I agree, oil is not a finite resource, it continually being made by the earth. Its insanity to believe oil was created by plant and animal matter.

Theres so much oil out there, companies are trying to limit (horde) production, to keep the price up.

Should we burn oil? No, but there's more oil in the earth than we can handle, you've been brainwashed to believe otherwise.

Are you kidding me? Did you not just hear the interview? Crude oil as we know it today, took MILLIONS of YEARS to create. I don't know about you, but I don't think I will be around the next few million years to see the earth "replenish" the oil supply once it's gone. Due to the limit of this blog, there is a great book called "Beyond Oil" that you definitely need to become familiar with.

Oil taking 100mil to make? You need to do your research. Oil is not a fossil fuel. Scientist proved it again this year. Wells that had dried up in the early 90's are full again and are being repumped. Hm...18 yrs is not 100 million years. Yes biodiesel is amazing and cheap to make. but please get your facts straight.

Why are biodiesel producers the enemy? Is there a difference between biodiesel producers using waste vegie oil vs. algae vs. soy produced for feed crops? What's the whole picture?

Biodiesel producers deforestate like crazy and advocate the use of food as fuel. Recent doubling of food price was caused by the biodiesel craze. Plus converting stuff into diesel produces plenty of waste chemicals that have to be disposed of somehow.

The World uses 67 million Barrels of Oil a day and the U.S. about 25% of that. There is 47 gallons of oil in a Baqrrel and with proper technology you can yield 38 gallons of Gasoline from 47 gallons of oil.

Just the U.S. Uses 7 billion Gallons of Gasoline a day

Turning all grain crops grow in the U.S. for the WHOLE YEAR can sustain that 7 billion gallon need for 1 day and a half. converting every availible plant (trees grass,etc) in 50 states to biodesiel will last maybe 3 days

I still think that alcohol is a better fuel. The air going into a alcohol running vehicle (even jet airplanes) - the air going in is more dirty than whats comming out! thats why our military jets switch to alcohol when a missile is going toward it! (missiles use a smog tester to target an aircraft engine)

The volatile prices of oil (petroleum) now ARE directly affecting food prices--because we depend on it for transportation, processing, refrigeration of foods from such long distances. The current increased use of corn for ethanol in the U.S. is causing corn food prices to go up.

It's a pity here in Australia the government seems downright against bio-diesel. As Russ mentioned, stability is important for business and due to changes in government direction plus rules & regulations it's made investment risky. The government also decided to help the emerging bio-diesel industry by imposing a .38c/L fuel-excise - even if you home-brew it! Compare this to LPG (liquified petroleum gas) which enjoyed a 20 year excise-free existence for a chance to get into the market.

interesting stuff. However, what exactly is "glycerin" and how do you dispose of it. If this world was run on Bio-Diesel, wouldn't the "bad glycerin" create pollution? Where do you dispose of that black sludge on the top of the usable fuel? Could we just dump it in the Ocean? If not, than I don't think Bio-Diesel is as good as it sounds.

From a European perspective It seems to me that the US

is so in thrall to multi-nationals and their pseudo religion of consumer-capitalism ,that any serious paradigm shift will only happen after a Soviet union style economic collapse,around about the late 2020's-early 30's;As the USSR lost the cold war, the US will lose the oil war,although it will be pyrrhic

I feel like many US folks are in denial even when faced with rising prices, I have doubts if even a crisis can permanently change basic attitudes. I have a friend in the Northeast who whines about rising gas prices, yet when I tell him to plan his trips, he still goes out on his car for a quart of ice cream... instant gratification he says. And he tells me, why would he change his habits when the government wastes trillions on the Iraq war. I don't know what to say.

By not subsidizing the cost of liquid fuel and let the price rise to reach a more realistic market value.

Frankly, rather than voluntarily changing lifestyles, the best thing that citizens can do is pressure congress to change laws.

The lesson from the late 1970's after the oil embargo is that when vehicle fuel efficiency was increased, people drove more--thus using as much or more than they had. So that can't be the whole answer.

Well obviously prices of the resource NEED to rise to cause that to happen.

So subsidizing the price of fuel by promoting an increase in liquid fuel supplies is counter productive when tied with fuel efficiency.
