-Oh!, and is still dubbing 5Ds. Heck, they're releasing Bonds Beyond Time, the 3D movie at the end of February in theaters. (limited 4-day showings, but still!)

@totofan4ever Unless it happened so recently that I haven't heard yet, but not so recently that it would be on Anime News Network's front page. When and where did you hear this? FUNi used to release the DVDs, and there are always people clamoring that they WANT FUNi to get the rights, but 4kids isn't going to let go of them in the foreseeable future. YGO's a valuable franchise, and one of the few properties they have left.

@rexludorum Well they don't do new anime dubs anymore. I know they still own Yu-Gi-Oh! but they don't hold the rights do make an english dub on any new anime series anymore. They're just holding on to what little they have. I'm suprised 4kids is still on the air.

@totofan4ever Ah, I understand now. You're right, they were going in that direction, but this current TV season, they completely changed their approach. They now air Cubix, Sonic X, original Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragonball Z Kai, and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds. Of those, only Cubix is NOT anime. They plan to dub 5Ds to the end, and they have a website, Toonzaki devoted entirely to anime! They even post subbed, unedited 5Ds!

I agree about the original being better. I mean I don't mind the nudiness & violence being cut off, but there were important parts cut off. Like for an example when Yami was dueling Yugi after losing his soul. In the dub Yugi was mad at Yami and duels him acting brainwashed until the end. In the original Yugi forces Yami to battle him saying that he's always known he was evil at heart. At the end, Yami discovers the duel was a test. Yugi revealing of his awareness of Yami's dark heart was cut.

@CrystalKabuto That usually gets considered part of season 5, so I didn't include it. There weren't any plot edits in that one. The worst edits were things cut for time. Such as Jounouchi's conversation about Mai. That one really ticks me off. But on the whole, not much cut. I don't really care about that story arc, anyway.

@crazyltfreak Hmm. That's a good question. I shouldn't say "didn't control people", it just had a heck of a lot less control than in the dub. The other Yugi's also not nearly as "good" in the original and in the manga. He's pretty dark in the first seven volumes of manga. It's Yugi's influence that makes him calm down. So it could be that personality that comes out again. But mostly I just blame it on the bad writing that season.

@crazyltfreak While the seal did brought out Yami's dark side, it didn't really made him evil in the original (in the original Yami was only talking about winning the duel, not about taking Rafael's soul).
