I've been doing death metal vox for maybe two years now, and I sing in a band, but I also learned the fry technique a while ago, and I can do it extremely loudly. My fry sounds a bit like Trivium, not like his weak noise.

I'm not into gutturals or anything, but I love how Dani Filth's voice used to sound in the late 90's/early 2000's. I'll never figure out how he achieved those vocals. I watched it a few times and sang with the cd that came with it, but I ended up giving it away. Like I said, I don't sing at all anymore. I wish more kids would try to sing like how Dani Filth used to or at least try to some up with their own sound. Half the metalcore vocalists I hear these days sound the exact same.

Also: surely you can apply diaphragm support with both vocal fry and false chord? I am a false chord vocalist myself, struggling to learn vocal frys. When doing those I find that I am so far only able to do highs, and they require as much diaphragm use but far less air then false chords.

Volume depends on the type of screaming you are doing. as you can see in this video some of the first yells are quite loud, and the ones that melissa mainly does in this video aren't very harsh or loud. then when changing to the "death metal" part of the instruction she refers to it as the 3rd scream. that's because there is no single kind of scream that does everything, if you have seen the zen of screaming 2 you will know this. vocal fry is fairly low volume, death and power fry fairly loud.
Not really, it's alot more than just making the grudge noise... That's just how people teach fry screaming, like the way people teach false chord by saying "bark like a dog"... But false chord is still alot more than just barking like a dog...
I do false chord screaming and found it alot easier to learn than fry screaming.
Fry screaming is definately alot quieter than false chord screaming, I can do both types of scream. Personally prefer false chord just cause I think it sounds better... But fry even though it is quiet is still an effective way of screaming, it has an overtone that kinda of hangs over the music when your playing with a band. So yeah it is supposed to be quiet, but it will get louder as you get better at it, to some extent.

Satan is both a (completely misunderstood by Xtians) biblical entity as well as a symbol of rebellion against the culture-destroying influence of that, other mainstream religions, and modern society in general. So I guess the best way to find out if a band 'worships Satan' or is intellectually 'Satanic' would be, I don't know, to ask them?
Only in recent times, in a relatively uneducated populace like 19th cent US, did Satan=Lucifer=Devil come about. Xtianity is nothing but Satanism for fools.

Volume depends on the type of screaming you are doing. as you can see in this video some of the first yells are quite loud, and the ones that melissa mainly does in this video aren't very harsh or loud. then when changing to the "death metal" part of the instruction she refers to it as the 3rd scream. that's because there is no single kind of scream that does everything, if you have seen the zen of screaming 2 you will know this. vocal fry is fairly low volume, death and power fry fairly loud.

this has been my biggest confusion... obviously with using a mic it will be loud.. volume control yada yada yada
but without is it SUPPOSED to sound quiet?... i tend to try yelling or being as loud as possible and its pretty bad screaming
because if its meant to be quiet (until youre infront of a mic) then i guess im on the right track here... lol

fry screaming is the cheapest way to screaming. its like making the sound the kid from the grudge makes, and turning the mic all the way up.
if you wanna learn to scream, learn false chord.

Not really, it's alot more than just making the grudge noise... That's just how people teach fry screaming, like the way people teach false chord by saying "bark like a dog"... But false chord is still alot more than just barking like a dog...
I do false chord screaming and found it alot easier to learn than fry screaming.

Fry screaming is definately alot quieter than false chord screaming, I can do both types of scream. Personally prefer false chord just cause I think it sounds better... But fry even though it is quiet is still an effective way of screaming, it has an overtone that kinda of hangs over the music when your playing with a band. So yeah it is supposed to be quiet, but it will get louder as you get better at it, to some extent.

Ah,that's quite true,but the entire Satan image has become quite iconic in death metal,it is actually larger in black metal,although even not all black metal is about satan,so I can see where you are coming from.

@MikeTheMisanthrope well that can be true with some bands but its no secret that there are bands out there that really believe and worship satan knowingly and conciously if u know what i mean, then again people are ignorant that there are also christian bands out there and that this music cant be used to praise God, its the lyrics not the music that would make a song christian or non-christian.
